Lyrics for Ungodly Hour as interpreted by hopeful_canyon

Ungodly Hour Lyrics
Don't talk, don't say a thing
Cause your eyes they tell me more than your words
Don't go, don't leave me now
Cause they say the best way out is through

And I am short on words knowing what's occurred
She begins to leave because of me

Her bag is now much heavier
I wish that I could carry her
But this is our ungodly hour

I know you're leaving now
Cause I held on to my way tightly
Stay still until you know
Tomorrow finds the best way out is through

And I am short on words knowing what's occurred
She begins to leave because of me

Her bag is now much heavier
I wish that I could carry her
But this is our ungodly hour

I think this is about a boy and girl who have gotten into a fight

He realizes his mistake but cant/wont say anything

"And I am short on words knowing what's occurred She begins to leave because of me"

I know you're leaving now
Cause I held on to my way tightly

And this is what he wishes he could say but cant

I agree but I think that this about a boy and girl that got in a fight and the boy doesnt think he is wrong so we wont apologize for what he was said to do or actually did becasue he thinks he has done no wrong. "And I am short on words knowing what's occurred, She begins to leave because of me" I think this is talking about him being left and he is short that she would leave him because of what he might have done, but he stands firm and believes that he has truly done no wrong. "Her bag is now much heavier" think this is just talking about things because of what has happened between them. Talking about their "Ungodly Hour" think this just means about how as everything comes to an end, it doesnt matter who was right and who was wrong cause now for whatever reason they are both left alone.

I think we sumed up the song pretty well. It's about a argument that the boy and the girl have. He said something that he won't say sorry for and she leaves. But he hopes that tomorrw will be diffrent and they can make-up and say sorry.

As with 'Happiness' I hadn't listened to this song much from this album when I first got it.

However, after listening through the album a few more times I've found that I do actually like this song a lot more than I did when I first heard it.

It's very different for the Fray; a lot more sombre than most of their other music.

I agree that it can be interpretted as a boy and girl in the midst of a painful break up in which neither are admitting their faults.

However, this song also reminds me a lot of the current 90210 series; especially of the storyline of Adrianna and her pregnancy.

Where it says 'her bag is now much heavier' it reminds me of the burden that is now on that character.

This isn't just applicable to the programme, but also to real life, and to anyone who finds themself in that same situation.

This is similar to Skins S2 in which Jal becomes pregnant, and the advisor tells her that she has a lot to carry, and is weighed down.

The overall song itself other than this line could be speaking of the narrator's feelings about what has happened, and the inability he has to cope - like Navid with Adrianna in 90210.

Just a suggested and more unlikely meaning to this song, however that is what it reminds me of.

It's a beautiful song and really slow; befitting of the album overall.

Don't talk, don't say a thing
Cause your eyes they tell me more than your words
**I think this means that she's letting her pain speak words that she doesn't mean - and he can see in her eyes that she doesn't want to leave and that she still loves him.

Don't go, don't leave me now
Cause they say the best way out is through
**the best way out of the problem is getting through it together. He's saying "don't leave - lets work through this together"

And I am short on words knowing what's occurred
She begins to leave because of me
**He realizes that its his fault "because of me" and like most men he doesn't know what to say to make things right.

Her bag is now much heavier
**He's now contributed to her "baggage"
I wish that I could carry her
**He wants take away the weight that he and others before him have put on her heart/mind - and carry her to ease this pain.

But this is our ungodly hour
**it's their darkest moment - painful because deep down they don't want to part.

I know you're leaving now
Cause I held on to my way tightly
**he didn't change and this was what pushed her out the door. He was stubborn and took her for granted.
Stay still until you know
**Don't leave until you're sure this is what you want - because he can see in her eyes that she doesn't want to leave. "stay still" don't do anything drastic until you feel in your heart that you want to leave.
Tomorrow finds the best way out is through
**"tomorrow" is figuratively just holding on because "this too shall pass" and we will get through this

It sounds to me that this song is about a man who is in love with and has an affair with a married woman or perhaps just a woman that "belongs" to someone else. "Her bag is now much heavier"....she now has to deal with the guilt of what she has done. That being said, the line "This is our ungodly hour" is pretty self-explanatory.

I don't think its about a PARTICULAR fight, I think its about him (the point of view) and a girl who are in a relationship, and they both can just see it falling apart. They carry on and on even though they know its just getting worse every time - "her bag is now much heavier" - and its their ungodly hour. Both of them about to walk away from what they have.

I believe its actually about the girl committing suicide, the couple has some problems, and she cant bare to leave him, and still knowing he could be with someone else, but she can't be with him, so she goes to kill herself, the Ungodly being suicide as a sin, and he can't do anything to stop her, but he tries, he tells her it could be better tomorrow, he also tries to get her to talk about it, Common methods of preventing suicide.
