When I was a boy
I didn't care about a thing
It was me and this world and a broken dream
I was blaming myself
For all that was goin' wrong

I was way out there
On the wrong side of town
And the ones that I loved
I started pushing 'em out
Then I realized
That it was all my fault

[Chorus]
I've been looking for a lifeline
For what seems like a lifetime
I'm drowning in the pain
Breaking down again
Looking for a lifeline

So I put out my hand
And I asked for some help
We tore down the walls I built around myself
I was struck by the light
And I fell to the ground

[Chorus]

Is there anybody out there?
Can you pull me from this ocean of despair?
I'm drowning in the pain
Breaking down again
Looking for a lifeline

You know a heart of gold
Won't take you all the way
And in a world so cold
It's hard to keep the faith
I'm never gonna fade away!

Yeah!

I've been looking for a lifeline
(I've been looking for a lifeline)
For what seems like a lifetime
(For what seems like a lifetime)
I'm drowning in the pain
Breaking down again
Looking for a lifeline

Is there anybody out there?
(Is there anybody out there?)
Can you pull me from this ocean of despair?
I'm drowning in the pain
Breaking down again
Looking for a lifeline

General Comment:Yeah, yeah, it's like Social Distortio, alright, Can we start talking about PAPA ROACH???
I first didn't lke this song cause it was way too "popish", but i think this is one of those songs that shows Jacoby Shaddix is more than just a lazy, reckless junkie, but it shows a more mature and deep side of Papa Roach. I believe it's about just all frustrations in life and how you don't help your life getting better, but you go on the wrong side.
This song helps for when I'm feeling down, and you just feel like giving up and giving in to the shit around you and lose yourself, this song shows that, in the end, you were better off before, on your own.
And in a world so cold
its hard to keep the faith
Im never gonna fade away! This is one of my favorite lines ever

General Comment:you people must not realize how difficult it is to make a song that's not based off of anything else because there is only so much you can play on a guitar or to sing lyrically before things start to repeat their selves

Song Meaning:Since no one put the meaning of this song i guess im technically the first one.... I believe this has to do with family struggling... I noticed how in the video theres foreclosure signs and loosing a job and stuff like that. So he looses himself (a typical kind of human break down) hard to find a job, house is at jeopardy. And to me, he is hoping that when he comes home, his wife and kid will still love him. It could also mean new opportunity... but i see it as what i mentioned before.

General Comment:I totally agree that Lifeline, though I think it still an awesome song, sounds a lot like I Was Wrong. I had just heard this song after playing I Was Wrong on Rock Band, and thought that maybe I was the only one who'd think that they were incredibly similar, but I guess I'm not.

General Comment:The song sounds pretty good. That'd kinda suck if they ripped off Social Disortion though.

General Comment:Jacoby Shaddix has always said Social Distortion was one of his favourite bands...and that he always wanted to cover one of their songs...I guess instead of covering them he just ripped them off, oh well

General Comment:This song is a total ripoff of Social Distortions I Was Wrong. Very similar lyrics and music. When I first heard it I thought it was a cover.

My Opinion:am I the only one who's noticed some heavy lyrical similarities between this and Social Distortion's I Was Wrong? it struck me right away the first time I heard this song.

    Social Distortion:
When I was young, I was so full of fear
    ...
It was me against the world, I was sure that I'd win
    ...
I felt so alone, so insecure, I blamed you instead and made sure I was heard
    ...
I was wrong, I realized now that I was wrong

    Papa Roach:
    When I was a boy
    ...
It was me and this world and a broken dream
    ...
    I was blaming myself
    ...
    then I realized
That it was all my fault
