And so I found myself in the sun, oh yeah…
A hell of a place to end a run, oh yeah…

California, I'm fine,
Somebody check my brain
California's alright,
Somebody check my brain

I walked these streets a creep in a fog, oh yeah…
When she sang I answered the call, oh yeah…

California, I'm fine,
Somebody check my brain
California's alright,
Somebody check my brain

Tears that filled my bong…
Years expended gone…

I hung my guns and put 'em away, oh yeah…
A trick of the trade and by the way, oh yeah…

California, I'm fine,
Somebody check my brain
California's alright,
Somebody check my brain

Tears that filled my bong,
Years expended gone.
Tears that filled my bong,
Years expended gone.

General Comment:I was skeptical about checking out this album, mostly because I thought there would be no point, but I was proven wrong. Even without Layne, Alice In Chains are still rockin'. This song and "Your Desicion" have to be my favorites off the album.

General Comment:this for anybody could be a song about moving on from a darker time of drug dependancy, but for jerry cantrell, it's about his move from seattle to la...check my brain is in reference to all the drugs he's done in the past...nowadays he's clean.

General Comment:This song is so plain! I wonder how it is nominated for a Grammy! But not awful though...

General Comment:I love Alice in chains..they arent one of my favorites...but i can never understand the meanings to their songs. And what really aggravates me is when they always say oh yeah or some form of yeah in their songs...other than that they are awesome.

General Comment:This song is hands down about Jerry and the boys finally leving the dark state of Washington for Cali and they all can't believe it and they want us to check their brains! Who agrees?

General Comment:not too sure what "tears have filled my bong" could mean but yeah the rest is pretty obvious that its about his thoughts on moving to LA. kickass song i love AIC! hope to be seeing them soon live...cant wait

General Comment:im like you Submetal, i have mixed feelings with this new stuff, because it never will be the old Alice in Chains, and I as you, feel they should have renamed the band. Though alot of these songs are good, this song is about the only one that has that Alice in Chains feel, and its a loose grip at that. Some Singers just shouldnt be replaced...

General Comment:Awesome song.... Jerry said in a sit down on MTV that it was about a kind of ironic reflection on the fact that he's living in LA now even though in the past he never thought that he would. And how despite all it's faults it's physically a beautiful place and also a place where people come to realize their dreams. It definitely has a bit of a stoner vibe to it too, I think.

Speaking of which... the above lyrics are incorrect in a couple places. Particularly "I walked these streets a creep in a fog" not "and I fall" And also it's "Tears that filled my bong" not "bowl".

Anyway, not sure about everyone else, but I'm OCD in buying solid copies so those lyrics are from the actual CD booklet. You should own it... the artwork is freakin fantastic too. Just sayin'.

Here, I laid the song out, corrected...

And so I found myself in the sun, oh yeah
A hell of a place to end a run, oh yeah

    California, I'm fine
    Somebody check my brain

    California's alright
    Somebody check my brain

    Check my brain

I walked these streets a creep in a fog, oh yeah
When she sang I answered the call, oh yeah

    California, I'm fine
    Somebody check my brain

    California's alright
    Somebody check my brain

    Tears that filled my bong...
    Years expended gone...

I hung my guns and put 'em away, oh yeah
The trick of the trade and by the way, oh yeah

    California, I'm fine
    Somebody check my brain

    California's alright
    Somebody check my brain

    Tears that filled my bong,
    Years expended gone.
    Tears that filled my bong,
    Years expended gone.

    Check my brain (x3)
