Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Uh-huh-huh, uh-huh-huh, uh-huh-huh

When something's dark, let me shed a little light on it
When something's cold, I wanna put a little fire on it
If something's old, I wanna put a bit of shine on it
When something's gone, I wanna fight to get it back again

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, fight to get it back again
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

When something's broke, I wanna put a little fixin' on it
If something's bored, I wanna put a little excited on it
If something's low, I wanna put a little high on it
If something's lost, I wanna fight to get it back again

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, fight to get it back again
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

When signals cross, I wanna put a little straight on it
If there's no love, I wanna try to love again

I'll say your prayers, I'll take your side
Oh, I'll find us a way to make light
I'll dig your grave, we'll dance and sing
What's saved us could be one last lifetime
Hey, hey, hey, hey

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, fight to get it back again
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Fight to get it back again, oh yeah, yeah, yeah
Fight to get it back again, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

General Comment:This is such a shitty song. What a bunch of sellouts appearing in a Target commercial.

General Comment:I don't get the hatred for this song, and album, from people like stpfan22. Honestly I'm sorry I share the Pearl Jam... and Stone Temple Pilots for that matter... fanbase with assholes like you. This isn't selling out, it's evolving musically. It's not a pop song. The whole album is very alternative, very modern hard rock. It's like Foo Fighters... but (no disrespect to the Foos, great band) better. It's jumpy and happy and punky. If you don't like it, get the fuck out :D

Backspacer is IMO a very strong album.

General Comment:With 23,000+ nuclear warheads in service currently around the globe... I can only hope we can (fight to!) get it back to ZERO again. It used to be more than 60,000 between the US and Russia.. ZERO is the number we need to strive for. However.. that's just unrealistic. But even 80% reduction of current piles would be amazing! One must understand physics... the more there are, the higher the probability. Every event that can happen, WILL happen. This is why we MUST disarm.

General Comment:the only thing worse than this song was the album in general... this song is pearl jam selling out... purposely making a commercial tune ( that failed ) and appearing on a target commercial.. WTF SELL OUTS

General Comment:I think the song is about a person who defines himself as a fighter and someone who never gives up. I think he also has a hard time letting things go or accepting things for the way they are, instead he tries to make things the best they can be. Reminds me of myself.

Memory:This song really hit home with me. After nearly a decade of angry, almost dower songs from Pearl Jam, Backspacer has a real feeling of optimism and hope within it. This song typifies that feeling, focusing on how the world can be saved. The rhythm section and guitar solo contribute to the hopefulness of this track, making this both a throwback to PJ's high energy beginnings and a step in a new area with a hopeful and inspiring tone, unlike many of their songs. Personally, having entered a new stage in my life, this song hit me at a perfect time, in which I feel that I have already rubbed a little fixing on my world.

Song Meaning:This song has a lot of possibilities. The meaning I get is that it's about someone who really loves someone and will do anything to make their life a little better. My wife has bipolar disorder and I see/hear myself saying or doing these things to "fix" whatever is causing the current episode. I fight for her, and with her, to get her back to center again.

General Comment:This song is an ode to customer service centers around the world and the people who work in them. Pearl Jam wanted to express their thanks to these people because we all rely on them to fix the things we buy when they stop working, and deal with customers who are frustrated and annoyed on a regular basis. This is really a tribute song and an anthem for everyone who works in customer service.

General Comment:This is indeed a great song from Eddie and the guys.

One definition of 'The Fixer' or 'A Fixer' comes from people who are familiar with Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon. The term is usually referring to the Non-Alcoholic person in the relationship who finds themself trying to fix things as a result of the alcholics actions or non-actions. They are known as 'The Fixers'. This is a term that I ironically found out about at my first Al-Anon meeting.

Yes, the songs is upbeat. Although, if you look at the last few lyrics in the song you can see that
Eddie could be referring to something a little more distressing:

    I'll dig your grave
    We'll dance and sing
    What's saved could be
    One last lifetime

Well, that's my '2 cents' worth. Hope it made sense.
