Don't talk , don't say a thing, don't say a word
'Cause your eyes they tell me more than your words
Don't go, don't leave me now
Cause they say the best way out is through

And I am short on words knowing what's occurred
She begins to leave because of me

Her bag is now much heavier
I wish that I could carry her
But this is our ungodly hour

And I know you're leaving now
Cause I held on to my way tightly
And stay still until you know
Tomorrow finds the best way out, is through

And I am short on words knowing what's occurred
She begins to leave because of me

Her bag is now much heavier
I wish that I could carry her
But this is our ungodly hour

Ungodly hour
Ungodly hour

And I am short on words knowing what's occurred
And she begins to leave because of me

Her bag is now much heavier
I wish that I could carry her
But this is our ungodly hour
Ungodly hour
Ungodly hour

Her bag is now much heavier
I wish that I could carry her
But this is our ungodly hour.

Memory:I totally agree with CloudedMind. In my case, I was abandoned by my friend because of something I told him. I had told him about my crush on another guy. After a while, we stopped walking home together and talking. After I had been rejected by my crush, I wished so much that he was by my side to comfort me because none of my girl friends could. Literally, my bag had felt heavier because I could have prevented all of this if I had kept my mouth shut. We had nothing to say to each other because we both had thoughts of what was right. Truly, I would do anything to go back to the hour where I told my friend that damned secret.

General Comment:I don't quite see why everyone is referring to this as some sort of ending love story. There are other relationships in life as well. I listened to this song a lot when my closest friend had told me about a very personal thing that she had to deal with in her everyday life. There wasn't really anything I could say or do to help her, I could just stand beside and watch. After this she started to avoid me, the fact that I knew this about her that she hadn't told anyone else made her panic. And I felt so frustrated, because I wished so badly that there would be something I could do. We didn't talk to each other, because there was nothing to say anymore. But everytime our eyes met, there was so much more to every look than we could have possibly said by words. And all I want is to be able to lift this huge weight off of her tiny little shoulders. But I can't, and it kills me inside. I'd like to just give this song to her so that she would understand that I will always be there for her, no matter what happens.

General Comment:i believe this song is about a breakup.
but i had also thought it may be about his girfriends mother has died, her bags are heavy with burdens, and he doesnt know what to say.
ungodly hour is referring to the hour of the death, and they are spending it together.
the songs tempo is slow expressing the fact that the hour the mother had died was a slow and painful one.
    This is just my opinion,

General Comment:I have a slightly different idea to this song; that this song is about a guy who has had his heartbroken by a girl he loved, but he moved on to a new relationship. However, this relationship is failing or going slow because he just can't get over, and move on from, the previous girl.

    "Don't talk, don't say a thing
Cause your eyes they tell me more than your words"

This is from the girl's perspective; she can see in his eyes that something is wrong.

"Don't go, don't leave me now
Cause they say the best way out is through"

The guy talking; I don't want you to leave me, because I think the only way I'm going to move on from her is to be with you. Please don't leave.

"And I am short on words knowing what's occurred
She begins to leave because of me"

She leaves, knowing that he can't give her his all.

"Her bag is now much heavier
I wish that I could carry her
But this is our ungodly hour"

She'll now have the baggage of their failed relationship. He wishes he could give her everything, but it's not the right time.

That's what I'm taking from the song anyway :)

General Comment:I think this song is about the feeling at the end of a relationship where the songwriter has promised his significant other that he would change to keep her happy, but has not succeeded in changing (I know you're leaving now cause I held onto my way tightly). As a result, the songwriter is pleading for one more chance and, as a result of being blinded by his love for her, does not want to face the truth, that the two of them just were not meant for each other.

Song Meaning:i think its about a guy and girl who are pregnant, he wants to keep it but shes thinking of abortion or vice versa i suppose. she cant deal with his decision so shes leaving. it leads me to believe that HES the one who wants to keep it though cause of the lines:

    "I know you're leaving now
Cause I held on to my way tightly
    Stay still until you know
Tomorrow finds the best way out is through"

    and

"Her bag is now much heavier
I wish that I could carry her"

great song regardless of what it means, always been one of my favorites off this album.

General Comment:I believe its actually about the girl committing suicide, the couple has some problems, and she cant bare to leave him, and still knowing he could be with someone else, but she can't be with him, so she goes to kill herself, the Ungodly being suicide as a sin, and he can't do anything to stop her, but he tries, he tells her it could be better tomorrow, he also tries to get her to talk about it, Common methods of preventing suicide.

Song Meaning: I don't think its about a PARTICULAR fight, I think its about him (the point of view) and a girl who are in a relationship, and they both can just see it falling apart. They carry on and on even though they know its just getting worse every time - "her bag is now much heavier" - and its their ungodly hour. Both of them about to walk away from what they have.

General Comment:It sounds to me that this song is about a man who is in love with and has an affair with a married woman or perhaps just a woman that "belongs" to someone else. "Her bag is now much heavier"....she now has to deal with the guilt of what she has done. That being said, the line "This is our ungodly hour" is pretty self-explanatory.
