  General Comment:Verse 1:
  First the song says: "Sometimes I lay/ under the moon," meaning the artist, Matisyahu, lays down at night before he goes to sleep. This line doesn't have to necessarily mean he is laying right under the moon, but rather it is just nighttime. Next it says: "And thank God I'm breathing." In this line he is telling God that he is so thankful to be alive. Next the song says: "Then I pray/ Don't take me soon/ Cause I'm here for a reason." In this line he is asking God to keep him here on earth because he feels he has a purpose that he needs to accomplish.

  I think these four four lines really hit me in this song. We never realize how truly blessed we are to be alive. We are all hear for a reason, we wouldn't have been put here if God didn't want us to. We pray to God don't take me soon because we all want to live a long happy life on earth. Even if our job is flipping burgers at a fast food resturant, we are all here for a reason, so God don't take us soon.

    sure, it's about our connection the Divine, in whichever form or fashion each individual perceives Him/Her... more than that though, this song is about is about keeping alive hope in our hearts, that someday the infinite love we receive from God/the Source will be outwardly reflected in all of humanity.
    
    "one day this all will change, treat people the same, stop with the violence, down with the hate, one day we'll all be free, and proud to be under the same sun, singing songs of freedom..."
    
    and of course, this requires a setting aside of dogmatic conviction, regardless of its manifestation, in favor of a more accepting and loving approach to our fellow men and women. all beliefs are respected equally, the only essential connecting thread between All of Us being love. because only when love explodes in our hearts collectively can we transcend our differences to allow each person to be exactly who they are.

  General Comment:In the first verse when he say "Sometimes I lay under the moon/and thanks God im breathing" I think he actually means he takes time in the morning and at night to pray to God for giving him a chance to see another day. He is very grateful for what he has. When he says "then i pray/don't take me soon/I'm here for a reason" I think he means during his prayer he asks God for forgivness for everything that he has done and he asks to let God to let him see another day. He tells God that he is here for a reason and purpose and to let him live his life to the fullest. When he says "sometimes in my tears i drown" I think he means he is thinking about the sad things in his life and there are soo many that if he was crying there would be a rediculous amount of tears. When he says "but i never let it get me down" he starts to think of the happy things in life and doesnt concentrate on all the bad things that are in his life. and then he says " so when negativity surrounds/ i know one day it will all turn around' he means when negative things are happening in his life that he knows there will be happy days and that one day he will live life like he dreams and once agin he doesnt concentrate on the bad things.

    ahh, this song transcends the concept of an individual's life being of utmost importance to the encompassing concept of the individual as part of the larger collective of humanity. and that the hope that this will come to be someday is integral to the eventual manifestation of true peace on earth:
    
    "All my life I've been waiting for
    I've been praying for
    For the people to say
    That we don't wanna fight no more
    They'll be no more wars
    And our children will play..."
    
    so yes, it's a message of hope and optimism on the individual level... but the whole point is that in order for each person to truly be free, we must all be free together :) and love for each other, no matter what, is the key to manifesting this dream into reality.

  Song Meaning:I happen to be a Hassidic Jew (like Matisyahu) and happen to know that this song is right out out the teachings of Hassidic Jewdaism. The basic theme of the song is the fundamental of it's teachings, and the Rebbes' most majorly emphasized point, the anticipation of the Messianic era when the world will be a freer, happier, safer place to live. This actually is one of 13 fundamentals of Jewdaism in general, not only of Hassidic Jewdaism.

    Thanks for sharing this. I think this tenet of Judaism is one of the noblest religious teachings there are. What I like even more about Hassidic Judaism as well as other types of Judaism is the emphasis on mitzvahs or good deeds to make the world as good a place as possible until the Messianic age comes. I believe all true and noble religions promote mitzvahs like this. As a result, I say kudos to any person practicing there religion in a compassionate and just way, including Hassidic Jews.

    Christianity was originally created by a Jew from the jewish faith so if u think this looks like christinanity I'll have u know that it is from Jewdaism written and sung by a Jew who is not a reincarnation of Jesus but a follower and believer in G-d

    missmalky should perhaps meditate on the underlying message of this song, as Matisyahu's whole point was that true freedom lies not in being right but in unconditional love for everyone.
    
    and judgment as to who is or isn't a true follower/believer is definitely not the way.

  General Comment:This song is obviously about war(s) and the affect they have on the world. That is what i love about Matis, not only can he produce awesome rhythms, but his lyrics really have truth in them. Who knows, maybe there will be a day when there will be no such thing as war.
