Laid out
Puking in the back of a fancy bar
You and your friends in the front booth
Laughing at my sweet naivety
And its awkward gravity
Three years
Saw the decimation of the world in you
Messiah complex
Led a fickle flu to see its antidote and end in you
But now I'm gonna leave you

Eloise, Eloise
You never meant the much to me
Baby please, let go my Eloise
Let it bleed, let it freeze and fall apart in front of me
My Eloise
You took the world from me

So beautiful, the ugliness within you
Last of three, baby of the family
Spoiled to bits and rotten to the shining core of you
And that with power I've seen corrupt, the leaders of a nation
Stricken with the sickly immitation
Of a love the lord would never stitch
You've got my cake
It's time to dine on the rich

Eloise, Eloise
You never meant that much to me
Baby please, let go my Eloise
Let it bleed, let it freeze and fall apart in front of me
My Eloise
You took the world from me

(So now I feel like a child again)
Bandaid
Just a bloody bandaid
That's all I ever really was to you Eloise
(So now I feel like a child again)
Just a soldier with a syndrome
And dreams of children
Screams you molded, you shaped
Like a god who loathed to create
(So now I feel like a child again)
Bandaids
Two infected bandaids
That's all we were to each other Eloise
(So now I feel like a child again)
Just a couple of stupid kids
Throwing a ball back and forth
Just to see who drops it first
(Child again)
Well think fast, killer

Eloise, Eloise
You never meant that much to me
Baby please, let go my Eloise
Let it bleed, let it freeze and fall apart in front of me
My Eloise
You took the world from me
You took the world from me
You took the world from me
You took the world from me
You took the world from me

General Comment:I always thought the song could have two meanings. One being that he was in a relationship with this girl, but it was bringing him down. The relationship between them was rotten, and no good for both of them. He was trying to get over her, yet trying to save this girl who had been broken beyond repair.

The second meaning could be about an addiction. Getting over one, whether it be. A giant metaphor for all of the addictions and how its ruins one's life.

General Comment:Man, i never fail to relate to these songs. i think this is a comment on dysfunctional relationships as a whole. I kind of get two people, sick in there own way, doing nothing but destroying eachother further. They stayed together so long because when you love someone, you do. I think that the male in the relationship ( or atleast when max sings it) wanted to help or save eloise. But he in turn was just someone thing she used to help herself possible get over another issue. That in itself is not a good relationship to be in. I think shes like the girl in less cute, and he is the guy in skinny mean man. But now after all that, the relationship ultimately fails, be he isnt what she wants, she just does want to be alone and so she abuses that. He in turn wont leave the relationship at first and because of it he just sinks into a further fragile state. I think at some point we are all both sides of this relationship. I think this song though is the point where you cant take anyone, and you call it a day. And even though your in pain you begin to heal. and you can start moving on.

Thats what i got anyway, im probably just seeing that though because being in a relationship like that now, i relate everything to it.

General Comment:My first thought was also that it was a modern reference to the Alexander Pope poem Eloisa to Abelard and the story behind it.

General Comment:Does anyone else think this could have something to do with the story of Abelard and Eloise?

General Comment:The way it comes across to me is, this chick thinks that she could fix him or save him, but she's sick in that way. She has a huge ego and is a bitch. They're sort of toxic for each other. She seemed to start their relationship from pity, but then started to care and now he's leaving her. Hehehe.

General Comment:Thank you ohtess for posting that, because I couldn't help but laugh at whoever thought this song was about drugs or recovery or anything other than getting over a break up and moving the fuck on from something that shouldn't have been anything to begin with. Though crimsonsky I don't discredit your explanation at the bottom of your post, but it is most definitely about getting over an ex, and it really is empowering as I'm going through a similar situation.

General Comment:"This is a song I wrote at the tail-end of the relationship that was chronicled on our last record. This is the only song on this record that really references that time as the relationship was over and I began writing for this record. I was going through the stage with this person where you're trying to be cordial and be friends, but it's too weird and you both eventually just have to cut it off--or one person has to. In this particular instance, this relationship was really unhealthy and had a really negative effect on me and my self-worth. Cutting off this relationship was a spiritual act of self-empowerment. When you listen to In Defense Of The Genre, you can tell that there was more to it than just being someone's fault. It had to do with me placing myself in a situation because I felt bad about myself or felt bad about things in society. I wanted to solve the world's problems by trying to help this one person and help them overcome certain things that they just never would. The cool thing about "Eloise" is that it's not just a break-up song, but a getting-over-a-girl song. It talks a lot about why we even get into these types of relationships and why letting go of them is such a good idea in terms of the biggest scope of spirituality and society. This is kind of a running theme on the record. While most songs on the record can be explained simply, there's more to each song, and they talk about the grander issues in life. This was definitely my closure song as well as my new-beginning song. Because there has to be closure to the relationship before there can be a new beginning with someone else."
