Isn't it lovely, when the dawn brings the dew?
I'll be watching over you
Isn't it lovely, when the dawn brings the dew?
I'll be watching over you

Goodnight my sweetheart
Until we leave tonight
Hold me in your arms
Wish me some luck as you wave goodbye to me

You're the best friends I ever had
Goodnight, sleep tight
Goodnight, God bless
Goodnight, nos da
I'll try my best

Isn't it lovely, when the dawn brings the dew?
I'll be watching over you
Isn't it lovely, when the dawn brings the dew
I'll be watching over you

I will be waiting all my cares are for you
Dreams they leave and die
I'm just gonna close my eyes, think about my family
And shed a little tear

Goodnight, sleep tight
Goodnight, God bless
Goodnight, nos da,
I'll try my best

Isn't it lovely, when the dawn brings the dew?
I'll be watching over you
Isn't it lovely, when the dawn brings the dew?
I'll be watching over you

Leave me, go Jesus
I love you, yeah I love you
Just let me go
I even love the devil
For yes he did me harm
To keep me any longer
'cause I'm really tired
I'd love to go to sleep and wake up happy
Yeah I'm really tired
I'd love to go to sleep and wake up happy,
Wake up happy.

Hard not to read this as Richey's suicide note.

I'm surprised that I like this song as much as I do considering I don't particularly like Nicky's voice.

The song does blatantly read like a suicide letter which does make me question my opinion that Richey didn't commit suicide. Oh well, a beautiful song nonetheless.

Has to be one of the saddest songs I've ever heard but still beautiful. I do agree that Nicky doesn't have the greatest voice in the world to say the least but you can clearly hear the emotion in his voice and that counts for a lot.

    My Opinion

i love this song, nicky's voice is pretty crap but i don't think it would have been the same with james, nicky makes it sound so naive and innocent.

this could be considered as a kind of suicide note esp. after editing

BUT something that seems quite weird is the first line of bag lady (the hidden track) annoucing very clearly I AM NOT DEAD!!! just a bit strange i think... probs coincidence

Nicky edited down the lyrics to a way where there’s no other way to view them but as a goodbye or suicide note. I find that very odd since the Manics have gone out of their way to dispel the belief that Richey committed suicide after abandoning his car. Or maybe with close to 15 years gone they now accept the belief?

But in the context of seeing the entire piece, it is clearly not about Richey. It is about an old man on his death bed having one of his final conversations with an old friend. The piece is very long and Nicky used very little of it, using only a few lines from “William” and completely editing out the other end of the conversation from his friend.

But much like Elliott Smith or Kurt Cobain’s last songs, due to the fate of the writer, it’s almost impossible to not view them as a statement of intent. Even though they’re more than likely just misinterpreted character pieces. It’s not like their work wasn’t bleak before their inner-turmoil got too much. By the time they all made their final decisions, writing was probably the last thing they cared about.

In its edited-down state, I agree, but not when you see the prose they picked it out of...

It is a heart-wrenching song. I can't wait to read the un-edited version of the song in the booklet though. In all honesty though, this is the only song I skip in the album! I know thats really harsh but I just don't click with Nicky's voice. I think it's scratchy and uncomfortable to listen to. They could of at least made it a duet.

Yeh, the bit after is weird... not in the lyrics book or anything, completely freaked me out when it came on and I wasn't expecting it.

I just presume it's something the Manic's have written on the end of it, as a kind of tribute to Richie... I can't make sense of much of the lyrics though, anyone able to post them here?

Never mind... didn't realise they were already posted elsewhere on here... still can't make any sense of it though!

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
