Hey, hey, hey

Your lipstick stains on the front lobe of my left side brains
I knew I wouldn't forget you, and so I let you go and blow my mind
Your sweet moonbeam, the smell of you in every single dream, I dream
I knew when we collided, you're the one I have decided who's one of my kind

[Chorus]
Hey soul sister, ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo,
The way you move ain't fair, you know!
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do, tonight

Hey, hey, hey

Just in time, I'm so glad you have a one-track mind like me
You gave my life direction, a game show love connection we can't deny
I'm so obsessed, my heart is bound to beat right out of my untrimmed chest
I believe in you, like a virgin, you're Madonna
And I'm always gonna wanna blow your mind

[Chorus]

Well you can cut a rug, watching you's the only drug I need
So gangsta, I'm so thug, you're the only one I'm dreaming of
You see, I can be myself now finally, in fact there's nothing I can't be
I want the world to see you'll be, with me

[Chorus]

Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do,
Tonight
Hey, hey, hey
Tonight
Hey, hey, hey
Tonight

    My Interpretation:Soul Sister = is a soul mate if you're a male.

This song is about being in love with your best friend, which is common these days to say that a best friend is a soul mate. In the lyrics he is outlining the reason why he is in love with his soul mate, obviously of the opposite sex too. :)

Song Meaning:You're not gonna like this. This song is about the guy's porn addiction and his seeking a false form of intimacy. Think about it, the songwriters for train are intelligent and witty. Why would they write a nonsense song. They know what they're doing and they employ other song writers who are well established and witty as well. Check it out:

Your lipstick stains on the front lobe of my left side brains
    - leaves him speechless (lParietal Lobe, Left ) and impaired ability to behave himself (higher cognitive functions)
I knew I wouldn't forget you, and so I went and let you blow my mind
    - his overstimulated libido won't let him stop thinking about it until he "flogs the bishop"
Your sweet moon beam, the smell of you in every single dream I dream
    - her eyes or her breasts in dreamland or fantasy, objectively speaking, I'm certain it's the latter.
I knew when we collided, you're the one I have decided who's one of my kind
    - since the 'relationship' is one sided via internet, he chooses which girl is to his liking, what she wants from him, likes, etc. It's called objectification.

Hey soul sister, ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo, the way you move ain't fair, you know!
    - The only thing I can figure out is the translation of Kyrie is "Lord have mercy", hence her moves...
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do...tonight
    - addicted to porn, can't stop, just a little more, one more pop-up, internet search possible leads
    Hey, hey,hey

Just in time, I'm so glad you have a one-track mind like me
    - He's got the itch and what do you know, so does she because she's easily accessible on the net.
You gave my life direction, a game show love connection we can't deny
    - Hello! Casual encounters online, via chat or video chat. He gets to preview and select who he wants to connect with. And of course if there is virtual interaction then she says/does everything to his liking which means they are soul mates and meant for each eachother.
I'm so obsessed, my heart is bound to beat right out my untrimmed chest
    - lack of confidence and low self esteem, hence the need to hide-and-seek this exciting but false form of intimacy.
I believe in you, like a virgin, you're Madonna, and I'm always gonna wanna blow your mind
    - He can fantasize her to be whoever he wants her to be, a virgin, only for him, etc.

Hey soul sister, ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo, the way you move ain't fair, you know!
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do...tonight

The way you can cut a rug, watching you's the only drug I need
    - same brain chemicals and cycle/demand are present in online addictions as any other addiction
You're so gangsta, I'm so thug, you're the only one I'm dreaming of
    - I can be whoever I want to be on this side of the net
You see, I can be myself now finally, in fact there's nothing I can't be
    - typical addict's response to denial
I want the world to see you be with me
    - i guess he wants to make his own video with his object of desire or he's imagining he is the one servicing her on the web for all to see.

Song Meaning:All of you people who are saying you love this song must be listening to a different song than I am because this song is awful. The tune is catchy but being catchy does not make something great or even good. To me a good song is one that is basically a translation of pure emotion and artistic expression into sound that channels through your emotion in a way that is brilliant, profound and at the same time entrancing you with its rythym. This tune does none of that, but I can forgive that. I can admit it is not my kind of sound so I might be a little biased here, others may enjoy the tune far more than I do, and perhaps I am not fully appreciating its potential. However, the lyrics are utterly horrendous and unforgiveable. First off lets examine its main chorus line and title "Hey soul sister'......ahem....wtf is a 'soul sister'? Is it some kind of hippie girl? Or some reference to woman who either loves Soul/R&B or sings it? Or as somebody posted earlier, a reference to a Black Woman? That's a bit stereotypical for my tastes but whatever, we don't know exactly what he means so 'Soul Sister' could be anything but clearly it refers to either his girlfriend, lover, or some girl he likes and is trying to flirt with? Why would you refer to somebody you were attracted to as 'sister' or 'brother'? That is creepy, as in deep backwoods of the ozarks inbred hillbilly Deliverance creepy. But whatever, that can be overlooked I guess. But then theres the one line that really irks me..."aint that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo...the way you move ain't fair, ya know?" Ok......WTF? How does that make sense or mean anything? Okay there's no reason to rhyme radio & stereo, they pretty much mean the same exact thing, maybe it could slide if he used them in two separate lines but to use them one directly after the other is just tacky. And the other beef is with the way she moves. What is so unfair about her movement? Why isn't the way she moves not fair and how are we supposed to know this? So the answer is No, I don't know and I will not reassure you lead singer of Train that you girls unfair at her motion. What the hell is fair movement to begin with anyways? Who the hell decides what constitutes as fair and unfair movement? Clearly it is just bullshit nonsensical lyrics that he came up with just for the sake of having lyrics that flow and most importantly rhyme. When did rhyming become the most important aspect of lyrics in music these days? There are far too many Hacks out there trying to push their crappy songs on us, the public, by passing off simple, untalented, nonsensical, absurd and tacky lyrics that only rhyme as art and legitimate musical expression of their emotions and a reflection of the messages they are trying to convey in their songs, when turly in fact they are just bullshit. Rhymes are not talent. Yes, rhyming can be a beautiful, amazing and talented expression of emotion and of ones self. Just look at older genuinely good Hip-Hop & Rap, like Tupac, Big L, Biggie and the Wu-Tang Clan. Their rhymes were intelligent, true expressions of their inner selves, clever, intellectual and poigniant lyrics with actual messages and slick witty delivery too. And to add onto all of that the lyrics went with the beat and the overall song was made so good because of it. It was genius, great sound, beats, amazing rhyming feats and lyrics that not only made sense but connected with you the listener and told either an overall story or made an overall statement that was clear and made an impression on you. This song and other modern songs like it fail to achieve that artistic merit of song with "real" lyrics. And it's not just rhyming either, there is the nonsensical lyrics too. When used properly nonsense lyrics can be clever and witty , almost like a psychadelic poem. Take a look at the Beatles "I Am the Walrus", one of the lines goes as follows: "Elementary Penguin singing Hare Krishne, man you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allen Poe, I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the Walrus". I mean it sounds like nonsense, and it very well might be, but it is in a clever and witty way, not rediculous and absurd that they just came up with on the fly so they could have another song to make money off of. It's a song, its emotional, it conveys feelings and is a powerful song that makes you feel something, wether it is something as small as feeling enjoyment or just feeling like dancing, it still gives an emotion and is a real song. Not like this piece of crap song above. I think the best example of nonsense lyrics, that also happen to rhyme is Kurt Cobains lyrics. He makes lines that rhyme but speak volumes and actually make sense sometimes. Example: "I'm so tired I can't sleep, I'm a liar and a thief, sit here drinkin' PennyRoyal Tea, I'm anemic royalty..." See it rhymes, but it sounds good and flows with the song and sounds good. Basically Train and especially this song SUCKS

Song Meaning:He is in love with his best friend.
    1. She kisses him on the forehead (frontal lobe is the emotional part of the brain)
    2. They listen to 80s music together (Mr. Mister, Madonna)
    3. They watched old tv together (Love Connection)
    4. She dances to those 80s tunes because they're so comfortable togeter and "The way you move ain't fair you know."
    5. He remembers her perfume
    6. The list goes on.

General Comment:After reading for several years I just made an account so I could comment on this particular song thread - with all the other 80s pop references in this song...nobody's catching the 'Sweet Soul Sister' by the Cult here? :)

General Comment:In this song, a person falls head over heels for a woman, and unable to express his feelings directly, puts them in a song and sings it on the radio. Her female friends listen to that song and start to tease the woman saying "Isn't that your guy, on the radio, singing about you? You lucky gal! We are curious as to what you guys are going to do tonight!" in a funny way.

General Comment:This song is about how someone can trick the world into thinking they were serious. "You're so gangster, I'm so thug?" People bought into this? This might be the number one dumbest song ever. Worse than anything Limp Bizkit or ICP could EVER hope to write. I'm sorry, but you have failed at life if you like this song. Shame on Train for ever deciding to put this onto wax. Lord have mercy on your souls.

General Comment:at the time of a friend of mines death this was her favorite song. For her close friends i feel that this is a song that means a lot they were friends forever...:( its kinda goofy and silly and it is truly carefree. for the other girl involved in her death i feel like this song describes how they were they were very insinc although many go about interpreting his song as a male female relationship i interpret it as a female female friendship(people who are so close that they might as well be twins)

I'm so glad you have a one track mind like me.= they were so similar they could be twins
You gave my life direction, =her death made a lot of people wake up from a daze they were in and realize hey my life is going by right in front of me ad what if i dont like where it is going

idk maybe it was just the way ithink things through but in a way it makes sense

General Comment:Pat Monahan is exactly my age, and all the 80s pop references are songs from when we were kids. It's very reminiscent of that sweet, intense, fun time in life...first love and all that. So, I don't know. I think it's just a happy, sweet, vaguely sexy (but innocently sexy song).

Song Meaning:This song is clearly about a guy getting a blowjob from a girl.

    The line:

"Your lipstick stains, on the front lobe of my left side brains" first shows this. The lipstick stain is being left on his ballsack. When a girl gives a guy a blowjob, it is sometimes called "getting brain." She's so good at giving head that he "won't forget her" and she'll "blow his mind"
