Fever Ray – I'm Not Done

General Comment:It doesn't seem to me to be about a relationship breakup - I think that's other people reading their own experiences into the song. She's saying "We made fire in the snow" - we did something impossible/hard to do.

"Some do magic, some do harm" - that's about the way people operate in the world in general surely? It's to do with work - music, art, personal projects. Sounds like she is responding to criticism from somebody close.

"Do you laugh while screaming" is about getting through adversity, finding a way to be strong. "Is it cold outside" is about the world. "What is made of cloth?" - what is impermanent?

Seems to me to be a defiant answer to a chaotic world. If she's saying "It ain't over" to a partner, it would be a strangely calm, defiant musical setting for that lyric.

General Comment:The song lyrics are wrong, here says:

"So I lost my head a while ago but you seem to have done better"

when it says "You seem have done NO better"

I think is important to fix that, it is an important phrase to the song.

General Comment:The "Who is the Alpha" line sounds like a German phrase to me... "Wo ist die Antwort" - translate "Where is the answer"... which would fit with the relationship breakup angle...

This song moves me.

General Comment:IMO, "I'm Not Done" is about two people (lovers, mother and child, whoever) really debating over who's right and who is more wise ("Who is the alpha?"). Despite their differences, both people know that that they're not going to stop caring for each other over such a minuscule matter ("It's not over, I'm not done").

General Comment:i read somewhere in an interview that karin wrote this song last of the album's tracks.
she said it was about how when people get older, they just quit music and grow up/get regular lives/start families.
this is her way of saying, i'll never be done with music, because its her career and life, basically.

'That was the last song I wrote and in contrast to many tracks that are more about anxiety and depression, that one is very full of life,' she says. 'Sometimes, when you’re as old as I am now, you think you’re going to quit, and people around you think you’re going to quit. But then you have days when you realise how good music can be, there’s so much left to explore and so much left to do. That’s why I sometimes feel I’ll never quit.'"

  Thanks for posting this. I thought maybe the song was about her relationship with her brother from her band The Knife. That he was done with music but she wasn't thus creating Fever Ray. But it seems it was about herself instead.

The famous "What is made of cloth?" (well folks? what is? - a puppet) hence -

"Who is the Alpha
and what is made of cloth?"

might mean "who the f*** is the strong individual in this relationship and who the h*** is the weak one?"

she thinks she is, and saying "I'm not done" she's saying that "it ain't over until I(SHE) say(s) so...." and "kneel boy!" and such :)
