Lyrics for Careful as interpreted by thoseguiltyeyes

Careful Lyrics
I settle down
A twisted-up frown
Disguised as a smile
Well, you would have never known
I had it all, but not what I wanted
'Cause hope for me was a place uncharted
And overgrown

You make your way in
I resist you just like this
You can't tell me to feel
The truth never set me free
So I did it myself

You can't be too careful anymore
When all that is waiting for you
Won't come any closer
You've got to reach a little more

Open your eyes
Like I open mine
It's only the real world
Life you will never know
Shifting your weight to throw off the pain
Well, you can ignore it
But only for so long

You look like I did
You resist me just like this
You can't tell me to heal
And it hurts remembering
How it felt to shut down

Can't be too careful anymore
When all that is waiting for you
Won't come any closer
You've got to reach a little more

The truth never set me free
The truth never set me free
The truth never set me free
So I'll do it myself

You can't be too careful anymore
When all that is waiting for you
Won't come any closer
You've got to reach out

Can't be too careful anymore
When all that is waiting for you
You won't come any closer
You've got to reach out more

I think it's "Shifting your weight to throw off the pain," not "shifting your way."

I'm agree with phantommow221, I think it means that you have to reach for what you want, and don't just wait for it to come to you, cuz' you can make it by yourself... and don't be afraid of what's going to happen, just go for it!. BTW! amazing song! amazing album.

I think it means that you have to reach for what you want, it won't just come to you. You have to work for it and try. And when she says, "You can't be too careful anymore," she means like you have to take some risks. Don't worry so much, but do what you need to do to meet your goals. Risk it all. This song is amazing. :] I love Paramore.<333

i think this is a really complex song with many different meanings kinda bunched up together. i think when you get down to it, it is about life and you can get hurt no matter what but that is just price you have to pay in order to get what you want out of life. pain is a part of life and we have to except it :)

I don't know if it's really either. I think it's more about life in general, how it's not going to be easy. Hayley's thoughts on the song were mostly about breaking out of the bubbles that we put ourselves in. Giving ourselves the chance to break out of the molds that we put ourselves in so often.

We can't be afraid to dive into the unknown. When she says that "the truth never set me free, so I'll do it myself" I think she's meaning that we have to be in charge of our own fate, our own decisions. We can't just sit back and wait for things to happen.

You look like I did

How it felt to shut down

to me, it's about a controlling relationship. how someone can have so many great things in live, yet not be happy because this person is always there to bring them down somehow. you have to make an effort, come to the realization that you're in this type of relationship, and break away.

You can't tell me to heal
And it hurts remembering
How it felt to shut down

those are my favorite lines in the song because they express how sometimes you're forced to basically 'shut down' your emotions because you have no other choice. this person won't let you feel for yourself, and they've convinced you that whatever emotions you do have.. you're not entitled to them. it takes a very long time to try and shake problems like that, hence the line 'you can't tell me to heal'. its easy for a friend or family member, who don't know what you're going through, to say you'll be able to get better.. when in reality, it's one of the most difficult things one could ever have to do.

i'm not sure if this is exactly what hayley was talking about when writing this, but it's what it means to me at least.

"The truth never set me free, so I did it myself". I think this is a song about someone who was in a lot pain due to past experiences, and was "shut down", and was waiting for it to go away, but decided that she couldn't wait around anymore, she had to fix things herself.

Now she is preaching to everyone else, or maybe just a friend, and trying to get them to do the same. That's why she says "You look like I did, you resist me just like this: you can't tell to heal". This person is now in the same position she was.

ummm I really hope mightymouz is joking. but anyway, amazing song! I think its about how people try to control you and want you to be a certain way. and really, thats the easy way, you can be content just doing what people want. but if you really want to enjoy your life "you can't be too careful". you have to go get what you want.

ok so i am going to try to break this complicated song down a bit so here goes:

"I settle down
A twisted-up frown
Disguised as a smile
Well, you would have never known"

its like she has setteled into something where she feels she has to always disguise how she feels and no one would ever guess that she was hiding what she felt or the fact that she might not be really happy.

"I had it all, but not what I wanted
'Cause hope for me was a place uncharted
And overgrown"

she has everything she has ever wanted but she feels like its not enough any more, she wants to find hope but with all the difficultys she is going through she finds it impossible so hope.

"You make your way in
I resist you just like this
You can't tell me to feel
The truth never set me free
So I did it myself"

Ok so this took me a while but i think i got it. someone is forcing there way into her heart and they want her to feel something that she can't, and when the truth came out it did not free her form all her troubles so she had to take the actions to free herself.

"You can't be too careful anymore
When all that is waiting for you
Won't come any closer
You've got to reach a little more

you can never be to careful in the world, cause when you won't something you have to reach for it but it might mean getting hurt.

"Open your eyes
Like I open mine
It's only the real world
Life you will never know"

she is saying that you need to look around, this is reality and with reality you can never know what is going to happen.

"Shifting your weight to throw off the pain
Well, you can ignore it
But only for so long"

you can only push away pain for so long, but the fact is that sooner or latter you will have to deal with it.

"You look like I did
You resist me just like this
You can't tell me to heal
And it hurts remembering
How it felt to shut down"

she is saying to maybe even the same person as before that they are doing what she had done, she had resisted a relationship. that person is saying that she needs to get over all this and move on but she can't just for get everything it hurts so much because she is constantly reminded of when she crashed and burned and then had to close her self out to everyone.

the rest of the song is just repeats but i covered the most important parts. i think this song was meant for one or maybe a group of people. i think it could be aimed at the troubles of the band but i really don't know. i think the best thing about this song is that it is so mystical as in it has so many meanings and we will never know every aspect of the song be cause it is written paramore style, with lots of symbolism. i think it is just an all around amazing song and PLEASE CORRECT ANYTHING THAT YOU THINK IS WRONG I WANT TO KNOW WHAT EVERYONE ELSE THINKS ABOUT MY INTERPRETATION!!!!!!

Okay, so, THIS is the song off BNE. I found a song by Paramore, same name, and it is them, but it's a completely different song and I've tried looking for it everywhere to see what its really called, etc., and it's like it doesn't exist. It's tripping me out! I wanna know wtf I found, lol. Did this happen to anyone else?
