Come on children
You're acting like children
Every generation thinks
Its the end of the world

And all ya fat followers
Get fit fast
Every generation thinks it's the last
Thinks its the end of the world

Yes dream down a well
There's a lone heavy hell
I don't care anymore
I don't care anymore
It's a feeling we transcend
If we're here at the end
I don't care anymore
I don't care anymore
You never know

Come on kids
You're acting like children
Act your age
Put back the black metals and pearls
All ya sword swallowers pull yourselves together
Every generation thinks its the worst
Thinks it's the end of the world

It's a secret I can't tell
There's a wish down a well
I don't care anymore
I don't care anymore
It's a long heavy hell
Super-size it by ten
I don't care anymore
I don't care anymore
You never know
You never know

It's a dear to transcend
Everyone here, at the end

I don't care anymore
I don't care anymore
I don't care anymore
I don't care anymore
You never know

General Comment:The riff in this song is a ripoff from My Sweet Lord. I believe this is intentional, and dripping with irony. Harrison was sued for plagiarism over similarities in that song and "He's So Fine".

    General Comment:black metals...could it be literal? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…

    pearls...could it be metaphorical? creativyst.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/os/…

I think it's about negativity and fear. Rediscovering the optimism of youth and putting away the mechanisms that breed fear.

General Comment:Knowing that Tweedy wrote this when he was in New Zealand working with Neil Finn on his 7 Worlds Collide project is interesting. These lyrics are very Finn-esque, especially the "lone heavy hell."

General Comment:It's funny how many people are claiming that this is a rip off of My Sweet Lord (I agree, btw), because I actually think it is also very similar of two Guided By Voices/Robert Pollard songs:

Check out "Love Is Stronger Than Witchcraft" for the verse of the song - youtube.com/…

Check out "Little Whirl" by Guided By Voices for the chorus - sorry, no link.

General Comment:I thought it was about the paranoia that every generation has gone through about the world ending, but it never has. It's about that and how people seem to be waiting for the end to come around.

General Comment:I could be way off but i get kind of a global warming feeling when i hear this song. Kind of like the analysts say its too late to stop it and its going cause a major flood, an end of the world type of thing. He saying "i don't care any more" just live i take the you never know part as against the analysts no one really knows whats going to happen global warming or not. like "every generation thinks their the worst thinks it's the end of the world" like weather it be nuclear destruction or world war 3 every generation thinks its the end of the world for different reasons you know? Ours would be global warming. "Super size it by 10" sounds like its a hit on America and our decadence. It may be sarcastic like maybe he's trying to say we should care. I'm not really sure just whenever i hear it i get a strong sense that it's about global warming, but hell what do i know.

    General Comment:oddhat you're a little off..

Come on kids(referring to adults but calling them kids because of their irresponsible ways)
You're acting like children (explaining why he's calling them kids)
Act your age(He's telling adults to grow up and quit being unkind, disrespectful, violent etc.)

    General Comment:I like the words:
    Come on kids
You're acting like children (that means, trying to look older than your age looks foolish)
Act your age (that means, be children, be naive, pure...)
Put back the black metals and pearls (again, return to the natural, leave piercing and tattoo etc...)

I agree with the message. And JT is not preaching, he is telling it with a loving smile.
It also connects to George Harrison who was sort of a symbol of flower generation.

General Comment:C'mon, it is an obvious Tom Petty rip off (Jammin Me). I agree that some riffs at the end are Harrisonesque. It also has a part reminiscent of the Beatles "Happy Just to Dance with You" - which was sung by Harrison, though written mainly by Lennon.
