How stubborn are the scars when they won't fade away?
Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?
We'll be home soon so dry your eyes
You'll be okay
Oh my god
The water is rising
You just have to believe in me
Failing that I'll ride this storm alone
We can still make it out
'Fuck'
I can help you through this
But you have to take my hand
I can take you home
Take my hand, take my hand
I should've known the tides were getting higher
We can still survive
They think we're drowning but our heads are still above the waves
You never said goodbye
Now you're on your own
Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?
We'll be home soon so dry your eyes
You'll be okay
Oh my god
The water is rising
You just have to believe in me
Failing that I'll ride this storm alone
We can still make it out
'Fuck'
I can help you through this
But you have to take my hand
I can take you home
Take my hand, take my hand
I should've known the tides were getting higher
We can still survive
They think we're drowning but our heads are still above the waves
You never said goodbye
Now you're on your own

Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?
This makes me thing about Self-Harm
We'll be home soon so dry your eyes You'll be okay.
The water is rising
You just have to believe in me
Failing that I'll ride this storm alone
We can still make it out
I can help you through this
But you have to take my hand
I can take you home
Someone is trying to help another.
I should've known the tides were getting higher
We can still survive
They think we're drowning but our heads are still above the waves
You never said goodbye
Now you're on your own
May be suicide?
About a girlfriend or someone he has back home that misses him.
He says:
"We'll be home soon, so dry your eyes
You'll be okay, "
and
"You just have to believe in me"
In other words, she has to trust him.
And he talks about the tides getting higher,
It could be a reference to how hard life on tour is,
that things are just getting more and more intense.
but he still has hope and says they can still do it.
and at the end, I think they just eventually drifted away,
without really ending things but rather growing apart,
from the distance, and he's says
"You never said goodbye (Goodbye)
And now your on your own "
and at the end he says goodbye.
So this song is kind of his fare well to her.
but that's just some food for thought,
or atleast my analysis as a musician,
Life on tour can be hard, especially being away
from someone you love.
For the lyrics, you could either look at literally or figuratively. From a literal point of view, I think it's about how the couple had a fight and then the girl drowned herself."You never said goodbye." If you want to look at in a different way, it could be about a failed relationship. The tides being a metaphor for their relationship. He doesn't want to let it go hence the lyrics, "we can still survive." but sadly their relationship ends. "The tides were getting higher."
I personally think it's about a failed relationship. He still has hope it's going to work out, "take my hand." but it doesn't work out.. That's just what I think. I just can't get over how amazing this song is.
Many labels in the music industry make bands big to send the message.
in a single moment of sincerity he explains it better as he says "these oceans are far between our hearts,
the breathing has got too hard"
the rest is pretty self explanatory once u think about it like that and the "How stubborn are the scars when they won't fade away?, Or just a gentle reminder that now are better days?" is just really good lyrics thrown in randomly to create an epic intro
From a musician's perspective, this makes a lot of sense.
My take on the song is the story of Moses. The lead in of the song talking about if the scars being too stubborn or can the bearer of the scars look at them and see better days ahead, shows (again to me) the slaves that were freed by Moses while on his quest from God. While Moses tells his followers to dry their eyes and that they will be home soon. Home could be a different part of the world or simply freedom itself.
Oh My God! The water is rising, its rising You just have to believe in me Failing that I'll ride this storm alone We can still make it out FUCK!
Clearly the Red Sea is parting for Moses through Gods powers guding Moses and the followers to freedom. I am sure yelling FUCK wasn't the only thing yelled out of excitment and panic.
The rest of the song is Gods voice (the deep grumble from the singer) saying he can take them through this if they take his hand. Inviting god in and believeing in his power. The tides get higher and higher yet they are not drowning. The song says they thnk we are drowning...perhaps those on the outside looking at the sea and not going on the journey. But the song reinforces that they are still alive.
The end of saying you never said goodbye, could be once Moses was done with his quest God moved on and left nothing during his parting from Moses. I don't know if God spoke to Moses after the parting of the red sea or if Moses talked to the followers after that journey.
