Wait
I watched you throw out your bouquet
Now I think about you everyday
I'm alone now in my bed

And there's a lake
And at the bottom you'll find all our friends
They don't swim cause they're all dead
We never are what we intend, or invent
'Cause I make little lies and then I pull them apart
Think something dark's living down in my heart

And if I wanted to die before I got old
I should've started some years ago digging that hole
Well I carry this box to the proper place
And when I lower it down
I let it you fade away
I hope that you would do this for me
I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate
If I thought it would help you get away
I hope that you would do this for me

A deer that a hunter shot in the heart
Some dogs that got hit by cars
All came to spill their guts

And we spoke
About the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
And which songs we had loved the most
And then we all turned to dirt
And dust
Some men die under the mountain just looking for gold
Some die looking for a hand to hold

Well I carry this box to its proper place
And when I lower it down
I let you fade away
I know that you would do this for me
I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate
If I thought it would help you get away
I hope that you would do this for me

I'm slowly bringing you down from the Heavenly gates
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Well explain myself to me on the other side
I'll watch from Heaven when I die

Well I carry this box to the proper place
And when I lower it down
I let you fade away
I know that you would do this for me
I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate
If I thought it would help you get away
I hope that you would do this for me

General Comment:For the crazy breakdown bit, the lyrics are definatley:

"I stole bricks from the dam almost every day
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Explain myself to me on the other side
I'm gonna want some answers when I die"

As said in comments above, listen to the Daisy studio version on youtube, pretty clear

General Comment:This sounds weird and a bit like rambling, but am I the only one who gets an "At The Bottom" feel to this song? I had to pick a song for this music assignment and I have explain it's musical elements, obviously I chose At The Bottom and while I was explaining it's "Timbre", it occurred to me that this song has a weightless, sort of heavy feel you know, the kind you get when your at the bottom of a pool or something like that. Don't really know how to explain it further without posting my actual assignment... but yeah, weird. Just thought I'd mention that.

General Comment:Okay one paragraph needs to be corrected, after listening to the live studio version of this song, I realized this paragraph:

Well I try bringing you down almost every day
Now I'm drowning in this flood I've made
Well explain myself to me, from the other side
I'll watch from Heaven when I die

Needs to be changed to this:

Well I stole bricks from the dam almost everyday
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Well explain myself to me on the other side
I'm gonna want some answers when I die

My Interpretation:New to the site, although I've browsed it many times in the past, and this is the first song I've ever wanted to comment on- enough to sign up :)

Just an interpretation from a parallel in my life. I get the end of a relationship even if it sounds to simple for Brand New a Brand New song.

All our friends are dead meaning mutual friends.

We never are what we intend, or invent meaning what you wanted your relationship to be versus what it is and what you may try or have tried to make it into, or invent. Or a bad relationship presented to world falsely.

Carry this box to it's proper place and fading away chorus part to me means burying the past or the relationship and letting someone go.

Serving drugs on a silver plate- meaning like how people abuse drugs or alcohol to avoid sadness or problems... you would do that if you thought it would help them let go too. (Also, found in other Brand New songs "If it makes you less sad I'll take your pictures all down...)

Hence, I hope you would do this for me too. let me go.

General Comment:I stole bricks from the damn almost every day
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Will they explain myself to me on the other side?

General Comment:When I first heard this song, I thought of the bouquet mentioned in the beginning as a symbol of youth, meaning the person is throwing their youth away. The box being lowered has its literal meaning of a funeral as well as the end of the relationship as many have said if taken this way. And perhaps it was the suicide of someone young, as the drugs on the silver plate might suggest he would do anything to help them get through their problems. I had a friend that just committed suicide, so perhaps that influenced my interpretation, but it does seem to fit. I don't believe they wrote this song with one specific meaning in mind, but they purposefully wrote it to fit with many different meanings -- the best songs always are.

    General Comment:100%...? me too. lol

Well I stole bricks from your dam almost everyday
And now I'm drowning in a flood I made
Will they explain myself to me on the other side
Because I'll want some answers when I die

Listen carefully. Seriously. I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure. No one except the band is 100% but..
    I'm 100% I'm at least 96.969697% correct. lol

General Comment:Agreed with Arter and PrivateEyeAP. It's really hard to catch it, but try and stretch out Heavenly Gates and you get Almost Everyday, also push the volume up and you can hear dam. Amazing lyrics though. Its sort of like doing a little bit of a bad thing, until it eventually blows up in your face. I'm sure someone can explain that better, and I hope they do. Great, great song.

This is why I hate it when people who never come to the site post new lyrics to feel special. Then we're left with pages that don't ever get updated.
