i don't really think that i was ever the same after that. after all the first one is the worst one when it
comes to a broken heart. first cut is always the deepest, depending on how much you like the
person of course. obiously, he was crushed when he had his first real break up.

I think this time a fire killed that special one and left your heart broken. It took you a really long time to get over it and sometimes, you may not even get over it. Even if you do get over it, the memories will be brought back and you'll feel that noone can be compared to your first love because that special one would be unlike any other in your eyes.

The song begins with the typical symptoms of a break-up: feeling the person around you, endless thoughts about them, disbelief in how the perfect relationship somehow ended.
Then we learn that this is the writer's first broken heart, and how it hurts so badly; it's a new hurt that the person doesn't know. They'd do anything to get their love back, and just misses them so badly.
