Lyrics for Meet Me on the Equinox as interpreted by sciolism

Meet Me on the Equinox Lyrics
Meet me on the equinox
Meet me halfway
The sun is perched at its highest peak
In the middle of the day

Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand

That everything
Everything ends
That everything
Everything ends

Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst
Let me lay beside you darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand

That everything
Everything ends
That everything
Everything ends
That everything
Everything
Everything ends

A window
An open tomb
The sun crawls across your bedroom
A halo
A waning moon
Your last breath moving through you

As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything, everything, everything, everything, everything ends

Meet me on the equinox
Meet me halfway
The sun is perched at its highest peak
In the middle of the day

And let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand
That everything
Everything ends

As a fan of DCFC, I honestly don't think it's one of their best songs.
I still really like it, but lyrically it's deffinatly not what I was expecting.
As a fan of the twilight series, though I think it's perfect for the movie.

In a interview Ben Gibbard actually says that this song is based more on his personal experiences than on the content of New Moon. I think the lyrics still fit the mood of the movie though. It sounds to me like this song is basically someone saying I love you, but this will never last. It reminds me of when Edward says " Of course I will always love you... in a way." when he's leaving Bella. And New Moon is basically about the ultimate break up.

So alltogether I think this is a great song for the New Moon soundtrack, and another great DCFC song :)

The music is really good in this one. Like mentioned previously, the lyrics aren't as strong as their other songs, but the music makes up for that lacking.

I agree with satellitemind. I too have been a DCFC fan as well as a Twilight fan. And I do think this song will fit in perfectly. I think it has a bittersweet sound.

Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst
Let me lay beside you darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand
That everything ends.

I think this is the guy (I guess in this case, Edward...since it's for the movie) saying he's ready for whatever reaction Bella has when he leaves. He will understand if she's angry or not, grief stricken or not...but to make no mistake, his mind is made up that he's leaving forever. "For there will be no stone unturned and no bubble left to burst" really conveys the guy will leave and make sure he will not leave room for her hope of his return/reuniting.As in the book...Edward thought of everything. He secretly took all momentos of pics, the song he made for her...everything. He didnt want her to have anything to cling to. He hoped it would make her forget him. I think the "meet me on the equinox...meet me half way" kinda says to me that he's begging her to agree that it's best that it ends. He wants her to see the wisdom of it.

But that's my take on the lyrics. ALSO...is it me or does the guitar rythym seem similiar to Paramore's Decode guitar melody? For continuity...I kinda like that. Vastly different yet a vague common thread.

I don't care at all for the whole twilight thing, so I can't really relate the lyrics to that, but I reckon that UNsweetT has the meaning pretty spot on.

I was sooo excited to find out Death Cab was doing the single for New Moon - two of my favorite worlds finally colliding. I must say, however, that I'm not as impressed with this song as I thought I would be. Like everyone else has said, it really doesn't compare to past DCFC songs lyrically. The chorus is really the only part of the song that I like, which is most likely the part that's going to be used in the movie, so it all works out I suppose. I think Ben had the chance to really bring it with this song and he sort of just made a nice song with a nice melody and nothing about it is extremely interesting or awesome.

i wonder if the lyric is really "open tomb"? i thought it was open door...and it would kind of make sense because thats what their ep was called.

Meet me on the equinox
Meet me halfway
The sun is perched at its highest peak
In the middle of the day

What's this part all about? As every pagan Twilight fan would know, the sun is NOT perched at its highest point in the middle of the day during an equinox. That would be during the summer solstice. Very disappointed that they would get this incorrect. I may even lose sleep.

Being set in Washington state, depending on WHICH equinox the song is referring, you would begin seeing either a shortening or a lengthening of the daylight time. Hopefully, for film purposes, we'll be seeing a shortening.

it seems odd to reference a cyclical event than declare that everything ends

DEATH CAB?! Oh, why oh why did you give into this trend? This song is so amazing. And Twilight is just... so dumb. :( But still... I love you Mr. Gibbard.

I thought meet me on the equinox was a reference to time while halfway was a reference to place. Makes me wish that I were escaping to meet someone wonderful on the equinox. Great song.

personally i think this has to be from both edward & jacobs point of view on bella

edwards part: Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand (when he walks her into the meadow to tell her goodbye)

jacobs part: Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst (bella is still in her depressed stage)
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst
Let me lay beside you darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand (during jakes phase of first being a wolf he had to be away frm her until she figured out the secret.)

Not my favourite Death Cab song - which in itself is odd as several of those poetic/lyrical masterpieces jostle for top place. The lyrics here seem a bit more clumsy than vulnerable.

I personally can't stand the Twilight Saga and was a little surprised on hearing that one of my favourite bands (seriously, check them out live - totally worth the £17) were doing the song for the latest "film". Still, preferring to keep an open mind I've listened to the song several times now as the focus of the lyrics is not the movie per se. Apparently the band were "treated" to an extended showing of the sequel - which might explain why the song sounds a bit like a last minute project.

The lyrics might have worked with a different tune/tempo. That's what's annoying me. Gibbard has mentioned that the song is about compromise in a relationship and how it can save it and destroy it. Equinox describes the half-way points between December and summer and summer and December. These half-way points are natural and so are those in our interactions with each other. So, this song does have a lot to offer for the poet, naturalist and philosopher alike. Sadly the execution has been too much like the theme - compromised and a bit half way.

I love death cab, this song is quite beautiful. I just can't get over the fact that they would stoop to such levels of mediocrity and decide to sell their sound to the largest vampire franchise of all time. I'm not saying that they're sell outs, i understand that cash money needs to be made, but why couldn't they have picked a much more respectable movie?
They could have done a song for a Wes Anderson film.....It kind of makes me sad.

I think it's really relatable at like the part where it says "The sun is perched at its highest peak
in the middle of the day" I think they're talking about when Edward's stepping out into the sunlight in Volterra.

I really think it's a great song, a little odd, but its really relateable to the movie.!

The first few times I heard this song I didn't really like it. I much prefer Death Cab's earlier stuff but I've been listening to it more and more and it's really growing on me.

'The sun is perched at its highest peak in the middle of the day' - I can't figure out whether this was just a rushed lyric that was just put in to rhyme with the previous one or whether the matter of fact-ness about it reflects the matter of fact-ness about the situation that he later goes on to describe.

'Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst'
I think this part is saying that it's over and that nothing can change that, that every stone has been unturned and every bubble burst so there's nothing left. It's like something he's saying to a girl and it's what I meant by the matter of fact nature of it.

But then he goes on to say -
'Let me lay beside you darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand'
Which I think is his thoughts. Like he's trying to end things but he really doesn't want to so this part is saying how he really feels.

And the repetition of 'everything ends' is him trying to convince himself that it's the right things to do.

But that's just my interpretation of it, with no New Moon influence, just stuff going on with me, that's what I get from it.
