Wait
I watched you throw out your bouquet
Now I think about you everyday
I'm alone now in my bed
And there's a lake
And at the bottom you'll find all our friends
They don't swim cause they're all dead
We never are what we intend, or invent
'Cause I make little lies and then I pull them apart
Think something dark's living down in my heart
And if I wanted to die before I got old
I should've started some years ago digging that hole
Well I carry this box to the proper place
And when I lower it down
I let it you fade away
I hope that you would do this for me
I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate
If I thought it would help you get away
I hope that you would do this for me
A deer that a hunter shot in the heart
Some dogs that got hit by cars
All came to spill their guts
And we spoke
About the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
And which songs we had loved the most
And then we all turned to dirt
And dust
Some men die under the mountain just looking for gold
Some die looking for a hand to hold
Well I carry this box to its proper place
And when I lower it down
I let you fade away
I know that you would do this for me
I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate
If I thought it would help you get away
I hope that you would do this for me
I'm slowly bringing you down from the Heavenly gates
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Well explain myself to me on the other side
I'll watch from Heaven when I die
Well I carry this box to the proper place
And when I lower it down
I let you fade away
I know that you would do this for me
I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate
If I thought it would help you get away
I hope that you would do this for me
I watched you throw out your bouquet

"I stole bricks from the dam almost every day
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Explain myself to me on the other side
I'm gonna want some answers when I die"
As said in comments above, listen to the Daisy studio version on youtube, pretty clear
Well I try bringing you down almost every day
Now I'm drowning in this flood I've made
Well explain myself to me, from the other side
I'll watch from Heaven when I die
Needs to be changed to this:
Well I stole bricks from the dam almost everyday
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Well explain myself to me on the other side
I'm gonna want some answers when I die
Just an interpretation from a parallel in my life. I get the end of a relationship even if it sounds to simple for Brand New a Brand New song.
All our friends are dead meaning mutual friends.
We never are what we intend, or invent meaning what you wanted your relationship to be versus what it is and what you may try or have tried to make it into, or invent. Or a bad relationship presented to world falsely.
Carry this box to it's proper place and fading away chorus part to me means burying the past or the relationship and letting someone go.
Serving drugs on a silver plate- meaning like how people abuse drugs or alcohol to avoid sadness or problems... you would do that if you thought it would help them let go too. (Also, found in other Brand New songs "If it makes you less sad I'll take your pictures all down...)
Hence, I hope you would do this for me too. let me go.
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Will they explain myself to me on the other side?
I'm gonna want some answers when I die.
You can hear it very clearly here: youtube.com/…
Well I stole bricks from your dam almost everyday
And now I'm drowning in a flood I made
Will they explain myself to me on the other side
Because I'll want some answers when I die
Listen carefully. Seriously. I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure. No one except the band is 100% but..
I'm 100% I'm at least 96.969697% correct. lol
I think it's mostly right, though I might retract the 'And' in the 2nd line but other than that it sounds right to me. (I basically went by the studio version because I know Jesse often changes lyrics live, though I have listened to several live ones and they all sound the same to me on this song)
I just love this part of this song, and the lyrics are so amazing, though I love the rest of the song too.
And yeah, for me its so hard to explain how cool this song is. I mean, I have this and Sowing Season in a playlist, been listening to it the whole day. Just awesome, especially this part, the lyrics are just so amazing.
As far as the lyrics to me in this one it sounds like(very clearly, like you said)
Well I stole bricks from the dam almost everyday
Now I'm drowning in a flood I made
Will they explain myself to me on the other side
I'm gonna want some answers when I die
Hmm, now when I listen to the studio version again I can hear that. I think the 'the' was 'matrixed' with a 'guitar' and idk the last line, I was just wrong.
PS I've been listening to Sowing Season ALOT lately too. I love that song. I liked it since I first heard it but I just found a new ear for it I suppose. It's such a good song.
It does still seem like "they" though, I guess only people who really know the lyrics are Brand New. And they don't seem to believe in lyrical booklets anymore. But at least we still have them - and that makes up for a lot.
@ RA2y5 lol, I wouldn't know flat from sharp is my life depended on it. haha oh well at least your friends will listen to Brand New, none of my friends like them.
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Will He explain myself to me on the other side
I'm gonna want some answers when I die."
100% correct
Now I'm drowning in the flood I made
Explain myself to me on the other side
I will want some answers when I die."
This is why I hate it when people who never come to the site post new lyrics to feel special. Then we're left with pages that don't ever get updated.
