(Uuuh, uuuh uuuh uuh)
Born into Nixon, I was raised in hell
A welfare child where the teamsters dwelled
The last one born and the first one to run
My town was blind from refinery sun
My generation is zero
I never made it as a working class hero
21st century breakdown
I once was lost but never was found
I think I'm losing what's left of my mind
To the 20th century deadline
(Uuuh, uuuh uuuh uuh)
I was made of poison and blood
Condemnation is what I understood
Video games of the Tower's fall
Homeland security could kill us all
My generation is zero
I never made it as a working class hero
21st century breakdown
I once was lost but never was found
I think I'm losing what's left of my mind
To the 20th century deadline
We are the class of the class of thirteen
Born in the era of humility
We are the desperate in the decline
Raised by the bastards of 1969
My name is no one, the long lost son
Born on the fourth of July
Raised in the era of heroes and cons
That left me for dead or alive
I am a nation, a worker of pride (pride)
My debt to the status quo
The scars on my hands and the means to an end
It's all that I have to show
(Hey)
(Hey)
(Hey)
I swallowed my pride and I choked on my faith
I've given my heart and my soul
I've broken my fingers and lied through my teeth
The pillar of damage control
I've been to the edge and I've thrown the bouquet (hey)
Of flowers left over the grave
I sat in the waiting room, wasting my time
And waiting for judgement day
Praise liberty
The freedom to obey
It's the song that strangles me
Well, don't cross the line
Oh, dream, America, dream
I can't even sleep
From the light's early dawn
Oh, scream, America, scream
Believe what you see
From heroes and cons

Sorry... this CD sounds like the same old tune.
I swear, this band is so absurd. I find it funny how they preach against america, about corrupt polotics and the EVIIIIILLLLLL of war-- and how the people with power do nothing but feed on the demoralization and fear of the masses. This entire CD mocks americans as idiots and fools, and insults us yet kids these days eat it up like candy. It's really something.
But the most absurd thing is how the band is entirely made up of hypocrits. The people with the power and the money who are able to make changes-- BIG changes-- do nothing but make stupid CDs to induce mass paranoia. When was the last time Greenday wrote to congress or donated money to a choral program? The regular joe blow can't speak up because he can't LOSE his job-- most americans live paycheck to paycheck, work to pay of their student loans and try, TRY, to support their families on the crap wages they earn on their 9-5. What does green day do? Make their shitty songs, with their uneblievably dull musical structure and dynamics, take your money from your albums and buys nice houses and cars. What do they do?
They make me sick and this entire CD is nothing but a joke. Feel free to disagree-- it just shows how uneducated children are and how impressionable our teenage and young adult youth, truly is.
Yes, ANYONE who disgrees with your grammatically poor post is OBVIOUSLY and idiot (Sarcasm)

Though I actually do agree with a lot of what you said, it's just that it's a really cheap move to say that anyone who disagrees with you is part of the ignorance.
Like the other post, I do partly agree with what you said.
However I think there is a lost more to this album than the narrow minded view you described.
21 Guns for instance is not mocking America, it is just an anti-war song and See The Light, along with the introduction to the album are about hope for the new administration in my opinion.
So while you have some valid points, I think you just scratched the surface.

Anyway I think the new album is fantastic, certainly worth every cent.
wow... what i replied to tuxedo applies to you as well

but in all fairness i got as far as "the eviiiiiilllll of war" and had to stop reading your nonsense...

EVIIIIILLLLLL of war? I mean people pulling out other people's finger nails and blowing each other people up isn't EVIIIIILLLLLL? killing people over there culture's isn't EVIIIIILLLLLL... you right ring assholes, i mean "pro-americans" are idiots... maybe its time to be a little anti-american? maybe people are tired of the current state of affairs and they're not just being brain washed by Green Day...LMAO

well i just had to make a comment, you silly people make me sad....lol
SORRY but you say that all day they do is make "shitty CDs" and ont "donate". For you information, they do a lot more than make music. Billie Joe helped build homes for people who had lost them in the New Orleans flood. And I'm pretty sure thats not all he's done, and Green Day dont have the power to make that big a change, none of them are the president for fucks sake =/

Yeha they dont speak up at all? Green Day do nothing but speak up...

& excuse them for making money out of something they love to do. they're not going round to record companies like "hey give me a million dollars!" they work as well. yeah not the usual 9-5 job and maybe its not as shitty as a 9-5 job but some people follow their dreams more than others and turn out better. thats life. we cant have it all good, can we?
Well it looks like youre the hypocrite. They don't speak up? Then what is this album about? Both this and American Idiot are about being against war and the politics of America so how is that not speaking up? Believe it or not they do a lot for charity. And yeah, I agree that people with that much fame should use their power to speak for the people who can't. But seeing as how they are muscians, what better way to do that than by making music about it? They're just saying what a lot of other people think.
I don't know if they write to Congress, but they do have ties to environmental causes, including the National Resources Defense Council and spoke out against our petroleum dependence and saying that more nuclear plants are not the solution to our energy problem. The NRDC also speaks out for habitat destruction, global warming, rainforest harvesting, etc. So, as far as not being socially active...guess that's out the window.

And if you want to get real picky, every word of American Idiot and a good chunk of the Breakdown album is an act of defiance in itself by questioning our government and corporation and their self righteousness and self importance. Heck, when American Idiot came out, patriotism was at a premium, and speaking against the president and the government horrified many radio stations and they wouldn't play American Idiot.
While I would agree with you that the anti George Bush sentiment is an exceptionally tired entertainment cliche, it could be argued that Billie Joe Armstrong being an active member of a political party (Libertarian) would count as the political action you were talking about.

You do need someone in your society to critisize it or else it's fucked up. See a multitude of oppressive reigimes from China to Iran where people can't critisize the reigime.

Also puting yourself above the people who disagree with you not only makes you a pretentious prick, 9/10 times it means you are quite clearly wrong because you cannot rely on your own argument.

All in all, I'd say go fuck yourself but you seem to be already doing that.
WE ARE IDIOTS! WE ARE FOOLS! WE FOLLOW WHATEVER THE MEDIA PRESENTS AND WE WORSHIP IT. HENCE GREENDAY'S SONG AMERICAN EULOGY AMERICA IS IN HYSTERIA, AND POLITICS DON'T GIVE A FLYING &*()$ ABOUT US. AND LIKE YOU KNOW HOW YOUTH SEE OUR COUNTRY. WE ACTUALLY SEE THE LIES THAT ARE SPREAD AND THE DAMAGE THEY CAUSE WHILE EGOTASTIC DUMB ASSES CAN'T. + WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY WRITE A LETTER TO CONGRESS?!!?!?!? ANSWER THAT. ITS POINTLESS, THEY WOULD THROW IT AWAY LIKE ANY OTHER SUGGESTION OR MATTER INVOLVING WORK.
war, whether fighting for a just cause or not is evil. killing is evil
Everyone has different skills and talents to change the world; Green Day is using their talent as a band to not only make entertaining songs, but try to show people what is right and wrong with the world. What is wrong with that? Absolutely nothing. I say good for them.!
