An apple and a berry plant
Comes with a house
On the grass, who is that
To come by my house

Stands outside my window
Sucking on the berries
And eats us out of house and home
Keeping us awake, keeping us awake

Can I come over, I need to rest
Lay down for a while
Disconnect the night was so long
The day even longer
Lay down for a while recollect

Five A-M out again
Triangle walks
Magpies, I throw sticks at them
They laugh behind my back

Getting a feeling
Maybe I will dream again
Having that feeling
When there's no one awake
No no one awake

Can I come over, I need to rest
Lay down for a while
Disconnect the night was so long
The day even longer
Lay down for a while recollect

General Comment:I believe that she is being stalked... This person/or thing has taken her since of security away! The person she is asking if she can come over is a person that she can trust and someone she feels secure with. Someone who can help her "disconnect"! "Five A-M out AGAIN triangle walks" means she's going through the same thing over and over again !.! Magpies = bad luck; in some cases death.. she tries to fight them by throwing sticks at them, but they just laugh at her. The part when she says "Getting the feeling that maybe i will dream again having that feeling that there's no one awake" she is impling that she hasn't slept and that she feels lonely in the situation. Over all this is one of my favorite songs... I play it over and over again !

General Comment:I apply the lyrics to a more general meaning- trying to protect herself and loved ones from temptation- because I can relate to that general theme more than I could being a mother. "An apple" is the archetype for all temptation and I believe a berry plant is just another symbol for temptation because berries are often poisonous, but have always had a symbol of wealth, luxury, and desire for someone surviving the wilderness, which are all tempting. Her "house", or family, "comes with" temptation trying to reach them, which stands outside the actual "house"- her stronghold or place of safety.

The one outside (possibly the Devil) is continually feeding off the temptation. He "eats [them] out of house and home", which is an idiom meaning that someone is eating so much that they cost you your house, and in this case, the temptation eats at them and takes away their stronghold or place of safety. He is "keeping us awake" or trying to push her and her loved ones into the temptation.

The next part of the song just discusses the hardship of continually facing that temptation and needing a break from it, perhaps needing a savior (no, I'm not religious but great literary work and poetry- a song- all have themes from the Bible to add depth to the meaning).

The next part, "5 AM" shows how restless the temptation makes her, the triangle walks I interpret as connecting back to the holy trinity, which helps her find solace in her day's struggles. She "throws sticks at" or tries to push away those "magpies" or incessant chatters (adding to the relentlessness theme) that gave into temptation and laugh at her for not.

She hopes- "maybe" she will "dream again", or be free from temptation if "no one" is "awake", or the relentlessness of temptation ceases and she can finally sleep.

General Comment:I agree with revildraw. And the considerationg about the mystic meaning of magpies seem to be quite relevant once you watch the video for this song. On the video, Karin seems to be participating of some kind of paganist ritual, inside her house maybe, with other people or just other beings. Maybe the ritual represents an attempt to get rid of the bad omen. This probably has to do with her "post-natal mood", but I don't see it as her laughing about her over-protectiveness. Maybe she was tired due to the privation of sleep, and when she slept she had nightmares in which she experienced the fear of harm being made to her family and herself. Maybe the ritual thing could also symbolize her wish to feel protected, to be able to sleep properly without having nightmares (or without fearing to sleep because your child may need you) and to have a break of being affraid.

General Comment:Volcom7689 is right. It's about her self-reflexive irony towards a magpie sitting outside the window and eating berries. She laughs at herself for entertaining the idea that a bird could symbolise death, and for thinking she needed to shoo it away by throwing sticks at her. This album was made in her "post-natal mood", where a woman is, naturally, almost entirely focused on looking after her baby; it's a little laugh at herself for being over-protective.

General Comment:I reckon its Insomnia ('Triangle walks' around the neighbourhood) and being tired from rearing kids, hence wanting to get away for some rest.

There is a general tone of depression at modern family life but the uplifting last verse is a realisation that life still has plenty to offer.

General Comment:I think the song is about being haunted, or having something looming over you...
the person is having trouble sleeping or cannot get to sleep because of something (potentially because of young children)

magpies are an omen for bad luck, so throwing sticks at them, trying to help herself out but they just laugh at what she's going through.

the character is overwhelmed and wants an escape in order to recollect, and take time for herself.

General Comment:It could mean anything, really, which is the beauty of it. To me it seems to be about sleepwalking through life, never really sleeping but never really being awake either. It's like walking in a circle, only the edges are a little harder and it can be rough at times. Hence, triangle walks. :) But it's just a desperate interpretation, I think. :P
