maybe even metaphors for the 'paths traveled together' in relationships (take hold of my arm at the elbow and we'll go, baby stay with me until we can't see no more)
maybe that's just what I'd like it to mean, but that's the way I see this song.
Anyways, I think this song is about two lovers that maybe are fading as far as their romance goes or they just aren't compatible with each other. I don't really know though.
