  General Comment:I've been listening to these lines over and over lately and I can't help but think that this song is about the death of a family pet. The last line, "Entwining into his paws" makes me think he isn't talking about a person but a dog. The dog died and they took him to rest under a "railway sleeper", where the foliage begins to claim his body. Beautiful!

  General Comment:vincentedgar: I agree that the lyrics are vague, but not insubstantial. To me the song is about the physical transition back into nature, maybe by means of death. Not sure what the lot about the car is about, but:
  
  "His eyes were open
  But we were guessing he wasn't seeing straight out of them
  No, he didn't have to wait much longer"
  
  I hear this as a man who is about to die. His eyes are open, but he's in the process of dying, he's not seeing the world we see.
  
  "He'd go just after I left
  And now he's merging
  Under a railway sleeper
  With the ferns and the creeper roots
  Entwining into his paws"
  
  Merging could signify the transition from a living soul to a body--a mere collection of elements, then the ferns and roots enter as the earth reclaims his body. It's quite a beautiful song, like most of Bibio's it shines light on our intimate relationship with nature.

  My Opinion:i hate to say it, but these lyrics are insubstantial. they don't matter to the song at all.
