I wish I didn't hate this album... it was very disappointing from Feels and Strawberry Jam.
Anyway, this song is pretty much all sexual analogies that connect to summertime.

millie's right, the only word is orgasmic lol.

easily the most romantic song i've ever heard but he never says "love" once. it's just implied by the way he's talking about her.

he can't sleep on a hot summer night so he calls her and they spend the night roaming the streets together. the "purple yawns" reference means that they grow tired and want to go to sleep at dawn (the sky is purple just before sunrise. and i don't think you can knock someone out with perfume). it ties in with "when the sun comes out we'll go out again". they sleep during the day and spend the nights in the empty city together. and that's the way he likes it: "don't cool off, i like your warmth".

so, i'm not agreeing with all that 'purple yawn' shit. i'm with the ecstacy bit. i really doubt this entire song is about taking advantage of his wife.

"purple yawns" is obviously a reference to avey tare's obsession with his wife's Pure Purple Perfume for Women by Hugo Boss

YAWNS means he douses a rag with it and uses it as chloroform to knock her out before having his way with her while she's wearing her summertime clothes (a.k.a. nothing LOL)..she would obviously yawn before losing consciousness

and finally, it's "when the sun goes down we'll GET WET again"...no explanation needed..lol

That is one of the greatest AC couplets I've heard; speaks to so many emotions with only twenty words. This song is, in my opinion, easily the best off of MPP.

My best friend has been trying to get me into this band for 2 years! After hearing this song a few times now, I'm blown away! I can't stop listening to it! It's so damn good. Anyway, moufouette - you're totally right about 'let's meander at an easy pace' - makes sense and sounds right!
Can anyone recommend me similarly sounding Animal Collective songs?

It seems to be describing a night on MDMA(ectasy): and a voice from the clock says "you're not gonna get tired" an obvious reference to the inability to sleep after the come down.
Dance to the songs from the cars as they pass,
and the mixed references to being hot and cold. Just as landofsubmarines says, the song is filled with a great sense of love, which again is a primary effect of ecstasy,


And maybe the line "the foreman's leakin'" is a George Foreman grill? Seems ridiculous, but it fits.
