Lyrics for Also Frightened as interpreted by Bertxx

Also Frightened Lyrics
Face your money into the dark
But you can't sweat unless
Swung by the hen
Let them crawl into the logs
That damn crouching for you
Offer a pen
Exciting and screaming
Their voices go wild
And rise with the birds
Mating up in the clouds
Two bottles at three covered
By leaves, maybe they will
Make prince on their backs

Will it just be like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?
Will it just be like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?

If they're awake till the dawn
We won't fret they don't have our eyes
Ghosting, crawling around but I
Won't be slept on our side
From our window to lanterns
Go signs on the night
And letters and shadows
Go watch with the light
I want to be who they will be
To be more like their dad

Will it just be like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?
Will it just be like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?

If the wind is threatenin'
Maybe I should bath them
Maybe we should let them
And I have a question:

ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?

No one should call you a dreamer
No one should call you a dreamer
No one should call you a dreamer
Now

Face your body into the dark
and you can't sweat once you've swung by the hem
Let them crawl into the logs
Let damn groun[gings???] the hue of a pen
Exciting and screaming, their voices go wild
And rise with the birds mating up in the pines
Down to puddles that breathe covered by leaves
With mud they'll make prints on their backs

Will it just be like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?
Will it just be like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?

If they're awake till the dawn
Well we won't fret that they don't have our eyes
The ghost came crawling around
And when I woke you slept there on your side
From our window to lanterns
Go signs on the night
And light up two shadows that watch with delight
Well, I want them to be who they will be
Ooh to be more like their dad

Will it just be like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?
Will it just be like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?

When influence is threatened
Maybe I should let them
Maybe we should let them
And I have a question:

ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?
ARE YOU ALSO FRIGHTENED?

Won't she call you a dreamer?
No one should call you a dreamer?
No one should call you a dreamer?
No one should call you a dreamer?

Now

and some of that i can't catch

help?

official

Ghosts came crowding around and then
I woke, you slept there on your side
From our window, two lanterns draw signs on the night
And light our two shadows I watch with delight
Will I want them to be who they will be
Or to be more like their dad

Will it be just like they're dreaming
Will it be just like I'm dreaming
Will it be just like they're dreaming
Will it be just like I'm dreaming

The influence is relative
Maybe I should let them
Maybe we should let them
And I have a question:

Are you also frightened?

And no one should call you a dreamer

this song is really hard to analyze haha so i'm just going to say flat out that i think it's about being afraid of death, personally.
i think the imagery in the song is death-related, like "ghosts came crowding around" represents being taken by death, etc. and "will it be just like i'm dreaming" is asking the question, will death be just like a dream? so the singer asks, are you as scared of this as i am? "are you also frightened" of death?

Sounds like a song about being a father to me. Either wanting, or not wanting, your children to grow up like you.

I agree- this song has got to be about the anxiety inherent in fatherhood - you know - worrying about their safety 24hrs a day. Wanting them to explore the world but stay out of trouble. wanting them to find their own way in the world and become interesting individuals in their own right but yet still have a bit of the old man in them; kids are wonderfully incipient little beings totally oblivious to the staggering range of fates (good and bad) that potentially await them. ITS FRIGHTENING!

Brilliant song!!

..sorry i was talking a good bit of bollocks there.

Wow all of these lyrics are so wrong i had to make an account to fix this injustice

Venture my way into the dark where we can sweat
One takes one by the hand
Let them crawl into the logs that dam
Brown jeans the hue of their path

Excited and screamin' their voices grow wild
And rise with the birds mating up in the pines
Down to puddles that breathe, covered by leaves
With mud they'll make prints on their backs

Will it be just like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?
Will it be just like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?

If they're awake till the dawn, well we won't
Fret that they don't have our eye
The ghosts came crowding around and then
I woke, you slept there on your side
From our window, two lanterns draw signs on the night
And light our two shadows, I watch with delight
Will I want them to be who they will be
Or to be more like their dad?

Will it be just like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?
Will it be just like they're dreaming?
Will it be just like I'm dreaming?

When influence is threatened
Maybe I should let them
Maybe we should let them
And I have a question:

Are you also frightened?

No one should call you a dreamer

Not now!

Look their asking why are we all so frightened of death. Really its just the beginning of another dream.
are you all so frightened

I believe oldschool animal collective fans will know that they use words differently
also= all so-
sportsbrothers= support your brother
This is a call to arms for our generation.
Take it all back from the older generation
Have them give us back our herb and our earth.
Stay out of our business because the human is an amazing soul

sounds to me like it's about having sex, your girlfriend gets pregnant, and then you've got this person that doesn't even exist yet constantly on your mind and your wondering what it'll be like when the baby's born, will it have your eyes? do you want it to be like you or is it okay if it's different? should you let it have influences other than you in it's life? and are you as frightened as i am? or that's what i got from it.

this sounds to me like one night an expecting mother and father had a hushed pillow-talk conversation about what would happen to the child(ren) if one or both of them were to suddenly die, and they both feel the deep weight of this task they have taken upon themselves, and they wonder if they are able and strong enough, or if they will live long enough to see everything come to fruition. this becomes stuck in the father's mind, and he dreams lucidly that night, seeing his child grow and become a man as he leaves his own body and watches from the other side of death. seeing the whole picture, he knows that all that he and his lover can do is try their best, and know that his children will be who they want to be - "the influence is relative".

i could be talking shit, but all i know is that i love animal collective even more than i love the pixies and modest mouse. that nothing calms me, yet makes me want to tear shit up more than the noises that come out of them. fucking...life-giving.

This song fits in the theme of the whole album--kids and wives and being grown up. The thoughts of death are only added to enhance the fear of parenthood represented in this song. I think it's one of the most blatant songs on the album, but that doesn't mean it's bad at all.

And rise with the birds
Mating up in the clouds
Two bottles at three covered

Make prince on their backs

should be:

and rise with the birds
mating up in the pines
down to puddles 'that breathe' (or, "they'll breed?")
covered by leaves
with mud they'll make prints on their backs

Ohhhh oh gosh, you guys.
It's so beautiful though. It's a song that is asking his wife if she is "Also Frightened" about raising their gorgeous children. You were right about the being afraid of them growing up. It's so pretty. Ah.

Face your body into the dark and
we can’t sweat one takes one by the hand.
Let them crawl into the logs, they’re damned,
brown changed the hue of their pants.
excited and screaming their voices grow wild,
and rise with the birds mating up in the pines
down to puddles that breathe, covered by leaves,
with mud they’ll make prints on their paths

But how?
Will it be just like they’re dreaming?
Will it be just like I’m dreaming
Will it be just like they’re dreaming?
Will it be just like I’m dreaming
But how?

If they’re awake ‘til the dawn well we won’t fret that they don’t have our eyes.
The ghosts came in crowding around and i
woke, you slept there on your side.
From our window two lanterns throw signs on the night
and light up two shadows, I watch with delight.
Will I want them to be who they will be, or to be more like their dad?

But how?
Will it be just like they’re dreaming?
Will it be just like I’m dreaming
Will it be just like they’re dreaming?
Will it be just like I’m dreaming
But how?

When influence is threatened,
maybe I should let them,
maybe we should let them,
and I have a question:

Are you also frightened?
Are you also frightened?
Are you also frightened?
Are you also frightened?

No one should call you a dreamer

Not now

I feel that this song is about his thoughts on being a father. It paints cryptic but vivid images of his children playing, adventuring and experimenting, while he is haunted (by what he calls ghosts) with a decision: Will I want them to be who they will be, or to be more like their dad? He's not sure whether to let them do their own thing and run their own lives or to almost control them and guard them possibly like his parents did to him. In the end I feel that the question "Are you also frightened?" is not about death, but about making a mistake in raising their children. He's scared that he wont be the parent he wants to be.
