Lyrics for (Coffee's For Closers) as interpreted by blinxbcr

(Coffee's For Closers) Lyrics
I can't explain a thing
I want everything
To change and stay the same on top
doesn't care about anyone or anything
now come together, come apart
only get lonely when you read the charts
Oh baby, when they made me
They broke the mold
Girls used to follow me around
When I got cold

Fly your cameras in the air
and wave 'em like you just don't care

I will never believe in anything again
I will never believe in anything again
Oh change will come
Oh change will come
I will never believe in anything again

We never believe again
kickdrum beating in my chest again
oh we will never believe again
preach electric to a microphone stand

I'm a mascot for what you've become
and I love the mayhem more than the love
and oh baby, one day maybe
We broke the mold
Girls used to follow me around
When I got cold

Fly your cameras in the air
and wave 'em like you just don't care

I will never believe in anything again
I will never believe in anything again
Oh change will come
Oh change will come
I will never believe in anything again

We will never believe again
kickdrum beating in my chest again
oh we will never believe again
preach electric to a microphone stand

Fly your cameras in the air
and wave 'em 'cause I just don't care
Fly your cameras in the air
and wave 'em 'cause I just don't care

I will never believe in anything again
I will never believe in anything again
Oh change will come
Oh change will come
I will never believe in anything again
I will never believe in anything again
I will never believe in anything again
Oh change will come
Oh change will come
I will never believe in anything again

We will never believe again
kickdrum beating in my chest again
oh we will never believe again
preach electric to a microphone stand

only get LONELY when you read the charts

*Oh baby, when they made me it broke the mold

The song appears to be, like others off the album perhaps, about fame and the effects of it.
But then the line: "I'm a mascot for what you've become and I love the mayhem more than the love",
makes it sound more like someone who has changed as a result of fame.
Not sure though. :) Good song anyway. :)

Maybe this is talking about the election?

"I will never believe in anything again
I will never believe in anything again
Oh change will come
Oh change will come.."

Songs about elections and such don't have to be dark, do they?
plus if you listen at the end of the song, it sounds like something Beethoven wrote or a famous composer but they put it to electric guitar.

"To change and stay the same on top
doesn't care about anyone or anything
now come together, come apart
only get lonely when you read the charts
Oh baby, when they made me
They broke the mold.."

That could be about how he was younger (Obama) and then he changed. I may be wrong, here is another line that might suggest something as well.

"preach electric to a microphone stand.."

Or it could be about coming to fame, although look out for other songs on this cd to be about politics because that's why the band chose to push the cd back because it has songs on the cd that are very political. There are also some songs on there about relationships, here's the article I got it from:

this song is soooo good. i'm trying to figure out why he says "i will never believe in anything again".

"I'm a mascot for what you've become
and I love the mayhem more than the love" might mean something.. oh well, amazing song.

i dunno, i get a very triumphant, rebellious feeling when i hear the words, "i will never believe in anything agian." it doesn't sound like he's giving up, more like he's happy about it. but then, that's just me. (it brings to mind "i'm not okay (i promise)")

it's political, and it is most *definitely* about obama...

they said that this album is one of the most political albums of 2008.

When he's writing this, I think he was putting himself in the place of Obama (dealing with the whole fame issue)

As far as the ending, I think Patrick was just showing off his amazing composing skills for a lead-in to "the best song they've ever written" according to them, "What A Catch, Donnie".

oh yeah... and nothing on this CD is about girls. Even when it sounds like they are, they aren't. They said that... :) so keep that in mind while you're trying to decipher this album's meaning.

The title is a reference to the movie/play Glengarry Glen Ross.

According to Rolling Stone's interview with Patrick Stump, the "I will never believe in anything again" is relating to when Bush won presidency. It's NOT most *definitely* to do with Obama.

Fuckwits.

actually i think it has to do with both Bush and Obama
mainly with Bush though
the only Obama reference I see is the part where he says
change will come

According to Pete it's about Bush's re-election in... whenever he was re-elected. (not familiar with US politics :p)

Ughh, good old liberal Hollywood.
Yeah I can understand how this is about Bush and Obama and all that.
The only line I don't get is:
"Oh baby, when they made me
They broke the mold
Girls used to follow me around
When I got cold"
Who is that referring to?

If they say it's about presidential stuff then I suppose it is? But to me it definitely sounds as a "coming to fame" situation where he no longer bothers about what the media says about him, and he's reached the point where no one would ever really love him but rather his status of celebrity , I get that from two or three other songs off the album too, so hence my doubt about elections and Bush involved here.

I interpret this as another political song. Bush refrences in lines: "I can't explain a thing,
I want everything,
To change and stay the same on top,
doesn't care about anyone or anything". I mean Bush is known for his vocabulary stumblings and his below-par attempts at public speaking thus 'he can't explain a thing'. He doesn't seem to care about anyone/anything either (i.e war in Iraq), which also follows the idea that 'he wants everything' because he did it to control the oil and 'spread the ideals of democracy' infazing his want for change to his 'percieved good ideas' but to remain at the top, the 'leader of the free world'.

"I'm a mascot for what you've become"; I see as two ways, one being Fall Out Boy being accused/blamed for teenagers becoming 'emo' and all those trends they've become associated with. And also I see it as the President being the figurehead for all Americans because he's made the decisions which have seen Americans as the 'greedy, unknowledgeable, uninspired' people; because the Government is suposed to be a representation of the people; so reflections go back.

Also; "Girls used to follow me around" could be the status symbol in which Americans look up to their President and can you remember before the invasion of Iraq, Britney Spears was interveiwed and stated she 'thought everyone should back the president in whatever decision he made'? Showing blatent ignorance in idealising Bush regardless of anything else.

"I will never believe in anything again" is the fact this experience has caused him never to simply take nothing at face value anymore. He won't simply believe because he thinks its the 'right' thing, he'll take a closer look before doing that because of what he's learnt over these long 8 years. i.e weapons of mass destruction anyone??

"Oh change will come", is just the difference that 'has' to come with the new leadership. But obviously due to the Obama 08 campaign being focused around the theme of 'Change' you can't help but notice this little point that he thinks Obama will be the change that will come to America.

I understand everyone will have their own opinions and interpretations, so if you don't agree, thats fine. This is just what I'm feeling.

:)
