while much later in the song "There was the night we" should instead be "That was the night we"
However as far as I can tell everything else is pretty spot-on!
At the beginning he is talking about messing up in a relationship (I @#$%^ed up)
The rest of the song is about how he knows he is not perfect, but he can make it up to her because they love each other! Plain and simple!

I think this song is trying to say a lot of things. He is trying to convince a girl that even though he has a lot of imperfections and he makes mistakes, that if she puts up with him she will realize that things will overall be better if they stay together. He is also trying to say that he will not be controlling and overbearing, he will just love her and that is all that really counts.
