I've been beaten down,
I've been kicked around.
But she takes it all for me.
And I lost my faith, in my darkest days.
She makes me want to believe.

They call her love, love, love, love, love.
They call her love, love, love, love, love.
She is love,
And she is all I need.
She's all I need.

Well I had my ways.
They were all in vain, 'n' she waited patiently.
It was all the same, all my pride and shame.
She put me on my feet.

They call her love, love, love, love, love.
They call her love, love, love, love, love.
They call her love, love, love, love, love.
She is love,
And she is all I need.
She is love,
And she is all I need.
She is love,
And she is all I need.

General Comment:Anderson explained this song to StarShine Magazine: "I was interested in someone at that point so of course I was trying to figure it out… but you know, it was most just a general song. I was trying to write a very simple love song and not really trying to be clever or find a cool angle. I think it definitely reflects what I was thinking at the time, which was that I needed something that I could sing in front of a room full of girls."
He added that the band makes it a point to sing about love, a subject that they feel everyone understands. "There's a bad side and a good side [to love] and I think that everyone experiences that. We're just trying to write songs that people can relate to and connect to in some way or another."

General Comment:i like the personification idea, but that's really how i view this song. It reminds me a lot of my current girlfriend, who also happens to be my best friends. My ex dumped me the friday before Valentines Day. On V-day my and my friend were both lonely...and so she came over. and she was there as i cried, and still couldn't understand what had happened. It was one of my darkest days (hint hint) and she made it better. she was a true friend that helped me through it. a few weeks later here we are, as a couple. She's why i didn't give up on relationships, she's patient and kind...and to me, she is love. that's what i think of, when i hear this song

General Comment:I agree with llGtPhshll. I like to think of this song as personification of love. Love is all he needs, etc.

General Comment:Well it could work and i can see it. Everybody has their own opinion and sees it as they want to.
I see it as a girl that took him away from his "darkest days."
I'm guessing a girl broke his heart hints "ive been beaten down" and
"I lost my faith, in my darkest days." I can relate and its amazing. Spot on.
and "she waited patiently" could refer to the girl who waited for him, who was there all along
this is how I see it, she is love and takes everything else away
therefore she is all he needs

and i think these lyrics are missing arguably the best part...

"and when that world slows down dear,
and when those stars burn out hear
she'll be there, ya she'll be there" - beautiful

General Comment:I almost think the song isn't about a girl, or a person, but maybe just about "love". I guess it could be seen thru either interpretation, but this seems to ring the most true for me, and it makes sense with the lyrics. Why they'd refer to love as a "her" is anyones guess.

"She is love, and she is all I need" - love is all he needs, simple enough ?

General Comment:Excellent song. Its such an odd phrase to express his love-they call her love, but its so cool. The singing during the chorus is epecially good. And that's really what its all about, just expressing his love for a girl even though they've had problems.
