Lyrics from the Two Suns album lyrics booklet....

Daniel, when I first saw you
I knew that you had
A flame in your heart
And under wild blue skies
Marble movie skies
I found a home in your eyes
We would never be apart

And when the fires came
The smell of cinders and rain
Perfumed almost everything
We laughed and laughed and laughed
And in a golden-blue car
You took me to
The darkest place you knew
And set fire to my heart

When I run in the dark (Daniel)
Into a place that's lost (Daniel)
Under a sheet of rain in my heart (Daniel)
I dream of home...

But in a goodbye bed
With my arms around your neck
Into our mouths the tears crept
Just kids in the eye of the storm
And as my house spun round
My dreams pulled me from the ground
Forever to search for the flame
For home again!
For home again!

General Comment:I've submitted the following edits based on what I heard repeatedly through headphones. I swear these are the lines:

    Marble movie skies
    We'd never be apart
And in the gold and blue
And set fire to my heart
And as my house spun round
Forever to search for the flame

General Comment:Ralph Macchio in the Karate Kid was my first crush too. I saw the Karate Kid on my 11th birthday and prior to that I had NO interest in boys but Daniel Larusso awakened feelings in me that were never there before. Television and movies create unrealistic expectations for love and it is depressing as hell when you realize these will never be fulfilled. I believe this is what the singer/writer is alluding to.

Lyric Correction:"marlboro ruby skies"? absolutely not. pretty sure it's "marble moody skies", or even "marble movie skies", given the reference to karate kid and....

    But in a goodbye bed
With my arms around your neck
Into our mouths our tears crept
Just kids in the eye of the storm
And as the house spun round
My dreams pulled me from the ground
Forever to search for the faith
    For home again
    For home again

this is definitely a wizard of oz reference, to when dorothy passed out in bed, the storm passed over her house, spun it around, and lifted it off of the ground, transporting her to a dream land where she had to search for home.

General Comment:In this song, the narrator has a crush on the fictional character Daniel Larusso. She watches The Karate Kid one summer, (wild blue skies) and falls in love with him, or the idea of him.
The "fires" might be her desire to be with him, and she has a dream that he takes her somewhere in a car and makes love to her.
"When I run in the dark" is escaping into her imaginary world to be with him.
She is lying awake one night and realizes that he isn't real, and she can't have him ("Goodbye bed") and feels lost and disconnected ("just kids in the eye of the storm")
And she decides that she needs to keep searching for that "flame" that Daniel had, but in a real person. Basically, she starts looking for her real-life Daniel, and that feeling of this person you love being your home.

Beautiful, beautiful song. Everybody deserves a Daniel.

My Interpretation:I agree that this song seems to be about first love that was lost but at a slightly different angle.
I feel like, obviously this song is about her first crush/love Daniel Larusso. But of course, he wasn't real. She didn't personally know him, but in admiring from afar, he felt like "home" to her, like she knew his soul. I feel like this song is about trying to find the real version of Daniel in someone else. Like in the last verse with the "goodbye bed", it seems like she's saying goodbye to the unrealistic crush she has on this fictional persona and is realizing she needs to find someone in the real world to love.
"Just kids in the eye of the storm
And as my head spun 'round
My dreams pulled me from the ground
Forever to search for the flame
    For home again
    For home again"
So she realizes that her idealistic crush on this celebrity was childish but now she seems determined to find someone in her own life that reminds her of the soul and "fire" that first attracted her. This can be attributed to everyone's first love because I feel like after that person (if you ended it when you didn't want to) is the person you compare every love/crush afterwards to and it is the hardest battle to give up looking for the perfect replacement. She describes it so beautifully by comparing it to a child crush. The lyrics and music are so haunting and dreamlike. I want to live in this song.

General Comment:This song transports me to the 80s and to when synth and voices were still clear and audible. It really is nothing like anyone today and could easily be from that time. I think that she has a great future in music if she can keep up this originality. The entire melody and how she sings it is so unaffected and is perfect pop! In my opinion, this song should have had more coverage and should be bigger...I just stumbled across it and now I am a fan! Thanks Natasha and BFL!

General Comment:the "flame" in his heart is that which captured her attention or love
she found a home in his eyes meaning fell in love

in the first para she talks about summer with wild blue skies

in the second para she talks about atumn and forest fire season
when he took her in a blue car to make love somewhere or confess deepest secrets or desires or they came close in some inseprable way (set fire to her heart with his "flame")

now she lets out her feelings about the breakup

she runs in the dark depression with vast empty emotional space under a sheet of
rain in my heart which is dousing the flame he set there

now presumably they are breaking up cause of some reason out of both their controls. so they cry together in the face of some impending crisis . eye of the storm signifying the calm while they are in it while it rages around them

now the house spins around an allusion to the wizard of oz and shes lost him like something solid in her life like a man represented by the ground

now she searches for the "flame" of his heart again and for the home she lost with him

she then talks about her depression again
