I crossed the river
Fell into the sea
Where the non-believers
Go beyond belief
Then I scratched the surface
In the mouth of hell
Running out of service
In the blood I fell

[Chorus]
Well I - I just want to see the light
And I - I don't want to lose my sight
Well I - I just want to see the light
And I need to know what's worth the fight

I've been wasted
Pills and alcohol
I've been chasing
Down the pool halls
Then I drank the water
From a hurricane
And I set a fire
Just to see the flame

[Chorus]

I crossed the desert
Reaching higher ground
Then I pound the pavement
To take the liars down
But it's gone forever
But never too late
Where the ever-after
Is in the hands of fate

[Chorus]

General Comment:does anyone else notice how the outro of this song is the intro to 21st century breakdown?

General Comment:I like how American Eulogy and See The Light have almost the same beginnings as Song Of The Century and 21st Century Breakdown, because in SOTC and 21CB it shows the setting of the story and prepares you for all the songs coming after it. In AE and STL it shows how all of the mayhem has begun to rest and wraps up the story in the same sense the first two songs began it.

maryhadalittlelamb, hope that explains at least the last two songs in Act III.

now i need help figuring out HAH and Static Age

General Comment:This whole time they've been fighting hatred, religious propaganda, intolerance, and general fucked-upped-ness. And I see it as Christian kneeling after a long journey and asking for an answer- has it been worth it?

General Comment:Christian agrees to listen to his own radio, and to let Gloria listen to her own. Now Gloria can hear her own music and she feels more like herself again. She loves Christian very much, and would do anything for him.

Anyone else think that's a metaphor for Katrina?

General Comment:I watched Billie Joe talk about this song on a video, and I think, if I remember, he said it was about someone trying not to lose their faith, especially concerning religious views. How it seems there is nothing to believe in.

General Comment:It almost seems like Christian took his shot at taking down the 'liars' but missed and now he's waiting for another chance.

General Comment:He's talking about losing hope when you no longer have the illusion of a prize ahead of you, particularly in Christian and Gloria's case, because their original drive was a prize that never existed(promised by the "liars" he despises now and seeks to destroy). It's a beautiful rendition of a very real point of view, of anyone once bound in religious brainwashing. He still believes there's hope, he just wants a glimpse of it. Brilliant song.
