Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.
In this night, I need to call you but all the lines are blown.
If only you knew, how empty I feel.
But maybe then you're lonely too,
And it's tearing through you like a punctured wound.
Maybe no one knows what to do.
When we know we're alone in a temporary home.
Maybe we'll realize that's a blessing in disguise.
A blessing in disguise.
Well don't you know the sound of anger brings a dark result.
And every insult is like a lightning bolt.
So go home now, oh yeah,
You don't have one, to some guy that you don't know.
And make a baby, but that won't change my problem though.
I spent the last three years setting myself on fire for you.
I spent the last three years never knowing if what you say is true.
And it'll be this way until one of us dies.
Is that a blessing in disguise?
It's a blessing in disguise.
And I tell myself what we're living for.
And say, rejoice, evermore.
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah
Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah
'Til one of us dies.
'Til one of us dies.
Well I confess that so far happiness eludes me in my life.
You better hurry up if its ever to be mine.
Better hurry up now if we're ever gonna find, what we're living for.
If it's not you, anymore.
I'll learn,
To sing:
Evermore, rejoice.
Evermore, rejoice.
Evermore, rejoice.
Evermore, rejoice.
Evermore, rejoice.
Evermore, rejoice.
Evermore, rejoice.
Evermore, rejoice.
Evermore, rejoice.
Evermore, rejoice.
Evermore, rejoice.
If only you knew, how empty I feel.
But maybe then you're lonely too,

Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.
Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
The Night We Met
Lord Huron
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
this song caught my ear immediately. the heavy guitar part is great and somehow they work in a choir at the end of the song. i figure its just about him resenting a woman for not having the same feelings about him as he does for her. and he sees the terrible things she does and he realizes its better they arent together in a serious way. but still he wants her.
amazing guitar.<br /> <br /> ah- i wouldnt say she doesnt have teh same feelings as him. somtimes people have the same feelings but one has an insight ,the other may not have, about the relationship. And so they move on because its whats best. And sometimes people just caught up on eachother and cant let go. maybe it wasnt working out so they gave eachother space.<br /> at first it says<br /> "if only you knew how empty i feel<br /> maybe then your lonley too"<br /> <br /> they werent together. he was alone hopeing she was lonely for him as well.<br /> <br /> " i spent the last three years<br /> setting my self on fire for you.<br /> <br /> i spent the last three years <br /> never knowing if what you say is true"<br /> <br /> he waited 3 years, hurting, burning, probly with the feeling of a big hole inside him. But wouldn't dare close the space between them compleatly- for whatever reason.<br /> <br /> <br /> to me it sounds like the broke up for some reason, she either started dating or had guy friends, and that hurt him. they probly talked now and then which turned to argueing and insults ["every insult is like a lighning bolt"]<br /> <br /> but in the end the music turns to a much more positive sound and he repeats over and over<br /> "it'll be this wat till one of us dies<br /> is that a blessing in disguise<br /> ....<br /> and say, rejoice evermore"<br /> <br /> <br /> He must of realized that the bond and love between them was really somthing. and even tho is had to be broken. It'll always be there, and maybe in the end, he was glad for everything. maybe he realized it was somthing great, letting the bitterness go.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> or maybe not?
angelique22 i love ur interpretation, cuz its just the way i see this song right now and parallels my life exactly at the moment
ANGELIQUE22 your interpretation is perfect. and inthebackground, this song parallels my life too. Me and a girl got real close over time but i sacrificed so much for her ("I spent the last three years setting myself on fire for you") and in the end we decided a little time apart would do us good ("is that a blessing in my disguise"). but now "if only you knew how empty i feel maybe then your lonley too" is what i'm thinking and i know she's moved on, embraced other guys, living life through weed and alcohol, basically become another person: ha, well in conclusion i've learned, "If it's not you anymore<br /> I learn to sing Evermore" End of My RANT.
Angelique22............you could have not hit the nail on the head more !! i especially agree about how you say maybe they did both love each other just as much as the other did but one had more insight that the other didnt.....BEEN THERE.....AMEN
