The Way of Your World Lyrics
It's all been done before and
No one can listen to anyone's answers They're drifting farther everyday And they say We hold our hands to block the sun We blame the light for what we’ve done We look away so We’ll forget what We’ve become First take what you want Then you throw it away This is the way of their world Don't know what you've got Until it's taken away This is the way of your world When the night falls you know who you are And you cast reflections as the mirror gathers rust It’s so safe and lonely with you Lovers ripping in two Grind away till nothing’s left There’s nothing left inside First take what you want Then you throw it away This is the way of their world Don't know what you've got Until it's taken away This is the way of your world Your lives will fade before their time And you’ll never say goodbye The end of all the things you know And all of what you can be It’s fading fast before you |

- The second part of the first verse to me seems to be the truth about a lot of people. Few people out there have the answers to problems(world, family, love, etc.), yet they go unheard because they're no one special, and people believe nothing is original anymore. It also to me means that the answers are just so obvious, yet we'd rather just not take action to fix anything, and instead we should just point the fingers. Eventually, we just look away from what has grown into a Sh*t mess, which a lot of people tend to do. They let a problem grow out of control and just look away, because it's easier to do so.
also, this song seems to be about two people, lovers. breaking up. The CHORUS to me, the first part anyway "first take what you want and then you throw it away, this is the way of their world" seems to be his lover, who he generalizes as a group of people - who gets what they want, and discards it.
The second part "don't know what you got till it's taken away" - to me is It hits him like a brick, cause he didn't realize what he had until his lover discarded him.
This song could be about so many things. World problems, love, family, friends, maybe people in general..

"TWOYW- in GENERAL: A commentary on the unexamined life that many people
lead: replete with abdication of responsibility- and ultimately how the
writer (that's me) feels that this world is not his own (because although
I understand, I cannot relate).
In specific- the first lines are defeatist- the idea that even though the
"answers" have been around forever, no one cares enough to listen to them.
It goes on to reference Plato's Cave, with the idea that the denizens
blame knowledge for their unhappiness, and would rather live ignorant than
self aware and vigilant.
The chorus is pretty self explanatory- when you don't know what you are
and subsequently, what your purpose is, you never know what you really
want or need.
The second verse hits on the idea that even the most self deluded or
ignorant tend to have moments of clarity, and these often occur in the
night time, when no one is around to distract or impress- but even then,
projection on other people occurs.
Finally, the idea of a person with great internal conflict, and the
analogy of the feelings that people have in a dimming relationship (afraid
to end for need of safety but running out of the love that sustained it)
and how that drains energy and life. And the wasted potential of the self
aware human being resulting in a "death" before the body. The things we
want define who we are- so know who you are, and you can get what you
want!"
