Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it's highest peek
In the middle of the day
Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst
Let me lay beside you, darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything, everything ends
A window
An opened tomb
The sun crawls
Across your bedroom
A halo
A waiting room
Your last breaths
Moving through you
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything, everything
Everything, everything, everything ends
Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it's highest peek
In the middle of the day
Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand
That everything, everything ends
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it's highest peek
In the middle of the day
Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst
Let me lay beside you, darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything, everything ends
A window
An opened tomb
The sun crawls
Across your bedroom
A halo
A waiting room
Your last breaths
Moving through you
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything, everything
Everything, everything, everything ends
Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it's highest peek
In the middle of the day
Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand
That everything, everything ends

Let me give my lvoe to you, let me take your hand,
but as we walk in the dimming light, well, Darling, understand
That everything ends."
it begins with the sun at its peak, and he gives his love to her. But then they are walking in 'dimming light', symbolizing that just like the day, their love, (and ultimately life) will eventually end.
"Meet me on your best behavior, meet me at your worst
for there will be no stone unturned or bubble left to burst
let me give my love to you, let me be your man
and let out bodies intertwine, but always understand."
He's saying he will take her at her best and worst, and give everything into their relationship to make it last as long as possible, but it doesn't change the fact that it's going to end, and if not by a break up, then by death.
Anyway, this song reminds me a lot of "I Will Follow You Into the Dark", cause I feel the storyline is similar. We can be together and be in love, but eventually it's all gonna end. I wouldn't say it's DCFC's best, but I really like the song, nonetheless.
Look up Taijitu and understand how the equinoxes relate given the constantly opposed, intertwined yin and yang. And understand this in the context of relationships and why he would ask to be approached at the equinox. Keeping in mind that every relationship, in every definition of the word, ends.
This is a really good song, and I think its concept fits the story in a very interesting way.
So we try to meet halfway, and love each other. My interpretation of the "dimming light" and the "everything ends" lyrics is not so much a closure of the connection, but that only death (see DCFC's "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" for similar themes and imagery) can sever love's bonds.
But it could be about a lot of other stuff, too.
I took the meeting at the equinox to mean that (as several commenters said), the speaker knows the relationship won't last for whatever reason. He (or she, I suppose) is saying that right now everything is great, the days are long (like the equinox) and we're at our peak. But no matter how much we want it to last forever, the days will only get shorter, the outlook bleaker, and ultimately the break-up will come. The speaker is just preparing his or her mate for that scenario so it will be a little less painful in the end.
Now why he thinks the relationship is doomed of course up to interpretation. Maybe it's because he knows he won't be able to committ (like half of DCFC songs are about), or maybe it's something else. But it's obvious that the speaker is more prepared for the end than the person he/she is speaking to.
That's all I got - thanks for reading!
The beginning imagery of the "sun at its highest peak" alludes to life and a relationship being at its mid-point, perhaps even it's high-point. He wants to offer himself to the other, and is authentic in that. But he is aware, and wants the other to be also aware, that no matter how great their love is, it is subject to the law of impermanence. Nothing is forever. The description of "dimming light" helps accomplish this, the sunset of a relationship and life itself.
The best behavior/worst behavior imagery seems to indicate that Gibbard is prepared in this relationship to pour himself in every way. There will be "no bubble left to burst." He is offering himself to the other, fully, not half-heartedly. Still, though, the nature of things is such that even love this deep must end.
The bridge lyrics with "open tomb" and "your last breath moving through you" is clearly alluding to the ultimate realization of personal impermanence, death. He wants the other to realize that death is unavoidable.
The sound of the music seems to so aptly capture the main theme expressed in the lyrics: that love can be fully realized in spite of the errie fact that nothing, no matter how beautiful or important, is forever.
This song reminds me most of the chapter when Edward is in Volterra and Bella is racing through the city to find him before he unveils himself as a vampire. Edward is going to walk into the sunlight at noon, when the "sun is perched at its highest peak in the middle of the day," and Bella has to stop him before "everything ends"...meaning everyone will find out he's a vampire and the Volturi will kill him.
