Lyrics for Chinese as interpreted by feel me loud

Chinese Lyrics
I see you from the sky
And I wonder how long it will take me to get home
I wait for an hour or so at the carousel
I have a cigarette to pass the time
Cause the traffic's hell

I don't want anything more
Than to see your face when you open the door
You'll make me beans on toast and a nice cup of tea
And we'll get a Chinese and watch TV
Tomorrow we'll take the dog for a walk
And in the afternoon then maybe we'll talk
I'll be exhausted so I'll probably sleep
And we'll get a Chinese and watch TV

You wipe the tears from my eye
And you say that all that it takes is a phone call
I cry at the thought of being alone and then
I wonder how long it will take til I'm home again

I don't want anything more
Than to see your face when you open the door
You'll make me beans on toast and a nice cup of tea
And we'll get a Chinese and watch TV
Tomorrow we'll take the dog for a walk
And in the afternoon then maybe we'll talk
I'll be exhausted so I'll probably sleep
And we'll get a Chinese and watch TV

I know it doesn't seem so fair
But I'll send you a postcard when I get there

I don't want anything more
Than to see your face when you open the door
You'll make me beans on toast and a nice cup of tea
And we'll get a Chinese and watch TV
Tomorrow we'll take the dog for a walk
And in the afternoon then maybe we'll talk
I'll be exhausted so I'll probably sleep
And we'll get a Chinese and watch TV

This song gives me such a warm and nostalgic feeling, not really sure why. It perfectly captures the feeling of being in a relationship where every moment spent together is special, even if it's just getting some Chinese and watching TV. Lily has such an expressive way with her lyrics, as she is able to paint such vivid pictures with her words.

I think it's about her mother. When she says 'You'll make me beans on toast and we'll watch T.V.'. Beans on Toast is a big Irish and English tradition and it's very common for the mum to make Beans on Toast when the kids are visiting home or are feeling down.

The whole lyrics seem to fit better with it being about her mum rather than a relationship. Anyways just my take :)

The song does say 'a chinese'. It's common in the UK to say 'a chinese', meaning chinese food. We'd say let's get a pizza, or a curry or a chinese. It's just what we say when we get take out food.

I love this song. Personally, I think it's about an idea relationship she has in her head. Possibly a real one. It's really warm and homely feeling, aspiring to normal things that people want in a relationship. Comfort and companionship. I love how British the song is too, the referances are just very typical, such as taking the dog for a walk, having beans on toast and a nice cup of tea, right down to getting a chinese on a night and watching some tv while curled up with your partner.

I find it pretty damn annoying that Americans are so ignorant about British culture, language etc. when we get theirs rammed down our throats everytime we turn on the TV.
I don't mean to offend anyone btw :)!
Beans on Toast isn't just something your mum makes, it's something that is pretty much a British institution ;)

This song is be-a-utiful, so simple yet sums up perfectly a long distance relationship.

"I see you from the sky" - she's flying home
"You wipe the tears from my eye and you say that all it takes is a phone call" - she hasn't had enough time to talk to him and she feels bad about it.

This is just like my relationship, aha :)

Heh, I agree about the ignorance thing, especially after having lived here for half a year now...people think London IS the UK! Not trying to offend anyone but it does get a little frustrating, just given that we know so much about the US, it'd be nice if Americans knew more about the UK...

Danon8, I love the mother theory, it's such a good one! This is certainly how I feel about my mum anyway :)

I think it's HILARIOUS that you Brits are concerned about American ignorance!! I'm Canadian, and honest to god can count on one hand the amount of American's I have met in my travels that know something about their neighboring country. I'm actually embarrassed for them. Now I know this is a generalization. But it is an educated opinion. Ignorant of your lingo? Try "Oh your from Canada?.. Did you hear that we have a black president now?"... true story.

Hahaha, oh dear! I quite often get asked "Are you from Europe?" Yeah, Europe's a pretty big place, in case you didn't know... Not everyone's like that though, I've met lots of Americans who are much more educated about the rest of the world than I am. But they're certainly in the minority...

I immediately thought about my mom when I heard this song. I've lived away from home before, but I recently moved overseas and I really miss her. It will be so nice when I fly home and get to hang out with her again.

That's my personal take, but the lyrics can definitely apply to romantic relationships, too.
Really it's just about loving someone and needing them around, and missing the comfort they give you.

:]

the correct lyric IS "a chinese", it's quite common for typo's to be made even on the official album sleeves.

the song is about her mother, she's talked about it in many interviews :)

my favourite line is

"I know it doesn't seem so fair, but I'll send you a postcard when I get there"

I'm not quite sure if by "not fair" that she means it's unfair that she gets to travel the world and go to all these crazy places that her mother does not get to go to, or if she means that it's unfair for her mother when she (Lily) is away from her so much. I hated this song at first but it's finally grown on me and it's really cute!

To me, this song is about her mother. It talks about how one can just come home to their mother and enjoy the time together; how the simple things like taking the dog for a walk and beans on toast are so meaningful from a mum.

This song sure reminds me of my mother :)

It's about her mother. Saw her in concert last night, and her mother was in the audience, and she said it was dedicated to her. Plus, it just makes a lot more sense for it to be about someone she's not in a relationship with.

"Get Chinese" is slang for getting stoned. She just wants to be relaxed, get high, watch tv with the person she loves, but her hectic touring schedule prevents her from leading that normal life.

Just to make everyone clear on the British culture front of the song...
It says 'A Chinese' because that's what we say here when we get a take away - 'a Chinese' or 'An Indian' or whatever you're getting.
And Beans on Toast necessarily a mum thing, really, it's just quickish food that's yummy and if you got back like fairly late at night it's what you eat because it's easy.
I think it would be about her mum or a relationship - just someone she's close to and wants to relax with, really.

Very quirky! To me its the opposite of what she's saying...Drags herself round working and all thats on offer at the end is some dumb-ass making beans on toast, a nice cup of tea, ordering Chinese in for dinner and watching TV. Tomorrow, same routine except i'm not coming home so its dog for a walk & a chat in the afternoon but this relationship is sooo boring i'm off to bed - be a nice love & make the beans on toast / tea / book dinner & switch tele on...Next weekend (2nd verse)...same routine...thats all that happens in this relationship...poor love... When I get home - back to being me - (cause i'm not being me with this boring routine) - I'll send you a postcard...not fair on you but neither is what you contribute....If you think I'm content with that as a life routine - see you...Jimmy...

I think it could very well be her mom. Otherwise I keep wondering why she would leave if she doesn't have to. Maybe she's going away to college or something.
