I'm not calling you a liar,
Just don't lie to me.
I'm not calling you a thief,
Just don't steal from me,
I'm not calling you a ghost,
Just stop haunting me,
And I love you so much,
I'm gonna let you,
Kill me.

There's a ghost in my lungs
And it sighs in my sleep,
Wraps itself around my tongue,
As it softly speaks
Then it walks, then it walks with my legs

To fall,
To fall,
To fall, at your feet.
Oh but for the grace of god go on,
And when you kiss me, I'm happy enough to die.

I'm not calling you a liar,
Just don't lie to me.
And I love you so much,
I'm gonna let you
I'm not calling you a thief,
Just don't,
And I love you so much,
I'm gonna let you,
Oh,
I'm not calling you a ghost,
Just don't

There's a ghost in my mouth
And it talks in my sleep,
Wraps itself around my tongue,
As it softly speaks
Then it walks, then it walks
Then it walks with my legs

To fall,
To fall,
To fall,
To fall,
To fall,
To fall, at your feet.
Oh but for the grace of god go on,
And when you kiss me, I'm happy enough

My Interpretation:So, I was listening to this song right now and I think the "ghost" she's talking about is her heart.

"There's a ghost in my lungs
And it sighs in my sleep,
    Wraps itself around my tongue,
    As it softly speaks
Then it walks, then it walks with my legs"

She's in love with this guy but her mind is telling her he's gonna lie to her or steal from her while her heart is convincing her that he's not a liar or thief. Although she's trying to get away from him and avoid the feelings she keeps being dragged in by her love for this man. Her heart is causing him to haunt her dreams. Her heart is speaking for her. Her heart is leading her back to him. Her heart is playing the part of a ghost.

General Comment:Love Florence and find her and her music very creative. But these lyrics are pathetic.

    General Comment:This is my interpretation-thing:

"I'm not calling you a liar,
    Just don't lie to me.
I'm not calling you a thief,
    Just don't steal from me,
I'm not calling you a ghost,
    Just stop haunting me,"

I'm not entirely sure about this part, really. It sounds rather like she's begging her lover to be kind to her; I think he has hurt her before several times in the past.

"And I love you so much,
    I'm gonna let you,
    Kill me."

This is saying that she loves him despite the fact that he is no good for her, that he'll wind up killing her in the end.

"There's a ghost in my lungs
And it sighs in my sleep,
    Wraps itself around my tongue,
    As it softly speaks
Then it walks, then it walks with my legsTo Fall,
    To Fall,
    To Fall, at your feet."

I think the ghost she's talking about is kind of like this love inside her, the love she has for the man, but she doesn't really want to love him because of the fact that he's hurting her, but she doesn't really have a choice. The "ghost" is controlling her, and taking her to him in a submissive kind of way ("to fall at your feet"). And I think the rest of the song just repeats this.

"And when you kiss me, I'm happy enough"

His occasional kindness and love is enough to make her stay with him, despite everything.

General Comment:The line after "To Fall, at your feet" should read "There but for the grace of god go I".

General Comment:I always thought it was 'let it waltz, let it waltz, let it waltz with my legs'
Seems kind of silly now, but I think I prefer it that way, anyway :)

My Interpretation:I think this song is about smoking and/or cigarettes. Think of it that way & read the lyrics again - makes total sense.

General Comment:to me the song is about still trying to get over an old ex
the line 'i'm not calling you a ghost but stop haunting me' says it all
than again i think interpretations of songs also says something about you

General Comment:I think she IS in love, but with someone who she KNOWS will lie to her, and emotionally steal from her. She KNOWS this will happen, but lets herself be taken by him anyway.

Sometimes you know what the outcome will be, and can't stop.

General Comment:To me this song is about her in denial about being in love slightly. And her telling him not to destroy her.

"I'm not calling you a liar, just don't lie to me"
her telling him that if he's going to tell her that he loves her, he best mean it.

"I'm not calling you a theif, just don't steal from me"
her asking him not to take her heart from her

"I'm not calling you a ghost, just stop haunting me"
she can't stop thinking about him

But because she loves him so much, she's going to give in and let him take over her? Though I'm sure it could be potrayed as an abusive relationship also!

My Interpretation:If I had to sum up the meaning of this song in a single sentence, I'd say this: the "ghost" is a metaphor for love.

If the song was originally called 'ghost', it's telling us that the "ghost" metaphor is what the song is really about.

The singer describes the ghost as follows: it's something that haunts her; it makes her sigh in her sleep (it's in her lungs) and it makes her say things she wouldn't normally say (it's wrapped around her tongue); it even makes her walk up to someone (it walks with her legs) and fall down at their feet.

If there is such a thing that makes her dream about someone, makes her happy enough to die when they kiss her, makes her sigh at night, makes her say and do things she wouldn't normally say or do, makes her fall down before someone -- if there is such a thing, it is love.
