the nicest man i ever met
was more malicious than malcontent
yeah, he taught me how to hold my tongue
and wait to strike 'til their backs were turned
and you slither away like the snake that you are.
and you slither away like the snake that you are.
all i ever did was look up to you
and if all i ever did was let, let you down
ain't nothing stopping me now.
divinity spelt correctly beneath
the receding pride of his twenties
was capital m-e (i couldn't subscribe)
was capital m-e (but you can't say i didn't try)
you say what you want (maybe i didn't get my way)
so you say what you want (maybe i didn't get my way)
but i got, i got away.
all i ever did was look up to you
and if all i ever did was let, let you down
ain't nothing stopping me now.
was it everything you hoped for?
was it all of that and more?
too much too soon?
or too good to be true?
was it everything you hoped for?
was it all of that and more?
all i ever did was look up to you
and if all i ever did was let, let you down
ain't nothing stopping me now.

does this mean adam is referring to fred thinking so highly of himself that he almost views himself--godlike? i know it seems far off but i mean, thats the meaning of divine/divinity. and i almost get the vision of tombstone when i think of the lyrics...really far off possibly i have no idea. but when you read a tombstone you usually see things to be remembered by and then your name, and in fred's twenties, he worked with tbs but didn't really work for the band but instead, himself. THATS HOW I SEE IT. i mean im just building off of what everybody already knows. everyone already knows the song is about fred, but what i want to know is what the song refers to rather than whom. i want to know the literary content, so please stop saying its about fred: we know.
"the receding pride of his twenties

Capital m-e is just another way of saying "ME" correct?
"There were just problems between the five of us about writing, who was going to do it and how we were going to do it, we weren't being very productive because we were fighting too much about that stuff. The band was more about cooking food than making music."
Comments like these caused Adam to write Summer, Man and Capital M-E.
shame, I liked them together.
he could've at least been nice about it.
