When I first saw you, there were guns in the river
Black birds of warning
Circling high above the marquee where
The blue notes of lovers
Mixed with the loneliness of others
Turned our breath into snowflakes
As we whispered in the gutters

We try to find the life at rainbow's end
It finds the end of us instead
Everyone we love

When I come back now, there are ads in the shadows
Diamonds in the skyline
You can't afford to look up at them
Or catch your reflection in someone else's mirror
Your voice is a music
And I'm drowing in a silent land

So if I dive over the railing
Will I float up on all the shining waves of light

We try to find the life at rainbow's end
It finds the end of us instead
Everyone we love's around
Everyone we love's around
Everywhere, we see
Come on

Everyone we love
Everyone we love
Everyone we love
Everyone we love
Everyone you love surrounds you
Everyone you love surrounds you
Everyone you love surrounds you
Everyone you love
Everyone you love surrounds
Everyone you love surrounds
Everyone you love surrounds

My Interpretation:I think the song is about capitalism, working your ass off for nothing while seeing everything around you commercialized. Feels like kind of a follow-up to "For The Workforce, Drowning".

General Comment:according to an interview in AP, this is about geoff's grandmother. "It's about on the one level, what happens to people when they are no longer there, and about the idea of ultraviolet light, which is beyond what you see."
