I try to run, I try to hide
From a voice that couldn't satisfy
That was me, always needing more
But letting go of all I had before
Cause it feels like the end
A wound that I can't mend
I just can't fight any longer

You waited 'til I sobered
You came when You knew that
The game was over
I didn't even want to be found

But you chased me down and
Broke in just when
I was done believing
Spun me 'round so close now
I can feel you breathing
Sunlight burns inside and
I feel so alive and
Help me now, tell me how
How can this last forever, forever

I ignored the signs, opened every door
But I couldn't find what I searched for
I try to fight but I turn and run
Every move I make is the wrong one
You patiently wait for my next mistake
I know it won't be much longer

You waited 'til I sobered
You came when You knew that
The game was over
I didn't even want to be found

But you chased me down and
Broke in just when
I was done believing
Spun me 'round so close now
I can feel you breathing
Sunlight burns inside and
I feel so alive and
Help me now, tell me how
How can this last forever

You gave me so much more
Than I could ever ask for
But I turned and followed
A road the left me hollow
And still you waited for me
To come back home
You brought me home...

You chased me down and broke in just when
I was done believing
Spun me 'round so close now
I can feel you breathing
Sunlight burns inside and
I feel so alive and
Help me now, tell me how
How can this last forever, forever

General Comment:I think the song was written towards God, but I interpret into my own life. Good songwriting lets you do that, and this song was written very well.

General Comment:Red is an amazing band and this is my faverite of their songs. It is an obvious description of how God is chasing you down no matter how severly or often you reject Him. Amazing song.

General Comment:I see how you could get that he's talking about God, but I think this song was meant to be about a woman who waited for him and loved him even when he didn't deserve it.

I dunno about feeling God breathing, kinda creepy.

Song Meaning:This has become one of my favorite songs of my life, primarily because of how I could connect with the words and the power behind those words.

"I try to run, I try to hide from a voice that couldn't satisfy
That was me, always needing more
But letting go of all I had before"

The singer claims that the voice was his own. The lyrics suggest that he once had a relationship with Christ, because 1) he knows that his own desires cannot satisfy his soul (something a Christian is aware of) and in fact tried to run away from them because he knew of the dangers, and 2) he let go of all he had before, potentially his affection towards God.

"Cause it feels like the end
    A wound that I can't mend
I just can't fight any longer"

From the singer's perception, there seems to be no hope, the end. The wound that he cannot mend is his situation which he sees no way out of. He's giving up.

    "You waited 'til I sobered
You came when You knew that the game was over
I didn't even want to be found"

God waited for the precise moment in time in which the singer would hear Him or recognize Him in some way. "Sobered" basically means "vulnerable to God's redemption". "The game" refers to the singer's rejection of a relationship with God. The singer then says that he didn't even want to be found -- the whole process of redemption was not his idea, much less something he chose to do.

"But you chased me down and broke in just when
    I was done believing"

Ha! The most powerful part of the song -- the chorus. It's overall self-explanatory and uses a lot of rich imagery. The idea that God chased the singer down and broke in suggests that the singer had locked Him out in a way. I LOVE the fact that Christ pursues us despite our complete rejection of Him! And He knows the best time and method with which to step back into our perception and turn us around (just when I was done believing)!

"Spun me 'round so close now
    I can feel you breathing
    Sunlight burns inside and
    I feel so alive and"

After the singer's reconciliation with God (spun me 'round so close) comes the singer's description of the feeling of God's presence, like being one with Him (I can feel You breathing). Sunlight (light most often signifies truth) BURNS inside -- not a hurtful burn, but a strong awareness of the light.

"Help me now, tell me how
    How can this last forever
    Forever"

The singer is in awe of how the incredible feeling of God's presence could last forever.

"I ignored the signs, opened every door
But I couldn't find what I searched for
I try to fight but I turn and run
Every move I make is the wrong one"

The singer seems to still be searching for satisfaction, ignoring the newfound idea that only God can satisfy (ignored the signs). The singer recognizes his mistakes and is once again slowly believing the lie that he is of no worth.

"You patiently wait for my next mistake
I know it won't be much longer"

The Lord patiently waits for our inevitable disobedience to Him. He then forgives every single time.

"You gave me so much more
Than I could ever ask for
    But I turned and followed
A road the left me hollow
And still you waited for me to come back home
    You brought me home"

The singer is now recalling his period of an intimate relationship with God, and his period of rejection towards God, which left him dissatisfied (hollow, empty). The singer recalls how in the end, the Lord was patient with him, and led him back into a divine relationship (home is a place of comfort and shelter, which is God).

General Comment:this is probably my favorite song on the CD
and I took it to be about reaching out and finding your way back to God
I related it to those times in life where nothing seems right and you're on the verge of hitting rock bottom and when it seems like the game is over and it's not even worth it anymore, God shows up to pick you back up and takes you out of that dark place.
idk thats just what i think, and i can definitely relate to that.
either way i love this song.

General Comment:great song, amazing album. Red certainly didn't disappoint. I think you're totally right rednaxela, I think this song has a lot to do with God and how He steps in and makes us feel alive again. The message reminds me a lot of Pieces from Intro to Silence, but a little harder musically. I really love this song though

General Comment:Ya know, when i first listened to this song, i thought it was about him being in a severe state of depression from a previous relationship and then an amazing girl walked into his life that he never expected but yet never wants her to go away.

But as i kept listening, it just hit me that maybe it isnt a girl hes talking about, but God. He always ran away because he wanted to live his own life and be consumed by his own priorities. So God allowed him to be the creature of choice that he promised us all and when he finally hit rock bottom from living the life he chose, God stepped in and showed him the light, gave him back life, and put him on top of the world.

Either way, great song. great album.
