Lyrics for Syndicate as interpreted by OnThe11th

Syndicate Lyrics
Halfway around the world
Lies the one thing that you want
Buried in the ground
Hundred miles down
The first thing that arises in your mind when you awake
Is bending you till you break let me hold you now

Baby close your eyes don't open till the morning light
Baby don't forget we haven't lost at all yet

Don't know what you're made of till the one thing that you want
Is coming with the dawn and suddenly changes
Monday's syndicate means everyone's the same
And all we've lost to the flame listen to me now

Baby close your eyes don't open till the morning light
Don't ever forget we haven't lost at all yet
All we know for sure is all that we are fighting for
Baby don't forget we haven't lost at all yet

Someday when this is over
We may still have no answer
For now is when I hold her
We are closer
We are closer
We are closer
We are closer

Baby close your eyes don't open till the morning light
Don't ever forget we haven't lost at all yet
And though we know for sure is all that we are fighting for
Baby don't forget we haven't lost at all yet

We are closer
We are closer
Now we are closer
We are closer

"Someday when this is over
We erase to find no answer"

I am pretty sure this is actually
"Someday when this is over
We may still have no answer"

Anyways, great great song. Can't wait for the new album.

Oooh, just wait, I found this: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/music/news/e3i728e28adf80ba3aaea2254e658ba2cf0

NEW YORK -- The Fray has unveiled the track list for its self-titled sophomore album, arriving Feb. 3 from Epic. Lead single "You Found Me" has already sold 278,000 copies in three weeks of U.S. digital release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

That track stemmed from crises among friends and family that prompted singer Isaac Slade to confront the age-old question of why bad things happen to good people. Another song, "Enough for Now," tackles the fallout from the death of Slade's grandfather.

The sound of "The Fray" -- produced like the debut by Epic vp A&R Mike Flynn and Aaron Johnson -- is "a little more extreme than the last record," Slade tells Billboard. "The quieter stuff is a little quieter than our last record and the rock stuff is a little rockier. It definitely spreads the spectrum a little bit."

The new album will be previewed with a handful of club dates early next year, beginning Jan. 6 in the Fray's Denver hometown and wrapping Feb. 4 in New York. The latter show will be cybercast on the band's Web site.

The Fray is also playing a free outdoor show Wednesday in Los Angeles as part of "Jimmy Kimmel Live." An extensive North American tour is likely to begin in June.

The new album is the follow-up to 2005's "How To Save a Life," which has sold 2.34 million copies in the U.S.

Here is the track list for "The Fray":

"Syndicate"
"Absolute"
"You Found Me"
"Say When"
"Never Say Never"
"Where the Story Ends"
"Enough for Now"
"Ungodly Hour"
"We Build Then We Break"
"Happiness"

I think it's about a couple going through a tough time, comforting each other, holding on to each other's love.

This song is playing on their website right now, thefray.net it sounds great.

I'm a little puzzled as to the meaning of the "syndicate"... Monday's syndicate means everyone's the same...

Syndicate: a group of individuals or organizations combined or making a joint effort to undertake some specific duty or carry out specific transactions or negotiations

Maybe it means that together they're gonna work together to fix the problem in their relationship. Both of them are equal, both of them have the same responsibility to the relationship, each other, and themselves. I don't know, what does else could it mean?

I have the official lyrics booklet, and it's actually "haven't lost IT all", not "AT all".

Also:
"And though we know for sure "
It's still "All we know for sure"

And "For now is when I hold her"
Is actually "For now IT'S when..."

So you might want to correct that :)

Anyway, this is one of my favourite songs from the album :)

to me it's about a long distance relationship ("half way around the world/ lies the one thing that you want"), where the two people are working together (syndicating) to make it last until they can be together again ("someday when this is over"). all they do is think about the person ("first thing that arises in your mind when you wake"), and they value the time they do have together ("let me hold you now", "for now is when i hold her").

no idea if that's right, just my interpretation. there are a few lines that don't seem to fit/i don't understand, but ohwell.

great song

This song is definitely about a long distance relationship and the two trying to make it through till when they can be together. That they are closer even though they arent physically or geographically there with eachother

somehow i dont think this is about a long distance relationship.
my take on this is that they cannot be together and for some reason they have to wait
possible wait until it is right to be together and it will be perfect, hence the line 'we havent lost at all yet'

well to me it actaully kinda sounds like the war.... i dont think "she" is referring to a girl, its more like america... maybe...

"Halfway around the world
Lies the one thing that you want
Buried in the ground
Hundreds of miles down"
is obviously oil

from there i'm not completely sure, but i'm pretty sure its not about a long distance relationship. a lot of the fray's songs are much deeper than they first appear, and i don't think this is any different. "say when" is also about war.....

we are closer,
we haven't lost it all yet.

I really think a lot of The Fray's new album is about finding the Lord and the battles we face in life.

This song, to me, is about the hardships and tests you face when you finally have built up your faith (because evil will try and tear your down when you truly believe).

"Halfway around the world
Lies the one thing that you want
Buried in the ground
Hundred miles down"
----I picture this to be a "test", where someone is putting you down because you believe. They're saying that across the globe is the one thing you want (Jesus), buried in the ground from his death on the cross... hundred of miles down because it's been over 2000 years.

"The first thing that arises in your mind when you awake
Is bending you till you break let me hold you now"
----This is stating that the first thing you think of (when you hear the first words of the song) is people try to tear you down until you don't believe anymore .

"Baby don’t forget we haven’t lost at all yet"
----This is the reassuring hope from someone who believes with you that we haven’t lost just because we question our faith or because people or events try and make us not believe.

"Don't know what you're made of till the one thing that you want
Is coming with the dawn and suddenly changes"
----This I think is saying that Jesus is coming soon, like on a Sunday or something (like the Holy Sabbath) and we don’t know what we are capable of (all the love and truth) until He comes.

"All we know for sure is all that we are fighting for"
----The only thing we know for sure is our faith in God and our fight for Him.

"Someday when this is over
We may still have no answer
For now is when I hold her
We are closer
We are closer
We are closer
We are closer"
----Perhaps even when the Lord does come and the war is over, we will still have no answer as to what life was all about and all the secrets of life. And for now, hold on to the ones you love and your faith until that day comes.
“We are closer” could meet closer to God, to the second coming, and closer to the people around you and the other believers
Obviously this is my interpretation, and only The Fray will know TRULY what this song is about. But think about it… :D

i definitley agree with gr00vysh0es that this song is about the struggle or journey to get in touch with the lord. when he says "and we've all lost to the flame so listen to me now" could be refering to the flames of hell and that everyone sins sometimes and is allowed to make mistakes, and just because you mess up doesnt mean you've lost your faith.

I would ALSO like to add to my previous post

"The first thing that arises in your mind when you awake"
----The reason why it says "when you awake", I think it means it in the sense that when we awake in God... like we're sleeping/dead until we find Him & believe in Him.

I think it's about both a long-distance relationship and having to wait for something.
It's kind of what I'm going through now... We have to wait and see how it goes when we are back in school in the fall, because right now we are "hundreds of miles" away from each other so we can't put a relationship together.
We didn't really admit to liking each other until right before school ended, so "don't know what you're made of 'til the one thing that you want is coming with the dawn and suddenly changes" means a lot to me; our relationship was finally starting to come together, but the year ended (came with the dawn, but suddenly changed). Now we are going to see what our relationship is "made of" and find out if the relationship is even worth it.
It's the "first thing that arises" in my mind when I wake up and not knowing how it will turn out really is driving me crazy (bending you til you break).
The last time we saw each other we just were with each other, not really saying anything. I know I'm trying to be patient, but I'm scared about what could happen. luckily the line that says "baby don't forget we haven't lost it all yet" kind of gives me hope... it's not over yet, it's just a speed bump we have to get over.
We can't know anything about it; "all we know for sure is all that we are fighting for" and when we finally see each other again we still may not know what to do (we may still have no answer).

I think that this song, like many others on the album, may be discussing the stresses of a marriage wherein one spouse has cheated on the other.
Fighting for a relationship, over coming obstacles, things like this make a mature couple grow stronger and closer.
