I find shelter in this way
Under cover hideaway
And can you hear when I say
I have never felt this way?

Maybe I had said something that was wrong
Can I make it better with the lights turned on?
Maybe I had said something that was wrong
Can I make it better with the lights turned on?

Could I be? Was I there?
It felt so crystal in the air
I still want to drown whenever you leave
Please teach me gently how to breathe

And I'll cross oceans like never before
So you can feel the way I feel it too
And I'll mirror images back at you
So you can see the way I feel it too

Maybe I had said something that was wrong
Can I make it better with the lights turned on?
Maybe I had said something that was wrong
Can I make it better with the lights turned on?

Maybe I had said something that was wrong
Can I make it better with the lights turned on?
Maybe I had said something that was wrong
Can I make it better with the lights turned on?
Maybe I had said something that was wrong
Can I make it better with the lights turned on?

    My Interpretation

Although all of the interpretations above seem legitimate, I have always thought of this song in another way that has nothing to do with sex. I considered it as having something to do with someone who finds shelter in guarding her feelings and maybe not letting them out as much as she should (I find shelter in this way. Under cover, hide away).

But then she doesn't make it clear to the other person how she feels and has to try and make it knowledgeable somehow, offering to be more honest (Can I make it better with the lights turned on?) and again (And I'll cross oceans like never before...) could mean that she is now willing to do whatever is needed to make her lover understand how she really feels (I still want to drown whenever you leave).

She needs to learn how to open herself up so she can enjoy the relationship better (Please teach me gently how to breathe) and so she needs help from her partner to build a trusting relationship.

-I hope this interpretation makes some sense.
