Lyrics for 21st Century Breakdown (Demo) as interpreted by kittyhudson

21st Century Breakdown (Demo) Lyrics
Born into Nixon, I was raised in hell
A welfare child where the teamsters dwelled
The last one born and the first one to run
My town was blind from refinery sun.

My generation is zero
I never made it as a working class hero
21st century breakdown
I once was lost but never was found
I think I'm losing what's left of my mind
to the 20th century deadline

I was made of poison and blood
Combination is what I understood
From Mexico to the Berlin Wall
Homeland security could kill us all

We are the cries of the class of '13
born in the year of humility
we are the desperate in the decline
raised by the bastards of 1969

My name is 'No one' your long lost son
born on the 4th of July
Raised in the barnyards of heroes and cons
left me for dead or alive

There is a war that's inside my head
that questions the results and lies
I'm breaking my back till I'm better off dead
When enough ain't enough to survive

I am an agent, a worker, a pawn
my debt to the status quo
The scars on my hands and a means to an end
it's all that I have to show

I'm taking a loan on my sanity
for the redemption of my soul
well I am exempt from this tragedy
and the 21st century fall

I praise liberty
the freedom to obey
It's a song that strangles me
well don't cross the line

Oh, dream, American dream
I can't even sleep
from rainstorms till dawn
Oh, bleed, America, bleed
Believe what you read
from heroes and cons..

Suggestion: Dont take "political" lyrics seriously from a highschool dropout.

From what ive heard The instrumentals on this album are great, the lyrics...awful.

From what I've heard so far, I agree with you Nac2045.

The instrumentals sound pretty good. The vocals seem typical-Green Day. This album, to me, just seems like an extension of American Idiot. Which isn't a bad thing. I was just hoping they could whine about something else for this new album. Ah well. I'm still a die-hard Green Day fan.

This song serves well as an introduction into another album based on a socio-political commentary of the youth, as well as the people who should be taking the power into their own hands, instead of drinking the "poison" the "bastards of 1969." Its an attack on the ideals of the previous generation and this generation for failing to man up and change things; a call to arms, so to speak.
"My generation is zero
I never made it as a working class hero."
In a nutshell: the old American dream is dead, what is the next generation going to do?
Hope the rest of the album provokes as much discourse as this song did. Also, the music has improved: Butch Vig is a genious.

First off.
This song is about Kurdt Kobain growing up learning guitar and partying in a logging town where pretty much everyone does some kind of labor for a living, which is kind of what kurts dad wanted, but didnt get out of him
Oh yea, and, ummm am i the only one who actually listend to the song and noticed that these are not the right lyrics??

the RIGHT ones are
eh-hem:

Born into Nixon, I was raised in hell
A welfare child where the teamsters dwelled
The last one born and the first one to run
My town was blind from refinery sun.

My generation is zero
I never made it as a working class hero
21st century breakdown
I once was lost but never was found
I think I'm losing what's left of my mind
to the 20th century deadline

I was made of poison and blood
Combination is what I understood
Video games till the towers fall
Homeland security could kill us all

My generation is zero
I never made it as a working class hero
21st century breakdown
I once was lost but never was found
I think I'm losing what's left of my mind
to the 20th century deadline

raised by the bastards of 1969

My name is 'No one' your long lost son
born on the 4th of July
raised in the era of heros and cons
Who left me for dead or alive

I am a nation a worker of pride
My debt to the status qou
The scars on my hands are a means to an end
it's all that I have to show

i swallowed my pride and i choked on my pain
I'd given my heart and my soul
I've broken my fingers and rott through my teeth
The pillar of damage control

I've been to the edge and I've thrown the bouquet (hey!)
What follows rolls over in graves
I sat in there waiting you're wasting my time
We're waiting for church today!

Praise Liberty!
The freedome to obey!
It's a song that strangles me
Well don't cross the line

Oh, dream, America dream
I can't even sleep from the light through the dark
Oh, scream, America scream
Believe what you see

From Hero's and Cons.

He's pretty much feeling what everyone who bothers to read once in a while is feeling, like the world is a circus and we're the jugling monkeys.

To the 20th Century Deadline

I was made of poison and blood
Condemnation is what I understood
Videogames to the tower's fall

And lied through my teeth
The pillar of damage control

Of flowers left over the grave
I sat in the waiting room
Wasting my time
And waiting for judgement day

I praise Liberty
The "Freedom to Obey"
Is the song that strangles me
Don't cross the line

Dream, America dream,
I can't even sleep
From the lights early dawn
Scream, America scream
Believe what you see from heroes and cons?

man you guys are dense.

To cskiba:
First off, this song is not about Kurt Cobain.
Second, Kurdt Kobain is Kurt's alias. If you're going to talk about Kurt's childhood then spell his name right.
Lastly, these are the lyrics to "21st Century Breakdown (Demo)" emphasis on DEMO.

To Voonzta:
F.O.D. man, F.O.D.

To date I feel this song is probably the most ambitious song by Green Day.
I first started listening to them when American Idiot came out but I went back and listened to all of their previous albums.

You can see the growth and change in their style and opinions as the times and Country have changed.

The song to me is pretty much telling a story about how government and the people in power dictate the way we live everyday. The changes in government directly affect the working class who have to work in order to make a living.

The way our Country is now, it's steadily getting worse, and with that decline people are slowly becoming angry and stressed.

Even through all the change and angst, their are still those who stand against the majorally accepted opinions and governmental rules and still find a place in the world where they can live while keeping their own opinions, and not working for one.

The entire scope of the album, about a couple who both have different ideas and methods of doing things, but in a way their two of a kind, and in all reality they only have each other.

That's how I feel at least about the titular track, but I like the demo just as much as the official release.
