Gravity,
Teach me the ways of retaliation
I'd like every backbiter to know what audience is always priority, rather than the stage.
It all comes down to this
Look elsewhere for books of narcissism.
Pride is a trend that is far past swollen.
Death through windows
No longer can I live a life of no control
These stories we've been writing are water thin
It's disheartening because I know that we are capable of vision.
Blemishes are warning so simply concentrate and apple pressure
And its branches will be broken
The city to be punished
So many never listen
And I drown in disgust
When will you ever remember?
When will you realize (that) false statements fall to the feet of dead gods?
False statements fall to the feet of dead gods?
Teach me the ways of retaliation

But The Devil Wears Prada is one of my favorite bands, how does that work? because Mike's a smart dude.
He's not your typical "blindly follow a major religion" christian. Yes he is poking fun at Scientology, but its bigger than that. To me he's poking fun at religion in general, saying that people follow it like a fad. People give up the right to think for themselves when they follow a religion in this way. Mike is even angry about Christianity, as the majority of Christians are "caught up in the numbers" as he states in Sassafras.
Yea Mike is a Christian and he believes in Jesus, but he is in it for the real reasons, the reason of love and forgiveness. When it all comes down to it, every religion has the same core values, but for me, I can respect those values without having to believe in a man in the sky.
Sorry if I offended anyone I know most of the people in this thread are Christians. Thought it would be good for you guys to here the view point from an Atheist who still loves The Devil Wears Prada. Seen this band seven times now, and I scream every fucking word with Mike.
So many never listen!
And I drown in disgust.

"False statements fall to the feet of dead gods"
My interpretation of this is that if your lie(making a false statement) it falls to the feet of dead gods, which is downright paganism. This is a very general and blanketing statement because it can apply to many many things. If we are applying this to scientolgy, he is saying that by practicing and preaching scientolgy, it is all false and it is basically pagan, which is punishable by god. I also believe he is making a general statement to anyone and everyone(and society as a whole)especially the artificial christians that mike frequently targets, if you lie and make false statements, you are sinning, you are going against the word of god, and your words will not be heard by the real god, but by "dead gods".
There are definitely jabs at scientolgy but i think it is a diagnosis of society as a whole and the way most people have gotten away from "the roots", most christians included. Society has become very self-centered and self-interested, thus "pride is a trend that is far past swollen". He believes people can do better,"its disheartening because i know that we are capable of vision", and if we all went back to the roots the world would be a better place. That is what really makes a person. All things aesthetic and all possessions of luxury and fashion etc will not save you and they will not make you, they are just the branches and the roots are the soul, "and its branches will be broken."
and he wants gravity to teach him the ways of retaliation so he can bring everyone with their heads in the clouds in the branches back down to earth. back down to the roots.
ive been trying to understand "death through windows" for a while so if anyone has ideas id like to hear them

I was wondering why the reference to Scientology in the title, so hopefully Deatha is right also.
I think the song is about the lead singer saying that in the end, they are up on the stage for one reason; to spread the message of God. Not be preachy or anything, but none the less spread the message to whoever will listen. They are not on the stage to make tons of money, become stars, etc. I remember an interview I saw when the band members said that "they are doing music to praise God for the talent He gave them as well as reach out to people".
The song then progresses about how the history of story telling (music) has become full of pride, narcissism, etc. from the world's POV, but the story from Jesus and DWP will not have any of that. It offers love, hope, etc.; things that are not as prevalent in the world.
