Been gone too long,
Don't make me beg
They'll try, they'll try, they'll try,
To keep us apart
They'll try, they all try,
To keep us apart (just in case)
You brought us this far
We'll do what we can
Don't put me on, don't make me beg
They'll try, they'll try, they'll try,
To keep us apart
You'll try, you'll try, you'll try,
To keep us apart (with what we can)
You brought us this far
We'll do what we can
Don't make me beg
They'll try, they'll try, they'll try,
To keep us apart
They'll try, they all try,
To keep us apart (just in case)
You brought us this far
We'll do what we can
Don't put me on, don't make me beg
They'll try, they'll try, they'll try,
To keep us apart
You'll try, you'll try, you'll try,
To keep us apart (with what we can)
You brought us this far
We'll do what we can

Or it could just be. About breaking up.
The strings are kind of eerie. I fuckin love it. Then they subtlely incorporate horns. Like wtf!
Seems like its about a relationship where the ones involved feel like the world doesn't want them to be together(kinda like a me against the world mentality)...just my opinion.
I'd say the best off of Veckatimest.
It's an insecure, negative, harmful love being portrayed here; the kind of love present in abusive relationships. Examine the lines "Been gone too long" or "Don't put me on / Don't make me beg." Doesn't this instill the image of a hateful relationship, made all the more terrifying by the fact that the two in the relationship live together and hence the title?
There's really no need to read into what's between the lines; it's all here. Jealousy can drive a person mad and inhibit rational thought, hence the lines "They'll try / They'll try to keep us apart" and the astoundingly accusatory "You'll try / You'll try to keep us apart." It's damn creepy how the speaker shifts the target of his rage onto his partner, accusing him/her of trying to break up their relationship. It's creepy, tense, and unsettling, and it gets the point across really well.
"You brought us this far
We’ll do what we can"
saying our parents did the best they could, and now it's up to us to shape the world.
"They’ll try
To keep us apart"
saying how degeneracy, and the fact that our economy runs best on our generations self-conciousness and destructive tendencies (as well as our fathers, i guess), is keeping us apart from the customs and traditions of our fathers.
i think Deep Blue Sea touches on it too.
the lyricist doesn't want our parent's generation to leave, because he's afraid of how we might not be able to stop our downward trajectory.
or i might be way wrong. that's just how i see it.
