You've applied the pressure
To have me crystallized
And you've got the faith
That I could bring paradise

I'll forgive and forget
Before I'm paralyzed
Do I have to keep up the pace
To keep you satisfied

Things have gotten closer to the sun
And I've done things in small doses
So don't think that I'm pushing you away
When you're the one that I've kept closest

You don't move slow
Taking steps in my direction
The sound resounds, echo
Does it lesson your affection

You say I'm foolish
For pushing this aside
But burn down our home
I won't leave alive

Glaciers have melted to the sea
I wish the tide would take me over
I've been down on my knees
And you just keep on getting closer

Glaciers have melted to the sea
(Things have gotten closer to the sun)
I wish the tide would take me over
(And I've done things in small doses)
I've been down onto my knees
(So don't think that I'm pushing you away)
And you just keep on getting closer
(When you're the one that I've kept closest)
Go slow

General Comment:I see this song as a back and forth between a male and a female about starting a relationship with one another. I believe the first two stanzas best represent this. The man is realizing that he is feeling the pressure of his female love wanting more of him. She makes him think that he could bring her paradise if they were together. The female stanza has sexual hints but I believe it is more about the rapid pace of the development of their relationship that has brought them to this point. She isn't sure that she can continue on this fast and furious pace of love.

My Interpretation:I'm in love with this song.

After some time dwelling on the lyrics, for me, it feels like an internal discussion with a force/divinity/self identity... like the speaker is in the eternal process of refining and understanding what drives them to go on, admitting both good and bad. The pressure of "bringing paradise" and that, in the worst times, they are growing closer to what they believe as it is testing them most strenuously.

The voice gets closer to their own core as the harshness of life cuts them to the quick. Most importantly the voice realises that if they burn down their ideal, they will end themselves. When everything is at its worst, it's what we believe in that holds us together.

"Glaciers have melted to the sea
I wish the tide would take me over
I’ve been down on my knees
And you just keep on getting closer"

All in all it makes me feel both sad and hopeful.

General Comment:After reading everyones comments on the lyrics, I do agree with a lot of them. But on the other hand a song can mean something different to everyone. Thats the beauty of music, although lyrics do tell a story the way one depicts it is all up to them. The first time I heard this song the lyrics in the song that stood out to me were:

"I will forgive and forget before im paralyzed.
Do I have to keep up the pace to keep you satisfied."

"things have gotten closer to the sun, and i've done things in small doses so dont think im pushing you away when you're the one that i've held closest"

Maybe it was because i could relate to that part of the song the most but it automatically made me love it and think about
a girl, forgiving and forgetting cause the relationship isnt completely 'exclusive' and the two may be in a very casual back and forth, mostly sexual relationship. And does she have to keep up this strong nonchalant wall to keep him satisfied.

Basically a relationship mostely based on physical attraction/satisfaction that started off very slow at first. But through time feelings have progressed and it went from stricly sexual, to somewhat emotional. And although neither of them want to give in to those feelings cause they've been hurt before and now see feelings as a waste of time and dangerous they both see that it is unlike them to keep a partner around for so long so they know feelings exist for one another. but they never talk about it and put pressure on the feelings so they hopefully dissapear and 'crystalize' them. But even knowing that nothings lasts forever, they keep doing what they're doing and the feelings dont dissapear. Ending with the lyrics

"Glaciers have melted to the sea (Things have gotten closer to the sun)
I wish the tide would take me over (And I've done things in small doses)
I've been down onto my knees (So don't think that I'm pushing you away)
And you just keep on getting closer (When you're the one that I've kept closest)"

then reminding each other to keep going slow cause that's what has worked for so long.
I know im a little all over the place... but hopefully you get what im saying.

My Interpretation:Art involves metaphora so I guess any meaning is really in there...
I think the dialogue indicates it really is about the back and forth of a developing romantic relationsship as NakedRobot pointed out, or simply the afterglow of intercourse (go slow, go slow) but it includes Meth-symbolism to visualize the whole concept. So I doubt the song's about meth but it can't be coincidence these analogies (lol anal) are there about glaciers melting and the like.
    Peace out suckers

My Interpretation:I see this song as being very sexual.

    "You've applied the pressure
    To have me crystalised"
    You caused me an erection

    "And you've got the faith
    That I could bring paradise"
You trust me that I will make you come

I know, I am probably mistaken, but this is how I interpret the song.

General Comment:I doubt this song is about drugs or sex.... I could be wrong buuuut
Its probably about a couple that can't decide how their relationship should develop and grow. The chick wants to go slowly "Do I have to keep up the pace to keep you satisfied?" "You don't move slow in taking steps in my direction"(trust or commitment issues maybe?)
And the guy thinks differently but also wants to make her happy "Don't think that I'm pushing you away when you're the one that I've kept closest".

Also at "But burn down our home, I won't leave alive" I don't think that's what he is saying. I think he is saying "But not at all, I wanna live a lie". It fits into that verse and also the fact that he doesn't think they're moving fast at all and doesn't want to believe it;and even if he does he wants to pretend that everything is fine.

But when they start to sing together I think that is them finally talking it out and when they both finally say "Go Slow" that's them coming to an agreement-they're going to take things slow and not rush things for the better since they both were feeling the pressure.

They obviously love each other or else they wouldn't be having this issue. But that's just me and I've read other interpretations that were really good.

This song is crazy addictive though-Metal is usually my style but the moment I heard this song I knew that I HAD to have it. They both have beautiful singing voices-ones that you would want to have someone sing to you in if you were scared or nervous. The Xx = purely amazing music

its 2 people in love, struggling in the
world to survive, knowing full well the
key to survival is to stick togeather

General Comment:"What I call ‘crystallization’ is the operation of the mind that draws from all that presents itself the discovery that the loved object has some new perfections."
