We are saints made of plaster, our laughter is canned,
We are demons that hide in the mirror.
But the blood on our hands paints a picture exceedingly clear.

We are brimming with cumbersome, murderous greed,
And malevolence deep and profound.
We do unspeakable deeds, does our wickedness know any bounds?

Something's gone terribly wrong with everyone,
All the world is mad.
Darkness brings terrible things, the sun is gone
What vanity! Our sad, wretched fires.

We can't medicate man to perfection again,
We can't legislate peace in our hearts.
We can't educate sin from our souls, it's been there from the start.

But the blind lead the blind into bottomless pits,
Still we smile and deny that we're cursed.
But of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst.

Oh, what little light we have!
It only serves to show
The snares and seeds of wrath
We have already sewn on every path.

The meaning of this song is pretty self-explanatory. Sounded pretty sick at the warped tour. Can't wait to hear the studio version

The record has already been leaked, =( Though I couldn't wait for it to come out the leaking of the record is still a saddening thing because it was incomplete and it is so beautiful already, so now that they are rushing to release the album to counteract the damage the leak will do to sales who knows what it could have been refined into?

Lyrically, this may be my favourite off of Beggars. This song sort of sets the theme for what the rest of the album is about, which is pretty straight-forward: the decline/corruption of mankind.

"But the blind lead the blind into bottomless pits, Still we smile and deny that we're cursed. But of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst."

    So good.

Can anyone else see the picture of America and the world of late? How about the "Church"...?

We've all forgotten our purpose, turned our thoughts and intentions inwards, and spit on the very thought of God and all that we don't understand of Him. All the while, we've figured out that Apes are our fathers and mothers, and sharks are our offspring.

Auhsoj3 says "this has to be some of the darkest music they have ever put out"

I say, this has to be some of the most honest music anyone has ever put out... Of all of our iniquities ignorance may be the worst...but it's bliss, right?

Listen to track 2...A bright light shines in the darkness to anyone who is willing to look, and listen.

But we all talk too much...

I think this song is about simply we have become so deeply corrupt and greedy that we cannot change what is done. We are doomed.

This song is essentially about the fall of man since Eden,

"But the blind lead the blind into bottomless pits, Still we smile and deny that we're cursed."

The former line being an adaptation of one of Jesus' shorter parables, and the latter a reference to the human race being cursed after Adam and Eve sinned, and the fact that we try to pretend everything's.

The gist of this song is summed up nicely by Psalm 14:3

"There is no one who does good, not even one."

The whole album is very much like the book of Ecclesiastes.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
