The paranoia is in bloom, the P-R
Transmissions will resume
They'll try to push drugs
Keep us all dumbed down and hope that
We will never see the truth around
(So come on!)

Another promise, another scene, another
Another package lie to keep us trapped in greed
With all the green belts wrapped around our minds
And endless red tape to keep the truth confined
(So come on!)

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

Interchanging mind control
Come let the revolution take its toll if you could
Flick a switch and open your third eye, you'd see that
We should never be afraid to die
(So come on!)

Rise up and take the power back, it's time that
The fat cats had a heart attack, you know that
Their time is coming to an end
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

Hey, hey, hey, hey!
Hey, hey, hey, hey!
Hey, hey, hey, hey!

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

Hey, hey, hey, hey!
Hey, hey, hey, hey!

Song Meaning:Muse have cited George Orwell's book 1984 as a major influence on the lyrics of the band's forthcoming fifth album.

Uprising is about the relationship between Winston & Julia, no doubt.

Song Meaning:This song, in my opinion, is about communism and the Russian Revolution.

"Keep us all dumbed down and hope that
We will never see the truth around"

This sounds like China after the 1989 Tian An Men Square protests. A bit of a history lesson here, as you know China is in a communist state and definitely was in 1989. Well, students wanted a more democratic government so they demonstrated in Tian An Men Square in Beijing. Well, the government didn't like that so they killed the people in the Square, but didn't want anyone to know about it so they lied and said people were only arrested for violent acts, but would instead get gunned down in the streets. Now the Chinese people don't even have access to YouTube to keep that event a secret (don't call me up on that, I've only heard that, not for a fact).

"And endless red tape to keep the truth confined"

Again communists tend to do this, sooo...yeah.

    "Interchanging mind control
Come let the revolution take its toll if you could
Flick a switch and open your third eye, you'd see that
We should never be afraid to die"

This whole verse is basically stating that revolutionists will fight to the death, rather to be forced into working and getting the same wages. In a communist state, basically, people will get paid the same thing. Or better explanation: If you have two, say, paper salesmen, they get the same wage. But one of them has nearly twice the amount of sales as the other guy, but that doesn't matter they both get the same pay check.

"Rise up and take the power back, it's time that
The fat cats had a heart attack, you know that
Their time is coming to an end"

This verse is the actual fight back to "take the power back". Revolutionists will fight their leaders to get more say in their own country.

"We have to unify and watch our flag ascend"

And this last part is stating that they have to work together attack the military, head on. And finally the Chorus.

    "They will not force us
    They will stop degrading us
    They will not control us
    We will be victorious"

This is the end result the power is not strong enough and the revolutionists will take over. Look at it this way, for Russia especially, there's a whole lot more people that will fight to get a democracy, than there are in the military.

    ***

Reading back on this post it came out a bit wrong so I must clarify. If I read this post I would probably think "Oh this guy's very democratic, doesn't like anything but capitalism!" Don't get me wrong I like living in a democratic system, but I don't have a problem with communists. Like a democracy it has it's pros and cons. The only major issue I have with it is that it doesn't give people a motive. Like the paper salesmen, the guy with the least sales is thinking "well, why would I do a better job if I get the same salary? What's the point?" I know I'd think that.

My Opinion:"The paranoia is in bloom, the P-R Transmissions will resume"
The evening news thrives when they grip the public in paranoia. Their motive is not to deliver news. It is to keep you glued to the screen.

"Another promise, another scene, another packaged lie to keep us trapped in greed"
Presidential candidates debating about nonsense and promises to make our lives better. Their resounding theme for economical growth is 'consumer spending' so they keep the public trapped in the neverending cycle of consumerism and greed.

"With all the green belts wrapped around our minds. And endless red tape to keep the truth confined"
To me, this could mean the fear of environmental collapse on our planet. And then the real climate issues are shrouded in red tape, politicised and regulated in such a way to bring the government more power.

    "Interchanging mind control"
Right wing, Left wing, it is all interchangeable in terms of the long term impact to this country. Less freedom. More government power.

Come let the revolution take its toll if you could flick a switch and open your third eye, you'd see that we should never be afraid to die"
The unprecedented focus on self today means that no one is willing to make the sacrifices to make the change we all desperately need.

"Rise up and take the power back, it's time that the fat cats had a heart attack, you know that their time is coming to an end we have to unify and watch our flag ascend"
We have been lulled into complacency by a lifestyle of comfort and false prosperity. When in truth, we have evolved into beings that are dependent on government and are unable to take care of our own selves. We need to put our petty differences aside and take back the power we've given to big governments and big corporations!

    They will not force us
    They will stop degrading us
    They will not control us
    We will be victorious

My Opinion:"They will not force us
    They will stop degrading us
    They will not control us
    We will be victorious"

To me, this song is a reflection of a very contemporary political trend. This trend, very much popularized by the Ron Paul surge of 2008, puts a central focus on the principle of liberty. This high regard for personal freedom is one that started all the way back in the days of the American Revolution. Thinkers like Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin contributed to the ideology that is true republicanism. This movement, frequently called the "Ron Paul Revolution' is a national "call to arms." Not literally, but metaphorically. Just as the Founding Fathers and the American people broke free from tyranny, these contemporary Patriots attempt to do the same. A dislike for banking, corporatism, big government, and high taxes are all tenets which comprise this movement's ideology. Perhaps even more fascinating is the fact that whether you attribute these qualities to Ron Paul or the Founding Fathers, that it's an international uprising. The singer of Muse, Matthew Bellamy, is himself from England, and is also a libertarian. This is an example of how the call for an end to the systematic control of the lives of the people is one not exclusive (though prominent) to the United States. Just as the Patriots were victorious, and just as they were not stamped on, controlled, forced upon, or anything, so shall the brave men and women of this modern day revolution be victorious.

General Comment:This is a really good song, and I love the parallels you can draw to modern society with this.

But to be slightly cynical, I can't help but think of a line by another band here:

"Music of rebellion makes you wanna rage, but it's made by millionaires who are nearly twice your age."

Anyway, it's a good song. I don't mean to put it down, just wondered if anyone else thought the same.

Song Meaning:This song is a protest in general ABOUT THE WHOLE FKING SYSTEM.
    The SYSTEM RIGHT NOW.
Don't people see it? We live our lives, but we're FORCED into work (or slavery) because we NEED money to maintain our lives. MONEY is a human invention, and the big banks, businesses and supposed government CONTROL THIS FLOW (the fat cats.)

But through media, TV, internet, games whatever (DRUGS) we're too occupied to think CRITICALLY now. You tell one person something like this, their response is "CONSPIRACY THEORY".
Can you not realise you're forced to work? It's not conspiracy, it's logic.

THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS is to UNIFY as people and as a collective REALISE THAT WE'VE BEEN FKED OVER by a system so outdated, a system that only benefits the "ELITE" at the top of the money chain.

Is it really about the book 1984? It might be related to it, but I think it's more about today's reality, you just don't realise it.

General Comment:I think this link of the protests in Wall Street and the bankers looking down on them laughing and drinking champaign fits pretty closely with this song. Power to the people they laugh at us from up high but they wont be laughing when we tear them down. youtube.com/…
