In the beginning he's talking about how he watched the love of his life get married and isn't over her clearly and now he's alone but plays it off like it's not bothering him. I don't think it's a metaphor about friends being dead, I think some friends definitely died that he was close to and it's changed him a lot. (going back to TDAGARIM) The box, I think, is referring to a coffin. But I'm not sure what he wants when he says 'I hope that you would do this for me' or who/what would get away by giving them drugs. Maybe the point of view of the song changes? I think when he talks about the deer getting shot or dog getting killed by a car it's his grim outlook on life and how death is constantly everywhere. Deep and depressing song but really intriguing. Not sure what the chorus is about. These new songs are deep and make you think. I like it a lot.

But when it comes to

I'm thinking "slowly bringing you down" is more like realizing she is not perfect, not what he thought she was. or getting over her. but 'drowing in the flood' is like, he's pretty engulfed by his sadness, and the tears. and the mess.
and "explain myself to me on the other side," is like, when he's gone, she can talk and think about it, and reflect, because he'll be in heaven listening to her every word and that's probably the only way she will be honest, when she talks to him when he's dead.

here, i think he's talking about how they had so much in common, and their conversations were filled, yet their turned malicious and vile and then to nothing.

I think here, its more like they are not friends with the friends they did have during the relationship because of the breakup. they're all dead could mean they don't mean anything anymore. the ties are dead.
and 'we are never what we intend' could mean that no matter how hard he hoped and wished for what he wanted them to be, as in perfect lovers/soulmates, it never turns out quite the way you want it to. nothing in life does.

Mostly because the writer could have chosen the words "my" friends instead of "our" friends. Which implies that he is talking about the friends he shared with the girl he was talking about in the paragraph above.

and then he talks about how his friends are dead which means they're living boring lives and they aren't doing anything
the next part "We never are what we intend, or invent" shows that these people who are living boring lives obviously never wanted that
next it seems like maybe the person has the intentions of hurting someone, but i could be totally off by that
"And if I wanted to die before I got old" suggests that someone isn't doing anything with their life (going back to how the person's life is boring) and that if you sit around and do nothing it's the equivalent to being dead
"I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate" could possibly mean that it'd make someone more exciting and make them forget about things
whoever the person is talking knows that the person who died, is in the box etc, is going to not be remembered. they had a short lived life and didn't do much in it
then it talks about how some people don't deserve to die and how people will always look for things in life and never get to them
