    Song Meaning:This song is about becoming a Master Mason. I listened to this song at least a thousand times, and didn't get it until I myself became a Master Mason. It is word for word symbolic and chronological simultaneously. That's all I can tell you. I suppose then that Jerry must be a MM, otherwise he wouldn't know the secrets. Congratulations!     General Comment:I agree definitely that this song is about the pain and anguish associated with moving on and creating new music under the moniker Alice in Chains with a different singer. Listening to the song, you can really feel how much all of the guys are hurting. When the lyrics say "Like just before we die..." I believe is a way of saying that the band died. Obviously, they are back-but EVEN the guys felt at first that they were dead musically-at least in my opinion.

    I tink it means they want to continue on their carereer, just like before Layne died.

    General Comment:Yes, it's hope, it makes sense :))

    Moving on after Layne is gone, yet there's something left inside. When you read the lyrics on this album it' clearly understood how important person Layne was in Jerry's life.

    With this song Jerry shows how brilliant singer he really is and that he's got an amazing and powerful voice.
    When he sings I want to feeeeeel aaaaaalive.....comes from the depth of his being and carries all the pain....wow! This song gives me shivers down my spine.

    My Opinion:look at rotten apple. its recreated and its a rebirth of the band as a whole. of course, though the new album is insanely wonderful, layne is a great part of alice in chains. they wish to preserve his inspirations, still, fuck those who arent able to understand the band without layne, he has passed, remembered, loved, and recreated

    General Comment:Love how the album begins with this song. Stating that their friend is gone and we as a band have to move on without him. Listening to Jerry sing this song you can tell that he is hurt and disappointed that Layne is dead and not able to be with them as a band anymore. Makes me sad when i listen to this song.
