Lyrics for Alligator as interpreted by flyingxpony

Alligator Lyrics
sensitive
it's true,
alligator tears cried over you
over you, over you
over you, over you

run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
die without

relentless,
yes, it's true
my motor mouth
runs over you
over you, over you
over you, over you

run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
die without

over you, over you
over you, over you
over you, over you
over you, over you

run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
die without

no hissy fits, mind my manners
won't make a scene
oh, over you

over you, over you
over you
over you, over you

run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
die without

rattled, yes, it's true
alligator tears spilled over you

run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
die without
run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
die without

over you, over you
over you
over you, over you
over you, over you
over you
over you, over you
over you
over you, over you
over you, over you

I apologize that these aren't perfected yet, I'm just going from the Rifflandia concert recordings on YouTube, but I think they're close at least! Any input at all is very much appreciated as I'm not 100% on any of the lyrics yet, but we can work on them until the CD comes out =)

You got them pretty close. My corrections:

sensitive
it's true
alligator tears cried over you
over you, over you
over you, over you

Run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
I'd die without

relentless
yes, it's true
my motor mouth
it runs over you
over you, over you
over you, over you

run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
I'd die without

over you, over you
over you, over you
over you, over you
over you, over you

run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
I'd die without

no hissy fits, mind my manners
I won't make a scene

oh, oh you
over you, over you
over you
over you, over you

run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
I'd die without

rotten? yes, it's true
alligator tears spilled over you

run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
I'd die without you
run around on me
I'd sooner die without
run around on me
I'd die without

oh!
over you, over you
oh you
over you, over you
over you, over you
over you, over you
oh you
over you, over you
oh you
over you, over you

I'm not sure about all the over you parts. I'm pretty sure most of the time she's saying over you, because in the clip of Tegan singing from it on Jordansilver.com she says it as "over you". But I think in some particular parts she's definitely saying "Oh you." I changed "cry" to "cried" and "spill" to "spilled". Minor corrections, but important just the same. Oh, and replaced "mind over mouth" with "my motor mouth".
The last part, where you put "wild", I've got no clue. It sounds like "rotten" to me, but that doesn't exactly seem right.
I've listened to this song a thousand times, and this is what I've gotten from it. Kudos on getting the "hissy fits, mind my manners" part, that one has been stumping me for days. Thanks for putting these lyrics up here! Can't wait for Sainthood to drop so we can all be sure!

I don't think it's "over you, oh you". I'm pretty sure it's "over you, over you". Tegan sings the chorus in this video, and you can clearly tell:

Do you guys think it could be "rattled" and not "rotten"??

onto the meaning..

it's about "making a scene" and being over-emotional and dramatic in your relationship. she's crying fake tears (alligator tears) basically for attention and to make the other person feel guilty, even though she may not really want to do that. she talks about her "motor mouth" running over the other person, in that she's hurting her with her words. she's being obsessive and clinging to the other person as tightly as she can. she's worried that this other person might "run around on" her (maybe she already has?), and saying that she'd die without her.
she's struggling against having these reactions (in the "no hissy fits" line), but she feels out of control and overrun by her feelings.

I can definitely relate to this, I'm crazy in relationships haha

i understand the point you're making flyingpony, and i agree with a lot of these ideas... but does this strike anyone as being, at least in terms of lyrical interpretation, not necessarily something sara would generally write about or even personally feel? (not to say it definitely has to be about her per se)

also, it makes me think about the kind of relationship where you're overly sensitive, or afraid of losing someone, or overwhelmed by emotions, so you do all of these things to try to maintain a sense of control... but what does this say about the person who is doing these kinds of things? are these behaviors and feelings more about the relationship or the other person in the relationship, or about the person who's experiencing them? and what about the kind of relationship where, instead of crying alligator tears, you cry real tears?

Just wondering, maybe it's a translation thing, but in England we call them 'crocodile tears', is it the same thing, like fake little tears?

Are you sure its not about someone who's been cheated on?? i always thought alligator tears, were big tears... "Alligator tears cried over you" cried big tears due to the emotions of finding out
"run around on me sooner die without" cheat on me, you can die without me. "my motor mouth runs over you, over you over you" I've realized what you've done, I've got my opinions, and now I'm over you.
"no hissy fits, mind my manners won't make a scene" "oh, over you over you, over you" I won't make a scene or say anything, i'll just get over you "rattled, yes, it's true alligator tears spilled over you"
yes its true that i'm heartbroken, and i cried about it.

but now i no longer care and i'm over you.

I could be completely wrong but thats what i thought the first time i heard it

I've listened to this song a million times [literally] since I purchased the album on the 27th. So far, to me it's always been about cheating. I get the feeling that Sara is talking about a relationship where she was cheated on. She says basically she'd rather "die without" that person than be cheated on, and if the person cheats on her, they will "die without her". So to speak. The alligator tears are probably referring to tears she cried over the person, and although they might have been real in the moment, she looks back on them as fake now. Lastly, the "motor mouth" part means that basically she tells everyone how that person cheated on her; it is her form of revenge.

right after she sings, "my motor mouth runs over you"... what is it that she's saying? does she say, "who?"

I saw them in New York last night, and there are DEFINITELY points where Sara looks like she might be saying "Oh you." But it's so difficult to tell if it's on accident or not.

then again, they also mess up/change lyrics a lot on new songs in show.
