  General Comment:I love how songs can represent different emotions to different people. This song became mine and my daughter's song the second she was born. The lyric "you suddenly complete me" was what came into my mind when I saw her for the first time. I thought it neat that the title of the song be "Hysteric", because the root of that word means "womb".

  Memory:About a year after I posted these beautiful lyrics, Yeah Yeah Yeahs went on an international headline tour supporting It's Blitz!. One of the venues they performed at was the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney. I live quite a few hours from Sydney but I couldn't pass up this opportunity. It was one of the final destinations in the tour so I was expecting a weary band but I was stunned by the dynamo that is Karen O. and her aplomb and energy. They all performed with such passion I felt as if I was seeing their opening tour. She is just as an amazing vocalist live as she is in the studio and Nick and Brian did a fantastic job supporting her. Sadly they didn't play Hysteric ;_; but having heard them do songs like Soft Shock live was brilliant. They put on a spectacular show, and when I say spectacular I mean not only visually scintillating but also wonderful on a musical level. They really know how to get the crowd going with them, too! So, yeah, def. see YYYs next time they tour. And Hysteric is still one of my most favourite YYYs songs ever <3

  General Comment:"No longer, no longer" You're not together anymore, with the person you felt like you would be with for a while. And as you walk away your steps feel strange like you've been there so many times but now it's different because you're not there for the same reason, you're not a part of there lives anymore..like you would like to be. But you think of all the old times together and it flows through your mind so sweetly but hangs so heavy since you're not together anymore, and when you were together you felt so complete and that everything was finally alright.
  
  "No wonder, no wonder" It couldn't have lasted long, may have felt like your "other half" but this time as you walk away you walk back and realize where it all changed.
  
  You still miss everything about him and the memories are so sweet and heavy.

  General Comment:I'm in love with this song also, acoustic version. Agree with earlier posts that it is sexual in meaning--hysterical paroxysm being an old-fashioned term for orgasm. "You suddenly complete me." Hyster means uterus of course. "Flow sweetly, hang heavy."
  
  Does this sound too clinical and pedantic for such a lovely song? No, I think the singer celebrates her earthy, sensual female self.

  she sounds so perfect, neat, pure
  i must confess this is the best song of It's blitz!
  And this song is like hysterically he does completly her, in a strange way to go back to what they had and she did not know, but the way he was makes her to feel what she feel: Be complete.

  General Comment:i agree with all of you. for me since the first moment i heard it "you suddenly complete me" catched my attention and made me analyze the song.
  
  i'm pretty sure its about a love that is being re-born. at first, the speakers says
  "no longer, no longer, what you ask" like if its the breakup
  but then, "heels turn black" meaning like they're dancing or somehow on their feet,
  and "the cinders, the cinders, light the path" is the same ashes from the past lighting the rebirth of love. and the steps take them back to what they were.
  then she realizes he completes her, and probably he feels the same way, and asks him to hang in there.
  and then " no wonder, no wonder, other half": she has no doubts about it now.
  now, hysteria, i think might be what jk123 said, but also it means "uncontrollably emotional" , and they can be referring to the feeling at that moment.
  This song is one of the most beautiful songs for me. it describes a perfect scene, in a perfect way. LOVE IT!
