I hopped off the plane at LAX
With a dream and my cardigan
Welcome to the land of fame excess (whoa)
Am I gonna fit in?

Jumped in a cab
Here I am for the first time
Look to my right, and I see the Hollywood sign
This is all so crazy
Everybody seems so famous

My tummy's turnin' and I'm feelin' kinda home sick
Too much pressure and I'm nervous
That's when the taxi man turned on the radio
And a Jay-Z song was on
And a Jay-Z song was on
And a Jay-Z song was on

So I put my hands up
They're playing my song
The butterflies fly away
I'm noddin' my head like, yeah
Movin' my hips like, yeah
I got my hands up
They're playin' my song
They know I'm gonna be okay
Yeah, it's a party in the USA
Yeah, it's a party in the USA

Get to the club in my taxi cab
Everybody's looking at me now
Like, "who's that chick, that's rockin' kicks?
She's gotta be from out of town"

So hard with my girls not around me
Its definitely not a Nashville party
'Cause all I see are stilettos
I guess I never got the memo

My tummy's turnin' and I'm feelin' kinda home sick
Too much pressure and I'm nervous
That's when the DJ dropped my favorite tune
And a Britney song was on
And a Britney song was on
And a Britney song was on

So I put my hands up
They're playing my song
The butterflies fly away
I'm noddin' my head like, yeah
Movin' my hips like, yeah
I got my hands up
They're playin' my song
They know I'm gonna be okay
Yeah, it's a party in the USA
Yeah, it's a party in the USA

Feel like hoppin' on a flight (on a flight)
Back to my hometown tonight (town tonight)
Something stops me every time (every time)
The DJ plays my song and I feel alright

So I put my hands up
They're playing my song
The butterflies fly away
I'm noddin' my head like, yeah
Movin' my hips like, yeah
I got my hands up
They're playin' my song
They know I'm gonna be okay
Yeah, it's a party in the USA
Yeah, it's a party in the USA

So I put my hands up
They're playing my song
The butterflies fly away
I'm noddin' my head like, yeah
Movin' my hips like, yeah
I got my hands up
They're playin' my song
They know I'm gonna be okay
Yeah, it's a party in the USA
Yeah, it's a party in the USA

I think the meaning of this song is clear...this is obviously an allegory for the Spanish Civil War. Really brilliant if you look closely at its well crafted and nuanced lyrics.

Her voice is Autotuned to "perfection." When she says "Yeah, it's a party in the U.S.A.," the "yeah" part sound so processed. Hooray for processed pop music.

When I first heard this song, I threw up in my mouth (metaphorically). The writers of this song took an iPod full of cliche, overused lines and pressed shuffle. And the result was this song.

The two big kickers for me were: "And the Jay-Z song was on." Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus/ Destiny/ Hope/ Grace/ whatever the hell she's deciding to be called now IS NOT allowed to sing about Jay-Z. Ever. Even if there was a fire! (haha, Stepbrothers refrence) It should be illegal. I bet Jay-Z was not happy about this.

And the other one is: "It's a party in the U.S.A" WTF. She's talking about being nervous, and now the whole United States of America is throwing a party? Who comes up with this nonsense!? It is pure ridiculousness.

However, whoever else puts this song together did a good job of making it marketable and playable on the radio. The beat is catchy and her voice sounds pretty good. (As good as Hannah Miley Destiny Cyrus Montana can get) But the words are, on a scale of 1 to 10, a -4. Really terrible.

But, I'm not so rude normally :) Just this song. Makes me want to throw knives at babies. Haha, just kidding. kind of. :D

Well, can anyone tell me how to post lyrics for a band, rather than get the artist approved? Because the artist isn't on here...

    Song Meaning

Like someone said earlier: Miley is talking about being nervous entering LA - which is a whole different place than Tenessee (Her Home-State). When she hears the 'Britney' song or the 'Jay-Z' song, she realizes that she's in the same world - the same country even - and is reassured. She describes her relief as "A Party in the USA" (: Hope that helped!

ok, i have never liked Miley Cyrus. But she did get a bit of respect from me when she sang live on the alan carr show and changed it from - and the britney song was on, into - and the michael song was on, and she tried to do the crotch grabb thing and looked stupid.

but yeah, dont really like her but that was a good thing to do.

I love this song. Her preformace at the teen choice awards of this song was totally awesome aside from the hot pants and pole dancing. Jk

i don't like any of her other music, and to be honest, her existance annoys me.

hate how she tries dressing like she's older, and talking about going to the club? she's not even old enough to get in, i don't care how famous you are. hahaha

but this song is alright. the meaning is obvious.

She's nothing more than a marketable little girl with no singing talent. Talking about clubbing? She's years away from legally being allowed to sip alcohol. Can she even drive yet? Her lyrics are about as meaningful as any Limp Bizkit song.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
