I'm in transit
But I'm stranded on this boat
And I pledge myself allegiance
To a better night's sleep at home

And the sweet, sweet sun's comin' down
Hard, the sun's comin' down
Hard, it burns the bones
So hold a hand for cover
Hold a hand for cover
Hold a hand for cover from harm

Talk don't change a thing
Oh, it's fadin' for ya
Words don't sink, they swims
Oh, it's fadin' for ya

Best
This mess we tried our best
For something we can do
While the angels walk with the lonely ones
In the cold rain and rescue you

And this fatal world's comin' down
Hard, walls comin' down
Hard, in all our homes
So hold a hand for cover
Hold a hand for cover
Hold a hand for cover from harm

Talk don't change a thing
Oh, it's fadin' for ya
Words don't sink, they swims
Oh, it's fadin' for ya

Talk don't change a thing
Oh, it's fadin' for ya
(I'm in transit)
Words don't sink, they swims
(Ah, sweet as a moment, be that it may)
Oh, it's fadin' for ya

Song Meaning:fader: a device for varying the volume of sound, the intensity of light, or the gain on a video or audio signal

A "fading" fader would be a fading control of stimuli, the things around you, or, more so, this world, the environment, and the conditions thereof. Hence, "this fable world's comin' down." Hold onto a hand because these cruel conditions are ahead, inevitable. This idea that we have (i.e. to say we are in control) is fading fast. As much as we talk about it, this talks floats along with us. They don't sink down into the depths and sod of Nature.

Also. jimcavs22 has good insight into a biographical understanding of this song that is think is important to note.

Song Meaning:This song is clearly written from the lead singer Dougy Mandagi as he is indonesian and the song is about boat people i mean stranded on a boat and in transit on their way to australia most probably and also terms like hold a hand from cover from harm?

"The angels walk with the lonely ones in the cold rain and rescue you". The devastating consequenses these people have to endure on these voyagers to escape poverty and a better life. Possibly the unfortunate ones who are ship wrecked some live some die.

"The suns coming down hard it burns the bones"? Well stuck on a boat in transit on the ocean you have nowhere else to go so you would probably get burnt by the sun?

The walls coming down hard in all our homes"? Well they dont have a home and its the boat? if they get ship wrecked then possibly thats everybodies home at the time?

These are the immediate things i thought of listening to this song, but hey even though you may think its wrong, its thinking outside the circle of it can mean anything its your interpretation but its also wrong to call this description wrong also cause i thought everybodies listing were quite true also.

Pretty interesting though isnt it :)

    ...............think about it

Song Meaning:I think this song is making a statement that mistakes happen, and it sucks when it happens.

I'm in transit (Bless this mess we tried)
Floating stranded on this boat (our best for something we can do)
And I pledge myself allegiance (While the angels walk with the lonely ones)
To a better night sleep at home (in the cold rain and rescue you)

--So in these verses, he talks about finding himself in misfortune and how he is powerless to do anything about it. But it's okay, because he plans to sleep it off at home or be eventually saved by angels, which could be friends or family.

And the sweet, sweet sun's comin' down (And the fable's world's coming down)
Hard, the sun's comin' down (hard, walls coming down)
Hard, it burns the bones (hard, in all our homes)
So hold a hand for cover
    Hold a hand for cover
Hold a hand for cover from harm

=What used to seem so magnificent, in these cases the sweet sun and the fable's world, is now hitting him where it hurts the most. The sun is burning his bones, and the walls are coming down in all 'our' homes. The sweet sun/fable's world has tricked him and enticed him to let his guard down. Now he's looking for a hand to hold for cover from harm, which seems pointless because the walls are coming down and the sun is coming down hard and the mistake already happened.

General Comment:I don't have a clue if this is right, but to me this song feels like summer and friendship and being young. The time of life we're you're "floating stranded" and not sure of who you are or who you want to be. The line "sweet, sweet sun's comin' down" is so euphoric, it reminds me of thinking "oh, fuck this" and forgetting all your troubles. Reminiscent of the "everything is going wrong, but we're so happy" lyric from the Wombats. The lyrics also make me think of friends sticking together through everything ("hold a hand for cover").

Just my possibly obscure take :)

General Comment:It's sounds a lot like it's saying don't beat yourself up if you can't accomplish everything you set out to do. so long as you are working towards it. you know doing more then just talking about it.

My Interpretation:This might be a really cheesy interpretation of this song, but I think this is a pretty simple one concerning relationships ending:

    [I'm in transit
But I'm stranded on this boat
    And I pledge myself allegiance
To a better night's sleep at home]

In between relationships, feeling stranded and lonely, but trying hard as possible to remain optimistic and happy (thus sleeping better at night).

[And the sweet, sweet sun's comin' down
    Hard, the sun's comin' down
    Hard, it burns the bones
So hold a hand for cover
    Hold a hand for cover
Hold a hand for cover from harm]

Now referring to how the relationship in question ended. The "sweet sun" that was the relationship came crashing down to nobody's surprise, so both both individuals are finding cover in other things (e.g. friends and other important people in their lives).

    [Talk don't change a thing
    Oh, it's fadin' for ya
    Words don't sink, they swims
    Oh, it's fadin' for ya]

Talking about the state of their relationship never changed anything. The words they say to each other in attempt to "fix" things never really sink into how they behave, so the relationship begins to decline in health and how they feel about each other "fades"

    [Bless
This mess we tried our best
    For something we can do
While the angels walk with the lonely ones
In the cold rain and rescue you]

The relationship is in shambles, but they tried their hardest to make it work. I think the author is trying to say that staying optimistic is the best thing now because "angels" will rescue the lonely eventually.

[And this fatal world's comin' down
    Hard, walls comin' down
    Hard, in all our homes
So hold a hand for cover
    Hold a hand for cover
Hold a hand for cover from harm]

Same as first pre-chorus: Relationship is falling apart so people are "taking cover".

I really like the lyrics of this song in this sense because they are very pragmatic. There are millions of songs that can be interpreted as being about relationships, and even more about relationships ending, but a large majority of them tend to be unrealistic and talk about how much one character loved another one and can't live anymore without them. Passionate, sure, but not especially true to life.
People get into relationships, they eventually fall apart, and people move on, that's what really happens most of the time, and this song seems to acknowledge that. Even more realistic is the fact that the chorus makes strong mention that a lot of the time talking about things doesn't solve the really pure problems that often lead to relationships ending. Most break ups involve plenty of talking about the state of the relationship beforehand, but despite everybody's best attempts to take talking to heart, they eventually don't change anything, and that's just how it goes sometimes.

Even better is that I don't really see this as a "sad" song, I see it as extremely optimistic. The song isn't trying to BS you into thinking people can always just have done things differently; sometimes relationships just end because people are too different or whatever, despite how much they may have been into each other.
A lot of "break up" songs (if you choose to see Fader as that) tend it inspire either remorse for the past or hope for a reconnection. This song seems to do neither, opting instead to inspire a respect for the past and optimism for an entirely different future.
