There's a drumming noise inside my head
That starts when you're around
I swear that you could hear it
It makes such an all mighty sound
There's a drumming noise inside my head
That throws me to the ground
I swear that you should hear it
It makes such an all mighty sound
Louder than sirens
Louder than bells
Sweeter than heaven
And hotter than hell
I ran to a tower where the church bells chime
I hoped that they would clear my mind
They left a ringing in my ear
But that drum's still beating loud and clear
Louder than sirens
Louder than bells
Sweeter than heaven
And hotter than hell
Louder than sirens
Louder than bells
Sweeter than heaven
And hotter than hell
Louder than sirens
Louder than bells
Sweeter than heaven
And hotter than hell
As I move my feet towards your body
I can hear this beat it fills my head up
And gets louder and louder
It fills my head up and gets louder and louder
I run to the river and dive straight in
I pray that the water will drown out the din
But as the water fills my mouth
It couldn't wash the echoes out
But as the water fills my mouth
It couldn't wash the echoes out
I swallow the sound and it swallows me whole
'Til there's nothing left inside my soul
I'm as empty as that beating drum
But the sound has just begun
As I move my feet towards your body
I can hear this beat it fills my head up
And gets louder and louder
It fills my head up and gets louder and louder
There's a drumming noise inside my head
That starts when you're around
I swear that you could hear it
It makes such an all mighty sound
There's a drumming noise inside my head
That starts when you're around
I swear that you could hear it
It makes such an all mighty sound
Louder than sirens
Louder than bells
Sweeter than heaven
And hotter than hell
Louder than sirens

This doesn't really relate to me, but the line "I ran to a tower where the church bells chimed, I hoped that they could clear my mind" reminds me of someone who is religious and attracted to someone of the same gender and doesn't think it's right, and is trying to block out their feelings through religion. Then the line, "I run to the river and dive straight in, I pray that the water will drown out the din" is like trying to make yourself not be attracted to someone, but you can't "wash the echoes out."
"I swallow this sound and it swallows me whole
Till there's nothing left inside my soul,
I'm empty as that beating drum
But the sound has just begun."
Those lines pretty much describe how once I accepted that I liked this girl, it totally consumed me. She was all I thought about, until I wasn't even myself anymore. I was just a vessel, if that makes sense.
Well, that's just what the song means to me specifically. I hope someone else can relate :)
I just wanted to point out that Flo is too skilled of a songwriter for the very easy link of "louder than sirens" to sirens from Greek mythology not to have been intentional.
"I swear that you should hear it
It makes such an all mighty sound"
Your heart is beating so loudly you're shocked the other person can't hear it.
Or I guess it could be taken like the "Tell-Tale Heart", like guiltiness is eating her up and she swears others know her secret. Paranoia.
The guilty-murderer theory is still very interesting though.
And the thing about the Master is just legendary :)
