Lyrics for Again (album version) as interpreted by fireToSteel0423

Again (album version) Lyrics
I love the way that your heart breaks
With every injustice and deadly fates
Praying it all will be new
And living like it all depends on you

Oh

Chorus:
Here you are down on your knees again
Trying to find air to breathe again
And only surrender will help you now
I love you, please see and believe again

I love that you’re never satisfied
With face-value wisdom and happy lies
You take what they say and go back and cry
You’re so close to me that you nearly died

Oh

(Chorus)

They don’t have to understand you
Be still
Wait and know I understand you
Be still
Be still

Here you are down on your knees again
Trying to find air to breathe again
And only surrender will help you now
The flood gates are breaking, they’re pouring out

Here you are down on your knees
Trying to find air to breathe
Right where I want you to be again
I love you, please see and believe again

Here you are down on your knees again
Trying to find air to breathe again
And right where I want you to be again
See and believe

I love this song, but I really liked the original version. Is it just me or does anyone else think that they messed with Lacey's voice too much? Either way the song is still amazing and I can't wait till Memento Mori comes out.

I think it's about the narrator telling the person (maybe a relationship or just a friendship)that she knows life is taking a toll on them but if they believed in a higher power (Assuming God in this case) it could be easier on them. She mentions the word "again" pretty often hinting that this person used to believe but their faith is either slipping or lost. It's obvious they're struggling, due to the chorus. Overall, it's obviously about someone losing their faith and her telling them to regain it to make life smoother.

I think that this song is about how much of a struggle it can be to keep one's faith in God in this world. God loves our efforts to do so and is there to help us when it becomes hard.

stanza 1:
God loves it when the person is able to identify what is wrong and be disheartened by it. He loves it when the person prays these wrongs will be made right. On the other hand, He also loves it when the person lives as though the outcome of things depends on him/her.

Chorus:
The person has once again been left broken. The only thing that will fix him/her is letting God take over and not trying to fix everything by him/herself. God loves the person and wants him/her to see the truth and follow Him again.

stanza 2:
God loves that the person seeks His truth rather than what the world tells the person. He loves that the person stands strong and takes the things that others say while believing in God in the end (as hard as it may be).

stanza 3:
It is not important that others do not understand the person. (S)he can find peace in knowing that God does understand.

I think the line "right where I want you to be again" is saying that God recognizes that keeping faith in Him can be a struggle, but He loves that the person keeps coming back to Him.

Lacey has said it's about people who feel a restless need to change the world. God appreciates this, but he wants you to undertand that you're not him. The chorus really stuck a note with me. When I first began to doubt my atheism, I kept debating both sides of 'Does God exist?' and one of the major points was that a loving God would never treat his children badly, with poverty and death and all the other unpleasantness. We just have to understand it's God's plan, and he knows what he's doing.

I think it's closer to what Jemmargh said. I think it's about a person who wants to change the world so bad. They every prayer, they donate time, money and effort to the hopeless. And they do for a while but then they start to think that it's all about them. And they lose sight of God's hand in all of it. The person forgets that it's about God changing the world, not them. And then when things start to fall apart that's when they fall to their knees and are like "God it's yours I'm just your servant. Do YOUR will through me."

I love how loving the song portrays God. Especially in this stanza:

I love the way that your heart breaks
With every injustice and deadly fates
Praying it all will be new
And living like it all depends on you

It's like God just saying, "I love that you want to change the world. It makes me so happy. But son/daughter you need my help. You can't do this on your own." It's just amazing

I just watched an interview on MTV for Flyleaf and I listened to Lacy talk about how some of the songs she sang in the studio she acted as though she were singing to her sister. She said taht her sister had some of the same problems that she had and she wanted to help her. After hearing this song right now, I kind of think she's talking to her sister. Especially when she says "You're so close to me that you nearly died" because Lacy blames herself for her sister.
